5 Top-Rated Day Trips from Cardiff, Wales | the United Kingdom Day Tours Guide

5 Top-Rated Day Trips from Cardiff, UK

On the southern coast of Wales, Cardiff is the perfect place from which to explore the Welsh countryside. From here, you can access the country's two most important national parks, Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons, the latter less than an hour's drive through stunning scenery (while Snowdonia takes a little longer to access, it is also a must-visit). Other great day trips from Cardiff include exploring the beautiful Pembrokeshire coastline and its many pleasant towns, including Carmarthen, the legendary birthplace of Merlin, along with Swansea, one of the busiest cultural centers in the country. Also worth checking out are the many museums dedicated to Wales' industrial past, including the massive Rhondda coal works and the Museum of the Welsh Woolen Industry in Cardigan (and yes, Wales does have a lot of sheep!). Best of all, Wales is such a small country, it's easy to double-up on your day trips, hitting more than one great attraction each time you venture out. Here five day trips from Cardiff, Wales Europe.

1. Brecon Beacons National Park
2. Snowdonia National Park
3. Pembroke Castle and Pembrokeshire Coast National Park
4. Carmarthen and Laugharne
5. Rhondda and Blaenavon: Celebrating Wales' Industrial Heritage

Best Places to Visit in South Wales | UK Adventure Guide

South Wales is home to incredible places to visit, from stunning waterfalls to awesome hikes. In this adventure guide I share with you the best places to visit in South Wales.

South Wales is home to tons of incredible castles and my two favirotes that I think are worth a visit is Carreg Cennen and White Castle. If you like wild swimming then the best places to visit in South Wales would be the two Blue Lagoons, one in Pantygasseg, Canyon and the other . Both are stunning wild swimming spots and one of them you can even cliff dive.

The South of Wales is also home to lots of awesome waterfalls and in this guide I share with you my favorites. First being the Four Waterfalls Walk and the other two being Sgwd Gwladys and Henrhyd Falls.

Finally on the best places to visit in South Wales I included my favourite hiking spot found in the Brecon Beacons National Park. Llyn y Fan Fach is a lesser known South Wales hike with amazing views and a lake perfect for wild swimming!

These are my picks for the best places to visit in South Wales. I hope enjoy this Wales Travel guide and make sure to let me know if you would like to see more South Wales guides!

Pembroke Castle History & Tour / Birthplace Of The First Tudor King

Pembroke Castle History & Tour / Birthplace Of The First Tudor King

Pembroke Castle is located in the centre of Pembroke, Pembrokeshire in Wales on a strategic rocky promontory next to the Pembroke River.  Pembroke Castle is said to be one of the finest castles not only in Wales but also throughout Britain. It serves as a testament to the opulence and influence of the medieval Earls of Pembroke and is the birthplace of Henry VII, the first Tudor King.

The story of the castle begins in 1093, when during the Norman invasion of Wales a small timber motte-and-bailey fortification was built by Roger de Montgomery, 1st Earl of Shrewsbury.  The history of the site upon which the castle sits dates much further back, all the way back to the stone age!

Places to see in ( Narberth - UK )

Places to see in ( Narberth - UK )

Narberth is a town and community in Pembrokeshire, southwest Wales. It was founded around a Welsh court, but later became a Norman stronghold on the Landsker Line. It became the headquarters of the hundred of Narberth. It was once a marcher borough. George Owen described it in 1603 as one of nine Pembrokeshire boroughs in decay.

The town, which is close to the A40 trunk road, holds a number of events throughout the year and is twinned with Ludlow, Shropshire. Narberth was founded around a Welsh court, but later became a Norman stronghold on the Landsker Line. It became the headquarters of the hundred of Narberth. It was once a marcher borough. George Owen described it in 1603 as one of nine Pembrokeshire boroughs in decay.

Narberth is a mile south of the A40 trunk road (on the A478) and Narberth railway station is on the main line between Swansea and Pembroke. Attractions in the town include several art galleries, the Narberth Museum, the former town hall which still houses the cell where the leaders of the Rebecca Riots were imprisoned and a ruined castle. Narberth has a range of independent shops, including a Daily Telegraph sponsored 'Best Traditional Business', national award-winning butcher, women's boutiques, gift shops and has developed a reputation as an antiques centre. In 2014 The Guardian called it not only a gastronomic hub for west Wales but also one of the liveliest, most likable little towns in the UK.

Other attractions near to Narberth include Blackpool Mill, at the highest tidal reach of the River Cleddau, where otters and other wildlife may be seen and Oakwood Theme Park. The town's cultural and arts centre, the Queen's Hall, has recently played host to live bands such as Therapy?, The Blockheads, The Automatic, Sonic Boom Six, Skindred, Send More Paramedics, Pendulum and Enter Shikari. Concerts, plays and many classes, such as Kung Fu, yoga and line dancing are held there and it has a contemporary art gallery and a restaurant. The Bloomfield House Community Centre, a Community association and a registered charity is located in Narberth.

