10-Days Canoe Camping in Algonquin Park - (Ep. 1)
10 Days in the Canadian Backcountry!
Canoeing, portaging, camping, fishing, swimming, cooking on the fire. Watching magnificent sunsets and sunrises. Listening to the hauntingly beautiful calls of loons. Thunderstorms, heavy rain showers, strong winds threatening to windbound us.
We take on a circular 10-day loop. We start day one from Magnetawan Lake and travel through Hambone, Daisy, Petawawa River, Little Misty, Misty Lake where we camp for the night.
This was a beautiful journey that I'll never forget. Thanks for coming along for the ride!

Brent Run, Algonquin Park
A short account of the Brent Run canoe trip in Algonquin Park, ON. This is a series of videos with a few stills from a paddling adventure from July 2014. The Brent Run trip starts at Canoe Lake, goes to Brent Station and return. The total length is 160km with 46 portages. Some people do this trip without stopping. We decided to take our time and spend 10 days in this wonderful Algonquin interior.

This video was created by George Drought and won the 2003 Waterwalker Film Festival Heritage Award. In 2013 I asked his wife Barbara Burton for permission to share the copy of the film that I had converted from DVD to digital. Barbara graciously gave me permission to do so.
Here is the text from the box of the original VHS tape:
A beautiful film showing the many faces of the Petawawa River. Jewel of Ontario talks about the river in ways that are rarely shown to us. It evinces the early days of the European incursions into its heart with the building of dams and chutes to float the logs down. It interviews some of the old-timers like Ed Charrette who still remembered, at age 93, his early years loading logs on the river at Radiant Lake. It talks of and shows some of the wildlife that can be seen in a descent of the river. It gives ample evidence of both high and low water conditions for the whitewater enthusiasts and finally it reveals the different seasons of the river.
In 1981, George Drought descended the full length of the Petawawa River with his son Richard. It started a fascination with the river that has continued to this day. He has run it in all conditions and his accumulated knowledge of the river led the Friends of Algonquin to contract him to write The Petawawa River Whitewater Guide. That as back in 1993. Since then he has continued his travels and explorations both alone and with his wife Barbara Burton in all seasons of the year resulting in the production of this video Jewel of Ontario.
