Rangpur is one of the major cities in Bangladesh and Rangpur Division. Rangpur was declared a district headquarters on December 16, 1769, and established as a municipality in 1869, making it one of the oldest municipalities in Bangladesh.
It is said that the present name Rangpur came from the former 'Rongpur'. History has it that English colonial rulers in this region started cultivating Indigo. Due to the fertile soil in this region, Indigo cultivation was very much profitable. The locals knew that Indigo by the name of Rongo. So thus, this Region was named Rongopur.And from that, the name of today's Rangpur has originated.
The total population of Rangpur city corporation is 796,556. Among them, 398,282 are male and 398,274 are female. The literacy rate in Rangpur is 65%.

রংপুর জেলা বাংলাদেশের উত্তর-পশ্চিমাঞ্চলের রংপুর বিভাগের একটি প্রশাসনিক অঞ্চল ও বিভাগীয় শহর।রংপুর জেলাকে বৃহত্তর বঙ্গপ্লাবন ভূমির অংশ মনে করা হয়। এ জেলার ভূগঠন অতীতে উত্তরাঞ্চল প্রবহমান কয়েকটি নদীর গতিপথ পরিবর্তন এবং ভূকম্পনজনিত ভুমি উত্তোলনের সাথে জড়িত। তিস্তা নদীর আদি গতিপথ পরিবর্তন ছিল রংপুর জেলার ভূমি গঠনের ক্ষেত্রে অতি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। তিস্তা নদী ১৭৮৭ সালের পূর্বে গঙ্গানদীর একটি উপনদী ছিল।
Information about Rangpur????
Rangpur was conquered in by the army of Raja Man Singh, a commander of the Mughal emperor, Akbar, in 1575, but it was only until 1686 that it was fully integrated into the Mughal Empire[citation needed]. Place names such as Mughalbasa ('Mughal locality') and Mughalhat ('Mughal market') bear testimony to the Mughal association and past of Rangpur and its hinterland.

Vinno Jogot is a famous non-natural Place in Bangladesh. It is in Rangpur district which about 100 acresacres. Vinno Jogot beautify by many rides. This place take you a daydream world. “Bhinna Jagat” is a unique tourist destination built in a different way. A different world tourist center in educational tours is equipped to different degrees for students and fun seekers. Bangladesh's first planetarium, robot skin zone, space journey, folk art museum set up in a different world.
The Seven Wonders of the World are modeled after the Taj Mahal, the Pyramids, the Zoo, the Great Wall of China, the Moscow Clock, the Sundarbans and the Eiffel Tower. So we say that the world is seen in a different world now.

