Places to see in ( Falmouth - UK )

Places to see in ( Falmouth - UK )

Falmouth is a town, civil parish and port on the River Fal on the south coast of Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. Falmouth was where Henry VIII built Pendennis Castle to defend Carrick Roads in 1540. The main town of the district was then at Penryn. Sir John Killigrew created the town of Falmouth shortly after 1613.

While Falmouth's maritime activity has much declined from its heyday, the docks are still a major contributor to the town's economy. It is the largest port in Cornwall. Falmouth is still a cargo port and the bunkering of vessels and the transfer of cargoes also keep the port's facilities busy.

Falmouth is a popular holiday destination and it is now primarily a tourist resort. The five main beaches starting next to Pendennis Castle and moving along the coast towards the Helford river are Castle, Tunnel, Gyllyngvase, Swanpool and Maenporth beaches. The National Maritime Museum Cornwall opened in February 2003. The building was designed by the architect M. J. Long.

Falmouth is famous for its harbour. Together with Carrick Roads, it forms the third deepest natural harbour in the world, and the deepest in Western Europe. Falmouth is a terminus of the A39 road, connecting to Bath, Somerset some 180 miles (290 km) distant. Falmouth has three railway stations (described above) at the southern end of an 11 3⁄4 miles (19 km) branch line (the Maritime Line) to the county town of Truro.

Places to see in ( Helston - UK )

Places to see in ( Helston - UK )

Helston is a town and civil parish in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. Helston is situated at the northern end of the Lizard Peninsula approximately 12 miles east of Penzance and 9 miles south-west of Falmouth.

Helston is the most southerly town on the island of Great Britain and is around 1.5 miles (2.4 km) farther south than Penzance. The former stannary and cattle market town is best known for the annual Furry Dance (known locally as the Flora Dance), said to originate from the medieval period. However, the Hal-an-Tow is reputed to be of Celtic origin. The song, and music, associated with the Furry Dance is known to have been written in 1911. In 2001, Helston celebrated the 800th anniversary of the granting of its Charter.

Helston is situated along the banks of the River Cober in Cornwall. Downstream is Cornwall's largest natural lake Loe Pool, formed when a shingle bar blocked the mouth of the river by rising sea levels forming a barrier beach. To the south is the Lizard Peninsula, an area important for its complex geology and wildlife habitats.

Helston is on the A394 road. To the west, the A394 leads to Penzance; to the north-east it leads to Penryn where it joins the A39, which leads south to Falmouth and north-east to Truro. The B3297 runs north from Helston to Redruth.

The nearest railway station is Redruth on the Cornish main line, although the Helston branch line railway served the town until closure in the early 1960s. The branch left the ex-GWR main line at Gwinear Road station near Hayle, and ran 8.5 miles (13.7 km) south to terminate at Helston railway station. The Helston Railway Preservation Company is undertaking the restoration of part of the line. Bus services now link Helston to the rail network; First South West provides the (34) bus service from Redruth station to Helston as well as other services to nearby towns and the Lizard peninsula.

Flora Day occurs annually, on 8 May (except when the date falls on a Sunday or Monday — Monday being Market Day — when it is the preceding Saturday) Helston hosts the Furry Dance. Helston Town Band has a rich history, which can be traced back to the turn of the 20th century. Indeed, there are members of the current band whose family connections extend back four generations.

Helston is also the birthplace of Bob Ruby Robert Fitzsimmons, the first triple world boxing champion. The house where he was born and lived in Helston is still standing and is indicated by a plaque above the door. The Helston Museum, founded in 1949, occupies the building originally designed as the town's Market House in 1837, with two separate buildings—one for butter and eggs, the other the meat market.

There are three Cornish crosses in Helston: one in Cross Street and two in Mr. Baddeley's garden (Cross Street). One of the latter crosses was removed from Tresprison, Wendron, and other from near Trelill Holy Well, Wendron. The Grylls Monument, at the end of Coinagehall Street was built by public subscription in 1834 to thank Humphry Millet Grylls. Helston also hosts The Flambards Experience, formerly the Helston Aero Park, which is a theme park with a selection of rides together with a few remaining aviation exhibits. Nearby Wendron is home to the Poldark Mine theme park, where visitors can go underground into the old workings.

