Places to see in ( Prescot - UK )

Prescot is a town and civil parish within the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley in Merseyside, England. Historically part of Lancashire, it lies about eight miles to the east of Liverpool city centre. At the 2001 Census, the civil parish population was 11,184 (5,265 males, 5,919 females). The population of the larger Prescot East and West wards at the 2011 census totalled 14,139. Prescot marks the beginning of the A58 road which runs through to Wetherby, West Yorkshire. The town is served by Prescot railway station and Eccleston Park railway station.

Prescot's name is believed to be derived from the Anglo-Saxon prēost priest + cot cot, meaning a cottage or small house owned or inhabited by a priest, a priest-cottage. (ME prest, preste, priest, OE prēost, LL presbyter, Gk πρεσβύτερος presbýteros elder, priest). From the mid-1590s to 1609, Prescot was home to the Prescot Playhouse, a purpose-built Shakespearean theatre, probably located on Eccleston Street.

During the 18th and 19th centuries it was at the centre of the watch and clock making industry. This ended with the failure of the Lancashire Watch Company in 1910. In later years the BICC company was the primary industrial employer in the town. BICC ceased operations in Prescot in the early 1990s before the site was demolished and later cleared. The land remained desolate until the year 2000 when it was then regenerated into what is now known as Cable's Retail Park, the name of which is a reference to the BICC and the history of the site on which it was built.

Prescot Museum houses a permanent exhibition about the history of clock- and watch-making in the town, and several temporary exhibitions per year. The Georgian building is now also home to Knowsley Council's Arts and Events Service.

On the edge of the town is the famous estate of Lord Derby, which includes Knowsley Safari Park. In recent years, a number of cultural and arts events have been established in the town, including the annual 10-day Prescot Festival of Music and the Arts and an annual Elizabethan Fayre.

The Shakespeare North Trust promotes William Shakespeare's historic connection with the town, a subject being researched at Liverpool's John Moores University. Inspired by the historic Prescot Playhouse, the Trust plans to build the Shakespeare North complex in Prescot, including a Shakespearean playhouse and an educational centre. In April 2016, Knowsley Council granted planning permission for the new playhouse.

10 Most Miserable Towns in the UK

What are the most miserable towns in the United Kingdom? Many of the towns in the United Kingdom are not doing too badly in terms of basic amenities. The quality of life in those towns is higher even than in places recognized as cities in other countries. Still, it can’t be said that all those towns are having it equally. Assessing the standard of living and quality of life in the UK as a whole, we can describe certain towns in the United Kingdom as miserable. Granted, those towns are not inherently terrible. Yet, the situation there is not acceptable in the light of what we see in other villages, towns, and cities, in the UK. In this video, we shall be discussing the 10 most miserable towns in the UK.
10. Cumbernauld, Scotland
We will start our discussion with a town in Scotland. To give you a hint; this is the first of the three Scottish towns on this list of the 10 most miserable towns in the UK. We are talking about Cumbernauld, a large town in North Lanarkshire with an area of 8.3 square miles or 21.5 square kilometers. Under normal circumstances, it should be a city because of its city-like huge population of 51,000.
It has not shed that horrible description as “Scotland’s most dismal town.” Truly speaking, this town is lacking in anything of the good things you would find in Glasgow or Edinburgh. The center of Cumbernauld has been described as the “Kabul of the North.” This says it all. Whatever you know about Kabul has its miniature in this miserable town.
9. Grimsby, England
The first of the 5 cities in England on this list is Grimsby. Maybe we should stop calling it Great Grimsby. If it were great indeed, this port town and the North East Lincolnshire administrative center on the south bank of the Humber Estuary would have all amenities that would make it rank among the best. But the comments from its residents and one-time visitors indicated that life is miserable in this place that has been voted several times as one of the worst places to live in England.
Therefore, the town of around 100,000 residents is one of the most miserable towns in the UK. Its entire area of 88 square miles (or 230 square kilometers) has been ranked the 18th worst place to live a while ago.
8. Airdrie, Scotland
Back in Scotland; we are now examining Airdrie, a town in North Lanarkshire. It also is one of the most miserable towns in the UK. The town on a plateau with an elevation of 400 feet or 130 meters above sea level is about 12 miles (or 19 kilometers) east of Glasgow city center. During its industrial heyday in the 19th century, coal mining and cotton milling were the major industries, no one could then think of this former industrial town as miserable.
However, the exit of those industries has made life there miserable to extent of being branded the most dismal town in the UK. The PR manager for the town admits it deserves its grim reputation as the worst in Scotland. The town is boring and the buildings are ugly.

