Even the most fanatic lover of a country will love some parts of it less than others. I have heard some people complaining about some towns in England, the home of the Queen that some people are dying to live and work in. That prompts research into the 10 most hated towns in England.
This ranking is based mainly on the comments and complaints of residents of England and visitors to those towns. But it’s not limited to that since some complaints can be completely baseless. We dig deeper in researching these 10 most hated towns in England.
10. Slough
Let’s begin with Slough, a town in Berkshire, within the historic county of Buckinghamshire. This town is 20 miles west of central London and 19 miles northeast of Reading. You will find the town in the Thames Valley and within the London metropolis around the area at the intersection of the M4.
In spite of its location, Slough according to those visitors, is a town whose streets are littered with empty takeaway and full of packets or empty beer cans. This assertion hasn’t been contradicted by even just one resident. The quality of food in the town’s restaurants appears, kind of, made for losers who’re just out to eat as much unhealthy food as they can get away with.
9. Scunthorpe

Goole is a town, civil parish and inland port located at junction 36 off the M62 via the A614 and approximately 45 miles from the North Sea at the confluence of the rivers Don and Ouse in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England, although historically within the West Riding of Yorkshire. Goole lies 20 miles (32 km) south of York and 27 miles (43 km) west of Hull.
The port, which is the UK's furthest inland port, is highly versatile and capable of handling nearly 3 million tonnes of cargo per annum, making it one of the most important ports on the east coast of England. Goole is twinned with Złotów in Poland. Goole was informally twinned with Gibraltar in the 1960s; at that time, Gibraltar Court was named in Goole and Goole Court was named in Gibraltar. Glass is produced in Goole, which is also the centre of an agricultural district. The town's former large employer was in clothing manufacture for the big multiples,however this ended in the late 2000s.
Goole has a modestly sized town centre with many high street shops, independent retailers and public houses. The main shopping area is Wesley Square, off Boothferry Road (which has been pedestrianised around the main shopping area). There is a modern retail development in the town centre, a leisure centre next to the docks, and the Goole and District Hospital, to the north of the town. A theatre and cinema, Junction opened in 2009, giving the town access to live music, theatre, comedy, satellite screening broadcasts and film.
Goole has a several junior schools and a High School with a Sixth Form College attached to it. Goole College is affiliated with Hull College. There are Further Education colleges in Selby, Scunthorpe and Bishop Burton. At Goole College there is a program run for the older students at the High School(for the pupils in year 10 and above) to see what opportunities are held at the College.
The Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway built a line from Pontefract and Wakefield in 1848, and the North Eastern Railway connected the port with Doncaster and Hull in 1870. The prosperity from the coal and general cargo trade with the West Riding industrial area continued for 150 years after the opening of the canal. Today Goole railway station is at the junction of the Hull and Doncaster Branch and the Pontefract Line. Service is provided to Hull Paragon Interchange, Doncaster, Sheffield and Leeds, and the commuter stations in between. Goole is south of the M62 linking it with Kingston upon Hull in the east and the West Yorkshire urban belt in the west. The M18 runs west of the town, connecting it with South Yorkshire, the South and the Midlands. There are bus services to surrounding towns and villages
Goole's most prominent landmarks are its twin water towers, dubbed the salt and pepper pots. In the winter months, Goole's gas holder on Anderson Road is visible across the north of the town. Many of the hoists and cranes on the dockside can be seen across the town. The steeple of Goole Parish Church is tall enough to be seen across the town. The town's landscape is made up mostly of utility and industrial structures. A clock tower is within the main shopping district of the town on a roundabout which is on the site of the former open-air marketplace.