( Helston - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Helston . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Helston - UK

EXPLORING FALMOUTH ENGLAND VLOG ◆ Rainy Day At Pendennis Castle, Eating Pasties, & Falmouth Quay!

[Filmed October 21, 2020] PLEASE NOTE: Cornwall was in Tier 1 on the date that this video was filmed, and we had traveled from another Tier 1 area. All of the UK’s hands-face-space guidelines were followed, and Derek and I strictly adhered to all local rules and regulations.

In today’s video, we encountered the famous British weather in droves. LOT’S of rain!

As a result, we decided to explore closer to our AirBNB in Penryn, and explore the Falmouth, England area!

We started by using our English Heritage memberships to get into Pendennis Castle and learn local military and defense history.

After leaving the castle, we parked near the Falmouth High Street and explored the harbour and Falmouth Quay area with lot’s of shops, restaurants, and pubs. There, we decided to try our first OFFICIAL Cornish pasty!!! (aka eat one in the actual county of Cornwall!)

We capped off our rainy day at a local pub where we dried off and unwound.

I hope you enjoy tagging along on our visit! Cheers, and happy travels!

10 UNITED KINGDOM TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

Top 10 Tourist Attractions in the UK. In this video, we will talk about exploring the United Kingdom. There are many tourist attractions in the UK. From England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, there is a lot of rich history and sights to see. The UK also has some of the world's most beautiful Northern Ireland castles. Hopefully, this English tourism video can give you an insight into things to do in the UK.

Around Penryn, Cornwall - UK

From pirates to strawberries! A fascinating walk around Penryn, Cornwall

Due to a copyright claim, we have had to remove our titles and music, both at the beginning and end of this video. Apologies if it makes the video appear a bit clunky at the beginning.

From hauntings to hangings, jail breaks, giant strawberries and piracy! Join us as we learn more about the people that lived in Penryn over the years, its development as a town, and we uncover some unique architectural quirks which we have not seen anywhere else in Cornwall.

Mentioned in the Doomsday Book, Penryn has a long history, with a thriving port where wealth was generated, both from trade and ecclesiastical learning, but also piracy!

In the 13th century, Bishop Bronescombe of Exeter built Glasney College. It stood for nearly 300 years before it was dissolved in the Tudor reformation by which time it had fallen into disrepute. Although there is very little of the original building to see above ground, a recent archeological dig revealed the footprint of the college which has been cleverly re-defined today.

John Killigrew, a wealthy man in the 17th century decided to leave Penryn and develop Falmouth into a competitive port, leading to a rivalry between the two towns. He and his wife, Jane, had a long, disputed divorce after she was accused of having an affair. She sought refuge in Penryn, where she was welcomed.

We thoroughly enjoyed a fascinating dip into Penryn's past.

Truro to University of Exeter (Penryn Campus)| Bus journey in UK| Beautiful scenic view experience

My Journey:
Truro, the capital city of Cornwall. Today I will be traveling from Truro to Penryn. So here, I am at the Truro bus stand B, ready to catch U1 or U1A to Falmouth via Penryn.
I will travel from Truro to my university which is the University of Exeter Penryn campus. This university has two main campuses one is in Exeter main city and another one is in Penryn. If you live in Truro you have to take a bus from Truro bus station from stand B. The bus is U1 or U1A.
It’s a double-decker bus and the journey is amazing. It’s a lovely morning and I took the bus at 8.20 am. You can see the lovely M&S store.
The name Truro is derived from the word Tri meaning Three and Ru- meaning Roads. So there are three main roads entering Truro from the north, east, and west. This is Cornwall County’s only city Truro. It got its city status, because of the centrally located cathedral.
This city was developed between the rivers where Truro acted as a port for exporting Cornish Tin. This history goes back to at least the 13th century when Truro had grown to become one of the five stannary towns in Cornwall.
This street is called lemon street named after a merchant William Lemon who built houses on this street in the early 19th century.
Now we are approaching to next stop is called the lander monument. This is also a stop for Truro Health Park run by NHS
The person you saw on the left-hand side is called a lollipop lady…. She is responsible for kids to cross the road as there is a girl's school named Truro high school.
Right-hand side houses as you can see are under the Copperfield area/ it is previously known to be Lord Falmouth’s farmland.
This tree-tunneled road forming a continuous canopy overhead is the most awaited view which raises my spirit to take this bus route every single day.
Coming to our next stop the Playing place. The name comes from its Cornish name “plain an gwarry”. Historically this was an open-air performance area used for entertainment purposes.
Crossing this built locality, is what we call the Carnon down’s village. These bungalows and detached houses were built in the latter half of the 20th century. This locality is also best known for its caravan and camping park areas.
After leaving the Carnon down village we get National highway for few minutes. If you take a car you don’t need to de route via Carnon down the village
After around 20-30 mints journey we can finally see our beautiful, campus Chao.

