El Ensanche La Fe, anteriormente conocido como los Potreros ubicada en el kilómetro 3 ½ de la Autopista Duarte, es un sector destacado ubicado en el centro del Distrito Nacional, Santo Domingo, República Dominicana. Su nombre proviene de la Inmobiliaria La Fe, antigua propietaria de los terrenos, que a su vez toma su nombre del antiguo ingenio azucarero La Fe, que operó en esa misma localidad unas décadas antes.
Es uno de los sectores más importantes del Distrito Nacional, limitado al norte con la Avenida Pedro Livio Cedeño, avecinando con el Barrio de Cristo Rey; al sur con la Avenida San Martín, avecinando con el Ensanche Kennedy; al oeste con la avenida López de Vega, avecinando con el sector de Arroyo Hondo4; y al este con la Avenida Máximo Gómez, avecinando con el sector de Villa Juana
Fundado en el año 1942, por orden del dictador Rafael Leónidas Trujillo Molina, con el fin de construir un acueducto y el antiguo hipódromo Perla Antillana, fue inaugurado en 1941 en el lugar donde hoy se ubica la Plaza de la Salud. Además de dicho complejo de 5 centros hospitalarios, en el área se encuentran el Hospital Salvador B. Gautier, el Liceo La Fe, el Estadio Quisqueya, la estación televisiva Color Visión y el Coliseo Carlos -Teo- Cruz

- Jarabacoa Flower Festival -
Once a year all of Jarabacoa comes out to for a big party: and it’s the Jarabacoa Flower Festival. It originated with the Japanese immigrants. But Jarabacoa has always been well known for its flowers. Due to its mild climate Jarabacoa became on of the central points on the island for growing flowers that aren’t as common in other places on the island.
Orchids for example are a flower that is not unique to Jarabacoa, but pretty common here, especially in the wild. This fact, plus the Japanese immigration in the 50s that encouraged the growing and exporting of flowers, turned Jarabacoa into the a pivotal point for anything that grows with more colors than just green. The event lasts for 4 days, usually towards the end of June. It always sets up somewhere around the Jarabacoa avenue.
So what can you do here? Well, besides buying flowers at special offers, you can indulge in just enjoying a stroll through what we'll call a tiny state fair. A month earlier they even elect a Queen of the Festival who then represent the town in other event throughout the island. For the most part the festival is visited by Dominicans, but you will also see the odd foreigner. They're easy to spot, especially if they're Americans: they're pretty much the only ones wearing shorts. True, it's a stereotype, but the evidence ain't helping the argument.
You can eat, buy artisanal decorations, jewelry, various exhibitions, enjoy free coffee and free concerts. During the day there are presentations by local artists and in the evening more nationally known artist show up for a few sets of their more popular songs. Dancing is optional.
There is a cover charge of 10 pesos per day, which is about 20 cents. Saturdays has the flower parade, an event that also features — besides floats, bands and cheerleaders — Jarabacoa's second indulgence: horses. People come from all over the island joining in the cabalgada: a cavalcade, or procession of horsemen, along the Jarabacoa avenue. You'll get to see several million dollars worth of paso fino horses riding down the street. That in itself is quite the impressive show. I mean, most of us can imagine a car worth being a million bucks, but a horse?
Now granted, by most standards the Jarabacoa flower fair is kind of small. Then again, Jarabacoa is still a village aspiring to become a town. It has no industry, but does rely almost entirely on agriculture, exporting vegetables, coffee and, well, flowers. The festival has only been going on for about 6 years, but it has been growing consistently.
So if you're in town and got an afternoon to to spare, swing by.

About Santo Domingo: Quisqueya Stadium Juan Marichal is a baseball stadium in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. It is often used as a multi-use stadium. Football club Atlético Pantoja used the venue for their inaugural Caribbean football championship match. The Quisqueya holds about 14,469 people after its renovation. The Dominican League of Baseball Authority is in charge of its management. It is the only stadium in the Caribbean region to host two different baseball teams, Tigres del Licey (Licey Tigers) and Leones del Escogido (Chosen One Lions). Its field dimensions are 335 feet at the foul poles, 383 feet at the power alleys, and 411 feet at center field. It was built in 1955 as Estadio Trujillo, during the Rafael Leonidas Trujillo Molina dictatorship, taking the Bobby Maduro Miami Stadium as the design base. The most UNTOUCHED beaches in the Dominican Republic
If you’re familiar with the Dominican Republic, you’re likely familiar with Punta Cana, or perhaps even Puerto Plata. But have you ever heard of Las Galeras? Chances are slim. However, we’re here to tell you that if you haven’t heard of it, it’s time to look into it. This tiny fishing village on the far tip of the Samana peninsula is a gem waiting to be discovered. While lodging is limited, some of the beach beaches on the island can be found surrounding this town. If you’re thinking about heading to this area, here’s our guide to everything you need to know.
Las Galeras is about an hour and a half off the main highway when you first turn onto the peninsula. Once you’re on Highway 5, you literally take it to the end. Much of the road is in incredible condition, with a few trickier parts along the way (think massive potholes or dirt roads.
Las Galeras is outside the main tourist zones, so you won’t find any 5 star restaurants of walmarts out here. You’ll find a few small, local cafes and pizza restaurants and a couple of shops. Street vendors sell fresh fish or fried foods and the small shops sell clothing, trinkets and other “touristy” goods.
Playa Rincon, Playa Madama and Playa Fronton are the three beaches most boats will take you on for a day tour. We did a private tour for about $65 per person, which was quite pricey. We booked through the hotel, though, we could have wandered down to any of the boats in town to do the same trip for less. However, they picked us up right outside the hotel and it was super convenient.
We loved our weekend getaway to Las Galeras. It feels like a completely different vibe from the rest of the Dominican Republic and offers a glimpse of what it was like to be on the island 20-30 years ago. Next time we return, we’ll 100% we checking out some of the boutique properties and spending the majority of the time on the beautiful Playa Rincon.