নামকরণের ক্ষেত্রে লোকমুখে প্রচলিত আছে যে পূর্বের ‘রঙ্গপুর’ থেকেই কালক্রমে এই নামটি এসেছে। ইতিহাস থেকে জানা যায় যে উপমহাদেশে ইংরেজরা নীলের চাষ শুরু করে। এই অঞ্চলে মাটি উর্বর হবার কারণে এখানে প্রচুর নীলের চাষ হত। সেই নীলকে স্থানীয় লোকজন রঙ্গ নামেই জানত। কালের বিবর্তনে সেই রঙ্গ থেকে রঙ্গপুর এবং তা থেকেই আজকের রংপুর। অপর একটি প্রচলিত ধারণা থেকে জানা যায় যে রংপুর জেলার পূর্বনাম রঙ্গপুর। প্রাগ জ্যোতিস্বর নরের পুত্র ভগদত্তের রঙ্গমহল এর নামকরণ থেকে এই রঙ্গপুর নামটি আসে। রংপুর জেলার অপর নাম জঙ্গপুর । ম্যালেরিয়া রোগের প্রাদুর্ভাব থাকায় কেউ কেউ এই জেলাকে যমপুর বলেও ডাকত। তবে রংপুর জেলা সুদূর অতীত থেকে আন্দোলন প্রতিরোধের মূল ঘাঁটি ছিল। তাই জঙ্গপুর নামকেই রংপুরের আদি নাম হিসেবে ধরা হয়। জঙ্গ অর্থ যুদ্ধ, পুর অর্থ নগর বা শহর। গ্রাম থেকে আগত মানুষ প্রায়ই ইংরেজদের অত্যাচারে নিহত হত বা ম্যালেরিয়ায় মারা যেত। তাই সাধারণ মানুষ শহরে আসতে ভয় পেত। সুদূর অতীতে রংপুর জেলা যে রণভূমি ছিল তা সন্দেহাতীত ভাবেই বলা যায়। ত্রিশের দশকের শেষ ভাগে এ জেলায় কৃষক আন্দোলন যে ভাবে বিকাশ লাভ করে ছিল তার কারণে রংপুরকে লাল রংপুর হিসেবে আখ্যায়িত করা হয়েছিল।
রংপুর অঞ্চলকে তামাকের জন্য বিখ্যাত বলা হয়। এখানে উৎপাদিত তামাক দিয়ে সারা দেশের চাহিদা মেটানো হয়। রংপুরে প্রচুর পরিমাণ ধান-পাট-আলু ও হাড়িভাঙ্গা আম উৎপাদিত হয়। যা স্থানীয় বাজার তথা সারাদেশের বাজারে সমান হারে সমাদৃত। তাছাড়াও সম্মিলিত খামার গড়ে উঠছে যা অর্থনীতিতে ব্যাপক হারে প্রভাব ফেলছে। এছাড়া ৭০০ বছরের ঐতিহ্যের ধারক বাহক বর্তমানে জিআই পণ্য শতরঞ্চি এর রংপুর মুঘল আমল থেকে বিখ্যাত।

চিকলি ওয়াটার পার্ক এর মূল আকর্ষন এই ঝর্ণা। দিনের চেয়ে রাতে এই ঝর্ণা দেখতে বেশি ভালো লাগে। না না রংগের আলো ঝর্ণার সৌন্দর্যকে কয়েক গুণ বৃদ্ধি করে। খুব অল্প সময়েই দর্শনার্থীদের মন কেড়ে নিয়েছে চিকলি ওয়াটার পার্ক এর এই ঝর্ণা।
পার্ক এর ভেতর বেশ কয়েকটি ক্যানেল রয়েছে। ক্যানেল এর স্বচ্ছ পানিতে রয়েছে রঙিন মাছ। স্বচ্ছ পানিতে রঙ্গিন মাছ গুলো দেখতে বেশ লাগে।
স্পীড বোট। স্পীড বোট এ উঠতে কার না ভালো লাগে। সব বয়সের মানুষই এই স্পীড বোট এ উঠতে পারে।
রঙিন পানির ফোয়ারা। এখানে বিভিন্ন রঙের লাইট সেট করে দেয়া আছে। লাইট এর রঙ কিছুক্ষণ পর পর পরিবর্তন হতে থাকে যার ফলে পানিও বিভিন্ন রঙের দেখা যায়।
ছোট ছোট পাতাবাহার এর গাছ। গাছের সামনে বিভিন্ন রঙের লাইট। রাতে পাতার সঠিক রঙ দেখতে পাওয়া মুশকিল। তবে দেখতে মন্দ লাগে না।
নাগোরদোলা। এখানএ এই নাগোরদোলা টি হাতে চালিত নয় এটি ইলেক্ট্রিক। নাগোরদোলায় লাইটিং করার জন্য দেখতে ভালোই লাগে।
দর্শনার্থীদের বসে আড্ডা দেয়ার জন্য বিভিন্ন জায়গায় বিভিন্ন রকম চেয়ার এর ব্যাবস্থা আছে।
স্বচ্ছ পানির যে ক্যানেলগুলো রয়েছে ক্যানেল গুলোর ওপর এরকম ছোট ছোট পুল রয়েছে।
পার্কের ভেতরে রেস্টুরেন্ট রয়েছে। দর্শনার্থীরা চাইলে রেস্টুরেন্টের ভেতরে কিংবা রেস্টুরেন্ট এ অর্ডার দিয়ে এসে বাইরের যে কোনো চেয়ারে বসে খাওয়া-দাওয়া করতে পারবে।
মাটি কেটে কিছু জায়গা নিচু করা হয়েছে। নিচেও লাইটিং ও গাছপালা দিয়ে সাজানো হয়েছে। বসার জন্যও জায়গা রয়েছে। উপর থেকে নিচে এই সিঁড়ি দিয়ে নামতে হয়।
চারদিকে আলোর ঝলকানি ও প্রচুর গাছপালা দিয়ে ঘেরা চিকলি ওয়াটার পার্ক। যেমন সুন্দর তেমনি পরিবেশবান্ধব। ছবির চেয়েও বাস্তবে বেশি সুন্দর।

