Visiting the town of Hanover @VilmasTravels

Today we are at Hanover during pandemic????
The Town of Hanover is located 70 km southwest of OWEN SOUND on the Saugeen River. Settlement began in the area in 1849 when Abraham Buck and his partner cut a trail west of Durham and took up a farm by the Saugeen River.

Hanover is a town in the Canadian province  of Ontario. It is located in southwestern Grey County, bordering on Bruce County, west of Durham and east of Walkerton on Grey/Bruce Road 4. Hanover has a city hall, police department and and District Hospital.

Welcome to Petrolia - Petrolia Tourism Promotional Video

Hi!
This is the first real cinematic video that I have ever made. This is a promotional video that I made about the Town of Petrolia! It features the Petrolia Discovery, Victoria Place, and various local buildings.
Hopefully this video can promote Petrolia Ontario tourism and some of the many things to do in Petrolia! Come tour Petrolia!

I know it isn't any where near perfect, but it has come a long way from where it was. I shot this in 2 days and had it completed in 3! I was initially inspired to create something for a contest, but I ended up learning a lot this weekend, most importantly that creating something and finishing it is worth more than giving up or striving for perfection.
So thank you for the opportunity to create something!

Thank you to Michael Vanhevel for helping me with a quick voice over to tie it all together!

2021 Petrolia Town Levee

WELCOME 2021!

As we continue to hang out at home and close to home just a little bit longer, Petrolia Heritage encourages you to enjoy the incredible history of our town and the Oil Heritage District.

Petrolia Heritage walking tour maps are available online Note the architecture and street names as you walk, run, and cycle through our historic neighbourhoods and parks. Wander through Hillsdale and the Pioneer Cemetery, these are fantastic repositories of history and monumental masonry, yes there is beauty in headstones. Stay tuned for announcements about both very interesting places in 2021.

Count yourself fortunate to be shopping local in one of Ontario’s best preserved Victorian downtowns where residents continue to get everything the need as they have for over 150 years.

Petrolia and Lambton history books are available for loan at Lambton County Libraries and click on for an incredible collection of historic photos, you may even find some oil baron ancestors.
The Oil Museum of Canada, Lambton County Archives and the Lambton Heritage Museum are open for visits by appointment all winter and Petrolia Discovery will welcome visitors again June to October.

Check out for “anytime” tours and hiking.

Enjoy a little history while we make history.
Happy 2021 to you all.
Liz Welsh, Chairperson
Petrolia Heritage Committee

The tradition of the levee started in the 17th century with King Louis XIV as his opportunity to welcome select subjects to his bedchamber at the start of a new day. The custom spread through Great Britain in the 18th century as a formal court reception hosted for men in the early afternoon.
The association between the levee and New Year’s Day began in Canada as this was the day that fur traders paid their respects to their government representatives.
The first formal Canadian levee was recorded on January 1, 1646 in the Chateau St. Louis by Charles Huault de Montmagny, the Governor of New France (later Québec). During the levee, Huault de Montmagny greeted residents and shared the state of affairs within the area.
Today, the format of the levee has changed considerably but the idea of having residents welcomed by their local government at the start of a New Year is alive and well in Petrolia.
Due to the COVID-19 world pandemic, the Petrolia Levee hosted by the Petrolia Heritage Committee will not proceed as it has for the past several years. This year’s levee and Petrolia Community Fund Grant presentations will be brought to the community as a video with greetings from Mayor R. Brad Loosley, Petrolia Heritage Advisory Committee Member, Marty Dillon and Community Micro Grant Presentations from Jane Anema, Executive Director, and fellow members of the Petrolia Community Fund.
The video will be published at 1:00 p.m. on January 1, 2021 and will be available via link on the Town website ( on the Town of Petrolia You Tube Channel, or on the Town of Petrolia Facebook Page.
The Town of Petrolia would like to thank the Petrolia Heritage Advisory Committee for their work to keep this tradition alive in Petrolia each year, and to the Petrolia Community Fund for their generosity.

Chorus Of Tribes - Myth is a relatively unknown new age / ambient album from Etherean Records. The album was released in 1998 in the UK. The album has a rather ironic story behind it. Late 1997 it was released as a bootleg across the internet and various p2p sites as an album by Deep Forest and Enigma, and not by Chorus Of Tribes. Who dubbed Chorus Of Tribes to Deep Forest and Enigma is unknown, but musically it recembles the two artists in a fair amount, which makes the assumption understandable. This made some people confused, and the album was later rejected as any form of collaboration between the two famous new age artist groups from both sides. However, the songs on this album, independent of whoever made it, became more or less famous.

Video editado con secuencias de imágenes de spots promocionales turísticos de la región de Alberta.

Western PA Trip Part 2 - Buffalo & Pittsburgh Petrolia Local Chase - 10/20/08

CAPTURING THE RAILS IS NOW CTR AERIAL!! Please subscribe for new drone footage uploaded every week!

On day 2 of my western PA trip I headed over to Butler to see what the Buffalo & Pittsburgh was up to. I did a little research ahead of time and it seemed like a lot of the traffic was run overnight except for a yard job and the BT-3 local to Petrolia. The BT-3 travels on a section of the old B&O Northern Subdivision. The highlight of the trip is a couple of wooden trestles in Chicora, both of which are seen in this video. The other 2 scenes are both taken at Carbon Center. Unfortunately, the chemical plant in Petrolia shut down recently and the future of this line looks pretty bleak.