Bus number: U1 (Truro to Falmouth via Penryn) or U1A (Newquay to Falmouth, via Truro and Penryn)

Bus fare:
You can get the bus tickets either directly from the driver (£4.20 single trip) or you can get it from the app by first Kernow bus (Cornwall), which will be slightly cheaper based on the options you opt for.
Because of my daily visit to the university, I got 20 tickets for £100 with a validity of 1 year.

Places to see in ( Flushing - UK )

Places to see in ( Flushing - UK )

Flushing is a coastal village in west Cornwall, England, UK, in the civil parish of Mylor. It is 3 miles east of Penryn and 10 miles south of Truro. It faces Falmouth across the Penryn River, an arm of the Carrick Roads. he village is known for its yearly Regatta week in July. Flushing lies within the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Almost a third of Cornwall has AONB designation, with the same status and protection as a National Park.

The village was founded in 1661; there is disagreement about whether there are any houses of the late 17th century. Originally named Nankersey, meaning valley of the reed swamp, the village was given its name by Dutch engineers from Flushing in the Netherlands who built the three main quays in the village. The grand houses on St Peter's Hill, the road that leads into the village, were owned by captains of the packet ships (mail-boats) that docked in nearby Falmouth. Henry VIII intended to build a castle on Trefusis Point, to accompany those built at Pendennis and St. Mawes, but due to the expensive wars was unable to finance it.

In the 19th and 20th centuries, the village's economy mainly relied upon fishing, the two farms and former manors of Trefusis (the original seat of the Trefusis family, Barons Clinton since 1791) and Tregew, together with Falmouth Docks. There was also briefly a copper mine on Jericho beach, but extracting the copper proved commercially unviable. Now Flushing is principally a commuter village for the nearby towns of Penryn, Falmouth and Truro, although some commercial fishing vessels are still based in the village. There are also several B&Bs to cater for tourists; many houses in the village now lie unoccupied for most of the year as they are used as holiday homes.

Most of Flushing's 670 residents live in the centre of the village, on Coventry Road, Kersey Road and St Peter's Hill, although there is limited housing along Trefusis Road out as far as Kiln Beach, and there are also some houses near Trefusis Farm near the border with Mylor Bridge. The doctor's surgery is located in the Village Hall. There are two pubs, the Royal Standard on St Peter's Hill and the Seven Stars on Trefusis Road opposite Fish Cross. There is also a fish restaurant on Ferry Quay.

Flushing Regatta Week is held annually during late July or early August, and features water-based activities such as bathtub racing, rowing, swimming and sailing races, sand-castle building contests, a mini-marathon through Mylor and Flushing, an open-air church service, a pub quiz, crab catching, and a carnival on Saturday night, and has achieved marked popularity locally. Every year, two residents of Flushing who have contributed to the life of the village over a period of time are selected to be the Presidents; their responsibilities include judging competitions and opening events.

The Nankersey Male Choir perform regular concerts throughout the year, raising money for local good causes, and classical concerts and recitals are often held in the Methodist chapel. The village has two gig clubs, Nankersey Rowing Club and Flushing & Mylor Pilot Gig Club.

Due to its position, Flushing is said to be one of the warmest villages in the United Kingdom. The beaches at Kiln are extremely popular in the summer months, particularly with tourists, offering superb views of Falmouth Docks, the Carrick Roads and St Anthony's Head. There is also another beach further around the coast known as Jericho, which is only accessible from the houses directly above the beach or by rowing boat, and is therefore popular with locals.

( Flushing - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Flushing . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Flushing - UK