Rangpur is one of the major cities in Bangladesh and Rangpur Division. Rangpur was declared a district headquarters on December 16, 1769, and established as a municipality in 1869, making it one of the oldest municipalities in Bangladesh. The municipal office building was erected in 1892 under the precedence Raja Janaki Ballav, Senior Chairman of the municipality. চিকলি বিল ও পার্ক:
চিকলি বিল রংপুরের বিনোদন কেন্দ্রগুলোর মধ্যে অন্যতম একটি পার্ক। রংপুর বিভাগীয় শহরের উত্তর পাশে দৃষ্টি নন্দন একটি বিনোদন স্পট। শহরের হনুমান তলা এলাকার শত বছরের প্রাচীন চিকলী বিল। শীতকালে অতিথি পাখির আগমনে মুখরিত থাকে এই জলাধার।
বিলে ঘোরার জন্য আছে স্পীড বোট। গত কয়েক বছরে ভ্রমণ পিপাসুদের আকর্ষণ কেড়েছে জায়গাটি। দুরদুরান্ত থেকে দল বেঁধে বনভোজন করতে আসেন অনেকেই। চিকলি ওয়াটার পার্ক এর মূল আকর্ষণ হলো কৃত্রিম ঝরনা। দিনের চেয়ে রাতে এই ঝরনা দেখতে বেশি ভালো লাগে। নানা রঙের আলোর ঝলকানিতে চোখ ভরে যায়।
টিকেট মূল্যঃ বর্তমানে চিকলির বিল দু’ভাগে বিভক্ত। বিলের দক্ষিণে গড়ে উঠেছে ওয়াটার পার্ক। সেখানে প্রবেশ মূল্য ২০ টাকা। সেখানে আরও আছে বিভিন্ন ওয়াটার রাইড। আর বিলের উত্তর পাশ যার নাম চিকলি ওয়াটার গার্ডেন। যার প্রবেশ মূল্য ৫০ টাকা।
কীভাবে যাবেনঃ দেশের যে কোনো প্রান্ত থেরেক রংপুর এসে সহজেই যেতে পারবেন চিকলির বিলে। রংপুর শহরের এক প্রকার কেন্দ্রেই যার অবস্থান।
চিকলির বিল আসার পথ মূলত দুটি- একটি সাগরপাড়ার দিয়ে আরেকটি শহরের পুলিশ লাইনের সামন দিয়ে হনুমানতলা বাজার পার হয়ে একটু সামনেই হাতের বামেই বিলে প্রবেশের পথ।
চিকলির বিল যাওয়ার কথা বললে সহজেই রিকশা কিংবা অটো পেয়ে যাবেন। সেখানে পর্যাপ্ত পার্কিংয়ের জায়গা থাকায় প্রাইভেট গাড়ি নিয়েও সহজেই ঘুরে আসতে পারেন বিখ্যাত চিকলির বিল থেকে।