What are the most dangerous cities to live in the United Kingdom? Ranking the United Kingdom as the 116th most dangerous country is not bad at all. That means the country is safer than, at least, 115 others in the world. Between 2020 and 2021 alone, it experienced 600 homicides as just one of the crimes reported that year. A total of 6.1 crimes were reported during that year. Out of these, 2 million were crimes against another person. If there were 67 million people in the UK during that year, the crime rate would be a whole 2,985 crimes per 100,000 people. However, it’s not everywhere in the UK that is dangerous. In this video, we will discuss those currently rated as the 5 most dangerous cities in the United Kingdom.
5. Nottingham

If we go by its population of 337,100, Nottingham that’s playing host to the headquarters of a number of major international businesses including Boots, E. On Energy, Pedigree Petfoods, and Gala Bingo, is the 14th largest city in the UK.
It’s the most dangerous major city in Nottinghamshire. Out of the 236 cities, towns, and villages in Nottinghamshire, it’s among the 20 most dangerous overall. In 2021, the overall crime rate in Nottingham was 114 crimes per 1,000 people. That was 49 percent higher than the crime rate in Nottinghamshire with a rate of 76 per 1,000 residents. Violence and sexual offenses are the most common crimes in Nottingham with 14,210 offenses during 2021, producing a crime rate of 45 per 1,000.
In 2020, a total of 34,228 crimes were committed with a crime rate of 108 per 1,000. In 2019, 42,113 were committed with a rate of 133. The year 2018 witnessed 41,970 crimes with a rate of 133. In 2017, the crime rate was 119 with 37,753 crimes. And in 2106, the total crime was 30,097 with a rate of 95 crimes per 1,000 people.
In December 2021, Nottingham was the most dangerous city for bicycle theft, with 52 crimes reported. That month was also a bad month for the city’s residents as it was the most dangerous area in Nottinghamshire for burglary while 110 of these crimes were committed. The city recorded 321 criminal damages and arsons still during December 2021.
4. Birmingham
We just have to agree with the inclusion of Birmingham on this list. This is a city with a population of about 1.1 million with an urban area having just over 2.6 million residents and a metropolitan area with a population of 3.5 million. Birmingham, despite having a coveted reputation as the first manufacturing city in the world some 200 to 150 years ago, is currently one of the most dangerous cities in the UK.
As the most dangerous major city in the West Midlands, Birmingham is among the 10 most dangerous overall out of the 44 cities, towns, and villages in the West Midlands. In 2021, the overall crime rate in this city was 137 crimes per 1,000 people. That was 17 percent higher than the West Midlands’ overall crime rate of 118 per 1,000 residents. Violence and sexual offenses are the most common crimes in Birmingham during 2021 when some 78,062 of these crimes were committed. That was a rate of 67 per 1,000 and was 38 percent higher than the 2020's figure.
Consider also the historical crime rate for Birmingham, not just what it had in 2021, and form your opinion. In 2020, a total of 123,271 crimes were committed with a crime rate of 106 per 1,000. In 2019, 120,832 were committed with a rate of 104 per 1,000 residents. The city in 2018 witnessed 114,605 crimes with a rate of 99. In 2017, the crime rate was 89 while 103,319 crimes took place. And in 2106, the total crime was 90,930 while at the rate of 78 crimes per 1,000 people.

Castleford is a town in the metropolitan borough of Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. Historically in the West Riding of Yorkshire, to the north of the town centre the River Calder joins the River Aire and the Aire and Calder Navigation.
Castleford is the site of a Roman settlement. Within the historical Castleford Borough are the suburbs of Airedale, Cutsyke, Ferry Fryston, Fryston, Glasshoughton, Half Acres, Hightown, Lock Lane, Wheldale and Whitwood. Castleford is home to the rugby league Super League team Castleford Tigers.
Queen’s Park in Castleford provides evidence of Roundhouses used by the Anglo Saxons. This was a strategic area due to the views of the entire settlement. The history of the area includes Oliver Cromwell’s encampment in nearby Knottingley and Ferrybridge (originally thought to be in Castleford itself) whilst his forces laid siege to Pontefract Castle.
Castleford is only 0.93 miles (1.5 km) away from the M62 at Junction 32 via the A656 road. It has other A roads that criss-cross the town and provide access to Junction 31 on the same motorway. The River Aire and the River Calder have a confluence just north west of the town and also feed the Aire and Calder Navigation. Whilst it is an industrial waterway, it also hosts tourism with moorings on the Castleford Cut of the Navigation.
Castleford also had a second service to Leeds that left eastwards and swung north onto the former Castleford to Garforth Line, which would see services calling at Ledston & Kippax, before arriving in Garforth and continuing to Leeds.

