We visited the Basilica of our Lady of Scherpenheuvel.The Basilica is located on the Territory of Scherpenheuvel in Belgium. This place is the one of the most famous and most visited pilgrimage places in Belgium.
It was built on the initiative of the Archdukes Albert of Austria and Isabella.
The history of Scherpenheuvel has been linked to the veneration of Mary since the middle ages,when an oak tree in the shape of a cross stood on the hilltop between Zichem and Diest. A pious man then hung a statue of Mary on the oak and from then on many people came to pray there.#Travel #Roadtrip

Did you know 73,929 Indian soldiers lost their lives during the First World War? Indians were the first to be dropped in the war zone on behalf of Britain when German advancement happened in Belgium. Ypres, in Flanders, in Belgium is sombre aftermath of the several battles. Several hundreds of Indian soldiers died in just Ypres itself.

Pannendorp wandelroute (Alveringem)
De Pannendorproute start aan het Mout- en Brouwhuis De Snoek in Alveringem. Afstand van de wandeling is 9 kilometer. Niet geschikt voor kinderwagens en rolstoelgebruikers.
Alveringem is een Belgische gemeente, gelegen in de Westhoek in de provincie West-Vlaanderen, Het is een erg rustige plattelandsomgeving, gelegen tussen Veurne en Poperinge. Door het zuiden van de fusiegemeente stroomt de IJzer, door Alveringem-centrum loopt de Lovaart.
Je verkent het landschap aan weerszijden van de Lovaart. Aan de rechteroever komt het tracé langs de Leerzevaart en een oude dakpannenfabriek met bijhorende arbeiderswoningen in het gehucht Fortem. Aan de linkeroever leidt de route naar Oeren, een dorpskern met een kerk, een Belgisch soldatenbegraafplaats en enkele hoeves en een café.
De Belgische militaire begraafplaats in Oeren: vermoedelijk werd in 1915 gestart met het begraven van gesneuvelden rondom het laatgotische kerkje. Later werden hier ook gesneuvelden uit veldgraven uit de omgeving bijgezet. Tijdens de nacht van 9 op 10 februari 1918 smeerden onbekenden de letters van 38 heldenhuldezerken dicht met cement om ze onleesbaar te maken. De volgende nacht overschilderden Vlaamsgezinden de letters met zwarte verf.
Vermoedelijk werd de begraafplaats in 1924-1925 in zijn huidige vorm aangelegd, nadat de Belgische overheid het bijna 29 are grote kerkhof opeiste. Vandaag de dag rusten hier 509 gesneuvelden, waarvan er zes onbekend bleven. Er zijn ook nog vijf heldenhuldezerken.

Poperinge is situated about 13 km (8 miles) to the west of Ypres (Ieper). The region is famous for growing hops and furnishes 80% of Belgian production. The town is home to the national hop museum and is called hops city, hoppe stad in Dutch, a play on hoofd stad, the word for capital. Op visite bij Graaf Henri d'Udekem d'Acoz (Nonkel Henri) uit Proven-Poperinge (1933 - 2021)
Graaf Henri d'Udekem d'Acoz wordt geboren in Proven (Poperinge) in 1933 als oudste zoon van Susanna van Outryve d'Ydewalle en baron Charles d'Udekem d'Acoz. Er volgen in het adellijke gezin nog twee broers, Raoul en Patrick. Patrick is de vader van koningin Mathilde, vandaar dat Henri in de pers simpelweg als Nonkel Henri opduikt.
Van 1960 tot 1970 is hij burgemeester van Proven, van 1971 tot 1976 van Proven-Krombeke en van 1995 tot 2005 van Poperinge.
In 2005 trouwt “Meneer Henri” op z'n 71 ste met jonkvrouw Marie-Madeleine Kervyn d'Oud Mooregehm.

Bologna, the Red City of Italy
Bologna is a vibrant city in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. It is known for its red roofs, porticoes, and delicious food. Bologna is also a major university town, with the oldest university in the world still in operation.
In this video, we will take a tour of Bologna and explore some of its most popular attractions. We will visit the Piazza Maggiore, the Fountain of Neptune, and the Two Towers. We will also sample some of Bologna's famous food, including tortellini, mortadella, and gelato.

Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery
This is an unedited video of my visit to Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Poperinge, Ypres Salient Battlefields, Belgium, on 20th April 2017.
All but a few of those buried here died from wounds, and were evacuated to Remy Siding for treatment.