তিস্তা ব্যারেজ:
তিস্তা ব্যারেজ বা তিস্তা সেচ প্রকল্প বাংলাদেশের সবচেয়ে বৃহত্তম সেচ প্রকল্প। তিস্তা নদীর উপর নির্মিত তিস্তা ব্যারেজের একপাশে আছে লালমনিরহাট জেলার হাতীবান্ধা উপজেলাধীন গড্ডিমারী ইউনিয়নের দোয়ানী গ্রাম এবং অন্য পাশে আছে নীলফামারী জেলার ডিমলা উপজেলাধীন খালিসা চাপানী ইউনিয়নের ডালিয়া নামক স্থান। রংপুর, দিনাজপুর, নিলফামারী ও বগুড়া জেলার অনাবাদী জমিতে সেচ সুবিধা প্রদানের জন্য ১৯৩৭ খ্রিষ্টাব্দে তৎকালীন সরকার তিস্তা ব্যারেজ তৈরীর পরিকল্পনা গ্রহণ করে। পরবর্তীতে ১৯৭৯ সালে ৬১৫ মিটার দৈর্ঘ্যের ৪৪ রেডিয়াল গেট বিশিষ্ট ব্যারেজের নির্মাণ কাজ শুরু হয়, যা ১৯৯০ সালে শেষ হয়।
তিস্তা ব্যারেজের নদীর দুই পাশে গড়ে তোলা হয়েছে সবুজ বেষ্টনি। এছাড়াও ব্যারেজ এলাকায় রয়েছে কয়েকটি পিকনিক স্পট। ব্যারেজের কালো পিচের রাস্তা ধরে ছুটে চলা কিংবা চারপাশের পরিবেশের মনভোলানো সৌন্দর্য্য এখানে আগত দর্শনার্থীদের এক অলৌকিক মায়ায় কাছে টানে।
কিভাবে যাবেনঃ রাজধানী ঢাকা কিংবা অন্য শহর থেকে তিস্তা ব্যারেজ যেতে চাইলে আপনার সুবিধা মত নীলফামারী অথবা লালমনিরহাট জেলায় চলে যান। নীলফামারী থেকে তিস্তা পাড়ে যাওয়ার জন্য রিক্সা, স্কুটার এবং মোটরসাইকেল ভাড়ায় পাবেন।
আর ঢাকা থেকে লালমনিরহাট যাওয়ার জন্য বাস অথবা ট্রেনকে বেছে নিতে পারেন। কমলাপুর রেলওয়ে ষ্টেশন থেকে শুক্রবার ছাড়া বাকি ৬ দিন রাত ০৯ঃ৪৫ মিনিটে লালমনি এক্সপ্রেস ট্রেন যাত্রা করে। আসনভেদে ট্রেনের টিকেটের মূল্য পরবে ৫০৫ থেকে ১৭৮১ টাকা। এছাড়া গাবতলী এবং কল্যাণপুর থেকে নাবিল পরিবহন, এস আর ট্রাভেলস, মানিক এক্সপ্রেস, বরকত ট্রাভেলস, হানিফ, শাহ্ আলি পরিবহনের বাস লালমনিরহাটের উদ্দেশ্যে ছেড়ে যায়। এসি/নন-এসি বাসের জনপ্রতি ভাড়া লাগবে ৭৫০-১২৫০ টাকা। লালমনিরহাট সদর হতে সড়কপথে তিস্তা ব্যারেজ যাওয়ার জন্য বিভিন্ন ধরনের যানবাহন রয়েছে।

Rongpur, is one of the major cities in Bangladesh and Rangpur Division. Now Rangpur City Corporation is the 2nd largest city corporation in Bangladesh. it's about 205 square kilometres. Rangpur is famous for Shataranji, Haribhanga (mango), Rangpur (fruit) and tobacco. Rangpur is called Baher Desh.