Colne is a town and civil parish in Lancashire, England, six miles north-east of Burnley, 25 miles east of Preston, 25 miles north of Manchester and 30 miles west of Leeds. It is a market town and the cross allowing a market to be held there dates to the 15th century. The cross was originally in the Parish Church yard, but has been relocated in Market St, the main road through the town centre.
The town should not be confused with the unrelated Colne Valley around the River Colne near Huddersfield in West Yorkshire. Colne is close to the southern entrance to the Aire Gap, the lowest crossing of the Pennine watershed. The M65 terminates west of the town and from here two main roads take traffic onwards towards the Yorkshire towns of Skipton (A56) and Keighley (A6068). Colne railway station is the terminus of the East Lancashire railway line.
From the early 6th century to the late 10th century, Colne came under Northumbrian and then Viking rule, finally coming firmly under Norman control in the 11th century. Then, from the 1090s until 1311, the area was controlled by the de Lacys of Pontefract from their outpost at Clitheroe Castle. Pendle Forest and Trawden Forest date from this period; forests in those times being hunting grounds for royals and other nobles. St Bartholomew's Church dates from before 1122 when the town's market was located in the churchyard. The churchyard used to house the market cross and wooden stocks on wheels and people were placed in these on market days.[1] The stocks are now located in the nearby library. The market cross is in Market St.
The town developed in two parts: Colne, on top of the ridge; and Waterside, at the base of the southern slope, next to Colne Water. By 1296, a corn mill and a fulling mill had been established down by the river. Later, coal was also mined here. By the 15th century, Colne had become the main market town in the area with markets (latterly held on Tuesdays) and a major centre for the woollen trade, in particular for the production of lightweight kersey. With the Industrial Revolution, cotton manufacturing became the main industry in the town, fuelled by the completion of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal in 1816, and by the arrival of the railway in 1848. By 1891 there were 30 cotton mills listed in Colne with more in the surrounding areas of Trawden and Laneshaw Bridge.
Situated on the edge of the Pennines, Colne has views of several well-known hills. Boulsworth Hill, which lies on the boundary between Lancashire and West Yorkshire overlooks the town from the south. From the summit of Noyna Hill to the north, close to the village of Foulridge, it is possible to look out across much of East Lancashire and into the Yorkshire Dales. Blacko Tower (Stansfield Tower) is clearly visible to the north west, across White Moor, which forms the long eastern slope of Weets Hill.
The hamlet of Wycoller, off the road to Haworth, is the focus for the Country Park of the same name. Although traffic free (visitors must park outside the village), the peace and tranquility is often broken in the summer months as tourists are drawn to the visitor centre alongside the ruined hall. From here a network of footpaths and bridleways pass through the ford or cross Wycoller Beck on a series of ancient bridges, up to 1,000 years old. A series of circular walks traverse the lower slopes of Boulsworth Hill, whilst the long distance Bronte Way passes through en route to Haworth.
Colne is approximately 5 miles east of Pendle Hill, arguably the most well-known local landmark. Owing to its association with the Pendle witches, many local people walk up the hill, but particularly at Halloween. Several nearby farmhouses are reputed to be haunted, and have featured on the TV programmes Most Haunted and Most Haunted Live.

Since the Local Government Act 1985 Leeds City Council has effectively been a unitary authority, serving as the sole executive, deliberative and legislative body responsible for local policy, setting council tax, and allocating budget in the city, and is a member of the Leeds City Region Partnership. Amazing how the new 1960's building is inside the 14th and 15th century church.
A grade 2 listed structure. The outer structure dates from the 14th and 15th century. The church was held by the Royalists at the beginning of the English Civil War; in December 1644 the Parliamentarians sieged the church which was held by the Royalists armed with 11 cannons
