SCOTLAND TRAVEL (2023) | 10 Beautiful Places To Visit In Scotland (+ Itinerary Suggestions!)

Scotland is the most northerly part of the four areas that make up the United Kingdom. It’s known for rugged landscapes defined by mysterious lochs, magical mountains, and gothic castles. Scotland also has a strong culture featuring Celtic music, traditional kilts, and sophisticated whiskies. In this video, we show 10 of the best places to visit in Scotland.

10. Edinburgh
Edinburgh is located in the south-east and it’s Scotland’s most beautiful and interesting city. This is the place to take in the unique Scottish culture, with a vibrant pub scene and intriguing historic sites.

???? Watch Edinburgh Video:

9. Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park
Situated approximately 60 miles or 96 kilometers to the west of Edinburgh, Loch Lomond & the Trassachs National Park is the oldest national park in Scotland. It’s one of the most popular places to visit thanks to its proximity to urban areas as well as a wide variety of activities.

☑️ Boat tour Loch Lomond:

8. Glencoe Valley
Glencoe Valley is located in the Scottish Highlands in western Scotland. The area is known for its impressive mountain scenery, beautiful waterfalls, and trails that climb steep peaks, such as the Pap of Glencoe.

7. Glen Nevis
Located right outside the town Fort William, Glen Nevis is one of the most spectacular and beautiful glens in the Highlands. Above all, it’s home to Britain’s highest mountain: Ben Nevis, which is an impressive day hike.

6. Glenfinnan Viaduct
Only a stone's throw away from Glen Nevis and Fort William, the Glenfinnan Viaduct is a must-visit in Scotland! Made famous in the Harry Potter films, this 21-arched viaduct is set amongst some of Scotland’s finest scenery!

☑️ Glenfinnan Viaduct Circular Trail:

5. Inverness
Inverness is the northernmost city in the United Kingdom and is regarded as the cultural capital of the Scottish Highlands. Similar to Edinburgh, the city has a fantastic pub scene with great live music in the evenings.

4. Loch Ness
Located only a short drive from Inverness, Loch Ness is one of the most famous places in all of Scotland. The legend of the monster called Nessie goes back to ancient times.

3. Eilean Donan Castle
The Eilean Donan Castle is one of the most photographed castles in the world for a good reason. It’s perfectly situated on a small island with a charming curved bridge connecting it to the mainland.

2. Old Man of Storr (Isle of Skye)
Skye is the second largest island in Scotland and in our opinion, it has the most picturesque views you’ll encounter on your trip. The Old Man of Storr is the most iconic sight on the island and attracts many hikers and tourists alike.

1. Quiraing (Isle of Skye)
Quiraing is located on the Northern end of the Isle of Skye and boasts some of the best natural views in all of Scotland. The jagged landscape was caused by a landslip, which exposed strange rock formations underneath a large cliff.

Mines, Snakes and Shooting Range - Fleming Meadow Hike, Pollock Pines, CA (2019)

Here is a lovely hike near Sly Park that has less traffic, but amazing views. Fleming Meadow Trail System consists of several trails that can be accessed for hiking, horseback riding, or mountain biking. The elevation is between 3500 and 4000 feet, so it stays snow-free for most of the winter but cooler in the summer than the Sacramento Valley. The trail is located in Pollock Pines, just South of Sly Park/Jenkinson Lake.

Flumes have been delivering water for 150 years in the Sierra | Bartell's Backroads

You've probably seen flumes off interstate 80 near Truckee or maybe down below Highway 50 in the Pollock Pines area. They're made out of wood, they span long distances and for some reason, they carry water. In El Dorado County alone, about 120,000 people depend on the flume to get their drinking water.

Campground by the Lake

After leaving our free boondocking spot by Truckee, Ca. we are now headed to Lake Tahoe. The RV park is called Campground by the Lake.
As you as you enter into the Campground, there is access on the right to pullover and unhook your car, if you're towing a car behind a motorhome like us.
This campground has no sewer hookups, but it does have dual dump stations. Since we were dry camping in forests the week before, I was able to pull through and doing sharp left turn into the dump station. My rig is 32 feet long and had no issues making the turn.
After dumping your tank, and you need portable water, just pull forward and a portable water station will be on your right. I did have to make a three-point turn after living dump station to get back into the Campground.
We were in section site A1. It was huge. And there is Lake Tahoe just right across the street. The campground has 178 sites with Heated showers, and 6 restroom facilities. Each site comes with a BBQ, Fire Ring, and Picnic Table. As of this year 2021. Sites A and B are $50 a night, while the dry camping sites are $40 a night.
All sites are pretty spaced out for a RV park. The park is really split into three different sections. Sites A are all water and electric. Sites B, are electric only. Sites C, D, E, and F are all dry Camping. (No hookups). So make sure you fill up with the free portable water you first get here.
Here is a view of Sites A and B which are right across from the lake.
The next day we packed up our inflatable paddle boards walked across the street, and downstairs onto the beach. Set up our chairs, inflate the paddle boards and kicked it there for hours.
While paddle boarding the squirrels came out of the rocks and got into some of our snacks. We also drove to Inspiration Point which is 600 feet above Lake Tahoe and is one of the best spots to stop and take in the view of Emerald Bay.

The next stop we went to see balance rock, its located in D. L. Bliss State Park, it’s just a few mile pass inspiration point.
The following day we drove over to Kiva beach. Which is also on the South Shore. This beach is more secluded, that the commercial side of the lake. Awesome hiking trails

Canyon Pines RV Resort - Pollock, Idaho

08/02/14

Canyon Pines RV Resort is a beautiful, quiet place to relax and enjoy the sounds of the river. It is nestled in a canyon between Riggins and McCall and it is also close to several white water rafting opportunities. It's just a beautiful place in general and David and Sandy, the owners of Canyon Pines are very proud of their first rate facility. Stop in to their well stocked store and you'll find them to be exceptionally friendly. Everything is clean and maintained. We had the pleasure of camping in site #30 and I recommend this convenient pull-thru right on the Little Salmon River. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
