Refreshing, mesmerized and wonderful are some of the words to sum up our weekend away in Port Elizabeth.
For all the nature lovers out there, you will have plenty to see when visiting Port Elizabeth. For all the beach lovers out there, you will have so much fun in the sun with the beautiful beaches to chill, relax and read a book.
There are so much more to see and do in Port Elizabeth.
We only had a limited amount of time, so we found and listed the following few gems.
#1. We took a stroll down to Summerstrand. It is a central suburb of Port Elizabeth. It is situated near several golden beaches, shopping malls, golf courses and an oceanarium. Whichever way you choose to spend your time in this beautiful section of Port Elizabeth, you can expect a relaxing and rewarding holiday in Summerstrand.
#2. A quick drive to Sardinia Bay. This popular beach has picnic facilities and is regarded as one of the best walking beaches with miles of unspoilt coastline. You will find some of the best spots to enjoy the sunset.
#3. The Sacramento trail is a popular 8 km round trip coastal walk. Starting at the Sacramento cannon, the trail skirts the coastline, and returns slightly inland, through indigenous coastal dune bush and Fynbos. The area offers attractive seascapes and landscapes.
#4. Nature Reserve of Cape Recife Lighthouse is approximately 10 km from Port Elizabeth. The walking trail starts at the entrance gate of the Nature Reserve and offers beautiful unspoilt beaches, natural dune vegetation, rocky outcrops, a lighthouse built in 1849, an old military observation post, as well as a bird hide. #SouthAfrica #PortElizabeth #Summerstrand

Kwazulu Natal - South Africa
Within this directory is information on one of South Africa’s nine provinces, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). With its sub-tropical climate and good surfing coastline KZN is a popular region for holiday makers. The warm waters of the Indian Ocean roll onto pristine sandy beaches, the majestic Drakensberg mountain range inland, along with the temperate Midlands – all catering to every holiday desire imaginable.
When the homeland of KwaZulu, meaning Place of the Zulu, was merged into the Natal province in 1994, the province was named KwaZulu-Natal. KZN is the only province in South Africa whereby its name reflects the dominant ethnic group. The province is home to the Zulu monarchy.
The province itself stretches from Port Edward in the south to the border of Mozambique in the north. Although the temperatures differ from area to area, as a whole KZN has the most tropical climate throughout SA, with the summers generally being very hot with exceptionally mild winters for the most part.
The Thukela River is the largest in KwaZulu-Natal and one of the most important in the county. Its source is in Mont-aux-Sources in the Drakensberg, plunging about 947m down in three remarkable waterfalls. Running right through the province and into the Indian Ocean, the Thukela River provides many water-sport activities along the way.
Pietermaritzburg is the capital of KwaZulu-Natal whilst Durban is its major city. Being one of the fastest-growing urban areas in the world, Durban is the busiest port in SA handling over 30-million tons of cargo a year. Combined with the port at Richards Bay, they account for over 70% of South Africa’s cargo tonnage.
KZN is lucky to have two World Heritage Sites at the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park (iSimangaliso) and the Ukhahlamba-Drakensberg Park. Ukhahlamba-Drakensberg Park was declared a World Heritage Site in 2000 and is a mountainous wilderness bordering Lesotho, boasting the highest mountain range in South Africa. Often referred to as “Little Switzerland” with its high snowfall rate in winter, the Drakensberg tends to have visitors flocking there all year-round. Beautiful waterfalls, rocks decorated with San art, and mountain peaks - the area is spectacular.

03 - A weekend in Port Edward
We spent the weekend down the south coast of KZN in the small town of Port Edward. We packed in as much as we could in the short time we were there and this is some of the highlights.
Our accommadation was the beautiful 10 Seaverge, situated right near the beach with stunning views of the ocean. We loved our stay there and would definitely go back!