Liverpool !! Beautiful City In England ! UK Trip 2022 !

#Liverpool #UnitedKingdom #UKTrip2022

Liverpool is a maritime city in northwest England, where the River Mersey meets the Irish Sea. A key trade and migration port from the 18th to the early 20th centuries, it's also, famously, the hometown of The Beatles.
Liverpool is built on low hills, with the 70 meter high Everton Hill being the highest. The Liverpool urban area extends to Bootle and Crosby in the Sefton area to the north, and to the Huyton and Prescot quarters in the Knowsley area to the east. Liverpool faces Wallasey and Birkenhead across the River Mersey to the West. Liverpool city center is located approximately 8 kilometers from Liverpool Bay and the Irish Sea.

Liverpool is administered by Liverpool City Council, one of 5 Councils within the Merseyside Metropolitan Area. Liverpool is one of the main cities in England and has the `fifth largest population' with a population of 441,477 in 2002, and for Merseyside conurbation, the population reached 1,362,026

Liverpool residents are called Liverpudlians and nicknamed Scousers, which refers to 'scouse', a steamed dish. Scouse is now more associated with the Liverpool accent.

Guys, today I'm #traveling to #liverpool, so from Manchester I took the train to Liverpool to see the beautiful city of Liverpool, and visited The Beatles Story as well as #anfield the stadium of #liverpoolfc.

Places to see in ( Market Drayton - UK )

Places to see in ( Market Drayton - UK )

Market Drayton is a market town in north Shropshire, England, close to the Welsh and Staffordshire border. It is on the River Tern, between Shrewsbury and Stoke-on-Trent, and was formerly known as Drayton in Hales and earlier simply as Drayton.

Market Drayton is on the Shropshire Union Canal and on Regional Cycle Route 75. The A53 road by-passes the town. The counties of Staffordshire and Cheshire are both close by. In 1245 King Henry III granted a charter for a weekly Wednesday market, giving the town its current name. The market is still held every Wednesday.

Ancient local sites include Audley's Cross, Blore Heath and several Neolithic standing stones. The Devil's Ring and Finger is a notable site 3 miles (5 km) from the town at Mucklestone. These are across the county boundary in neighbouring Staffordshire. The Old Grammar School, in St. Mary's Hall, directly to the east of the church, was founded in 1555 by Rowland Hill, the first Protestant Mayor of London. Former pupils include Robert Clive, and a school desk with the initials RC may still be seen in the town.

The great fire of Drayton destroyed almost 70% of the town in 1651. It was started at a bakery, and quickly spread through the timber buildings. The buttercross in the centre of the town still has a bell at the top for people to ring if there was ever another fire.

Other notable landmarks in the area include: Pell Wall Hall, Adderley Hall, Buntingsdale Hall, Salisbury Hill, Tyrley Locks on the Shropshire Union Canal and the Thomas Telford designed aqueduct. Fordhall Farm has 140 acres (0.57 km2) of community-owned organic farmland located off the A53 between the Müller and Tern Hill roundabouts. The farm trail is open to the public during farm shop opening hours, and on the path is the site of Fordhall Castle, an ancient motte and bailey structure which overlooks the River Tern valley.

To the south-east near the A529 an 18th-century farmhouse stands on the site of Tyrley Castle, which was probably built soon after 1066 and later rebuilt in stone in the 13th century. Nantwich & Market Drayton Railway Society - Meeting regularly in Market Drayton.

Shropshire Council also run a number of bus services under the 'ShropshireLink' brand in addition to the 301 and 302 Market Drayton Town Services. Market Drayton had a railway station which opened in 1863 and closed during the Beeching cuts in 1963. The railway station was located on the Nantwich to Wellington line of the Great Western Railway network and was also the terminus of the Newcastle-under-Lyme line of the North Staffordshire Railway network.
