Places to see in ( Swansea - UK )

Swansea, officially known as the City and County of Swansea, is a coastal city and county in Wales. Swansea is the second largest city in Wales after Cardiff, and the twenty-fifth largest city in the UK.

Swansea lies within the historic county boundaries of Glamorgan and the ancient Welsh commote of Gŵyr. Situated on the sandy South West Wales coast, the county of Swansea area includes the Gower Peninsula and the Lliw uplands.

The City and County of Swansea local authority area is bordered by unitary authorities of Carmarthenshire to the north, and Neath Port Talbot to the east. Swansea is bounded by Swansea Bay and the Bristol Channel to the south. Swansea can be roughly divided into four physical areas. To the north are the Lliw uplands which are mainly open moorland, reaching the foothills of the Black Mountain. To the west is the Gower Peninsula with its rural landscape dotted with small villages. To the east is the coastal strip around Swansea Bay. Cutting though the middle from the south-east to the north-west is the urban and suburban zone stretching from the Swansea city centre to the towns of Gorseinon and Pontarddulais.

Swansea City A.F.C. (founded 1912) is the city's main football association team. Originally playing at the Vetch Field, they moved to the Liberty Stadium at the start of the 2005–2006 season, winning promotion to League One in their final year at their old stadium. The team presently play in the Premier League, after being promoted during the 2010/11 season. The Football Association of Wales had decided that for the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign, Wales would play all of their home ties at either the Cardiff City Stadium or the Liberty Stadium. Swansea has three association football clubs that play in the Welsh Football League: Garden Village, South Gower and West End.

A visit to Swansea High Street 18/02/2019.

This video covers a visit I made to Swansea High Street on the morning of the 18th of February 2019.
With so many changes taking place, I wanted to record as much as I could of the trains still carrying the old Arriva Trains Wales livery, and the rare sight of an HST on a London service, which has been covered in a previous upload.

Pontarddulais Classic Car Show, Pembrey Country Park, July 2nd 2017

On a beautiful sunny Sunday morning, I visited the Pontarddulais Classic Car Show at Pembrey Country Park, where my Brother Eric was showing his magnificent Mercedes. The sunshine brought the crowds out and a magnificent collection of vehicles, all shining in the superb condition they are kept in.

Henllys Lime Kilns - Hidden In The Valleys

To donate and support our channel:

Henllys Lime Kilns in Carmarthenshire is beautifully situated beside a river, carving its way through the valley. What’s left is well preserved and adds to the allure of the place and is just one stop on a beautiful walk.

Filmed: Spring 2021
Music: Morning Walk by Jonny Easton -
Entry: Free

----- Short History -----
- Probably built in the late 19th century.
- A narrow-gauge tramway was built after 1875, to connect the various limestone quarries at Foel Ffraith with limekilns near Henllys Vale Colliery.
- It associated with the Black Mountain quarries behind.
- Owned by Black Mountain Anthracite Co, later the New Henllys Anthracite Co. Ltd..
- Coal was obtained from the nearby Henllys Vale Colliery and limestone from nearby quarries via tramway.
- The chimney was used to power machinery. It had to be tall because of low wind down in the valley.
- Its four kilns are built into the hillside with an usually high bank of 10m.
- The kilns were connected to the Swansea Vale Railway.
- Henllys Vale closed by the 1930s, and most of the buildings were demolished by the 1950s.
- The chimney and limekilns were restored in 1986.

The Talyllyn Railway ~ The World's First Preserved Railway ~ 29/07/2017 2017

My final upload from my wonderful North Wales Holiday is a journey along the World's First preserved Railway (1951)...The Talyllyn Narrow Gauge Railway in North Wales. This line is probably known best for the inspiration for Rev W Audry the author of the World Famous 'Thomas The Tank' Books.
We start at the Railway's lower terminus at Tywyn Wharf, where we see 1921 built Kerr Stuart 'Peter Sam' shunting the stock for our 7 1/4 mile run up the line behind 1991 built by the Talyllyn Railway, 'Tom Rolt' the line's newest and most powerful locomotive.
I hope you've enjoyed my uploads during my week away, all taken without a tripod and in some very trying weather conditions....It's been a wonderful holiday...Thanks to tou all!

'The Tower Gateway' Excursion to Cwmbargoed & Tower Colliery 09/03/2014

UK Railtours, The Tower Gateway, hauled by 66250 Top 'N Tailed with 66021 ran from London Paddington to Cwmbargoed and Tower Colliery in South Wales during perfect conditions to visit these end of line locations situated high in the Mountains of South Wales. Due to operating difficulties, the train left London around an hour and a half late, however, with some re-adjustment of the schedules, managed to make up time throughout the day.
Firstly we see the train climbing up to Cwbargoed on the branch from Ystrad Mynach in the Rhymney Valley, then we see it passing the old Station location of Hirwaun on its way to Tower Colliery, on the Branch from Aberdare, before the final scenes at Aberdare, where we see a Class 150 arriving from Cardiff, and the Excursion as it accelerates smartly away down towards Cardiff and back to London.