Narberth Food Festival takes place on the fourth weekend of September every year. It is a not for profit event run by volunteers. On Friday 100 local primary school children are invited to an education day where they take part in food-related activities. On the Saturday and Sunday there are stallholders selling food, drinks and cookware as well as talks, entertainment and children's activities.

Narberth Civic Week is held during the last full week of July and includes a parade through the town to one of the churches, where a service is held to welcome the newly appointed Mayor. In 2008, the Civic Service was held in the grounds of Narberth Castle for the first time. During Civic Week, there are various activities arranged for children, families and visitors to the town.

( Narberth - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Narberth . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Narberth - UK

Pembrokeshire Coast & Carmarthenshire: 10 Great Things To Do

My guide for the best things to do in The Pembrokeshire Coast. The Pembrokshire Coast is a national park in South West Wales, it's full of epic scenery, breath taking coastlines and gorgeous towns, all in such a small area which makes it the perfect place for a holiday! So here is my top 10 places to visit whilst in The Pembrokeshire Coast.

I have recently updated and improved this video, you can watch it here:

There are so many things to do in the Pembrokeshire Coast including the famous town of Tenby from my previous video.

- Watch Tenby Video Here -

Other than Tenby is the town of Laugharne, home to the famous welsh poet Dylan Thomas. As well as as many castles as you could possibly wish for, all from the 11th Century, these norman style castles have been partially restored and are very cheap (and even free) to enter. As well as the smallest city in the UK. You can also catch some Epic Cornwall style waves here, see where the land speed records were set in the 1920's and much more.

Here is the list from the video:

- Visit Tenby
- Walk 5 Mile From Saundersfoot To Tenby
- Visit Laugharne Castle
- Visit The House of Dylan Thomas
- Visit Manorbier Castle
- Viait St. David's (The Smallest City in the UK)
- Surf At Newgale Beach
- Drive Down The Pembrokeshire Coastline
- Visit Pendine Sands
- Visit Llansteffan Castle

I will be making another video soon about the best things to do in Snowdonia and Anglesey as well as more about my full road trip.

- Check out the full 'Perfect Wales Road Trip' playlist here -

For more details on these places and much more make sure you subscribe as I will be posting more about wales very soon. New videos every week!

12 Best Towns to Live in Wales

What are the best towns in Wales? We do not get to hear a lot about cities and towns in Wales, not as much as we do about those in England and Scotland. However, whenever the towns to live in the UK are ranked, Welsh towns find their way in. That inevitably reveals the best places to live in Wales. Sorting through the ranking, we are able to isolate the 12 best towns to live in Wales. Please bear in mind that our ranking relies to a large extent, but not entirely, on the most recent ranking of towns in Britain in the marketing report by the property finder company, Garrington’s. Factors considered are employment, green spaces, physical environment, quality of living, and architecture or heritage.

12. Narberth, Pembrokeshire
Just two years ago, Narberth was among the 8 Welsh villages and towns named the best places to live in the UK. It actually tops that ranking. Two years later, things are only getting better. A reputable online mortgage broker gives the town's average property price as 164,950 pounds. You can’t rush through your shopping in this beautiful small town. There are a lot of good and uncommon things to be bought and at reasonable prices there. On the high streets of this town are antique shops, vintage and craft outlets, award-winning cafes, delicatessens featuring local produce, restaurants and pubs among others. It also has a museum and romantic castle ruins. It has very good schools and great transport links.

11. Usk, Monmouthshire
Usk, a town and community in Monmouthshire, stands out in Wales. This town located 16 kilometers northeast of Newport is on the River Usk and is spanned by an arched stone bridge toward the western entrance to the town. This is a town with well-designed homes and bursting with community spirit.
We perfectly agree with the Sunday Times’ expert judges ranking Usk among the loveliest towns to live in Wales. Truly, on a more important note, a look at the air quality, school standards, broadband speed, and transport in this town will necessitate its inclusion here. It also ranks so well for green spaces, community culture, and the health of the attractive high street.
10. Glanaman, Carmarthenshire
Glanaman is another town with an overall high rank among the best towns to live in Wales. Out of 1372 places ranked in the United Kingdom, it ranks 71st. In the same ranking, we find it in the second position for natural beauty. For the quality of life rank, it holds the 200th position while its architectural beauty places it in the 796th position. As for green rank, it finds a place in number 555.
This town has a strong historical link to the ancient coal mining industry. Sited in the valley of the River Amman, Glanaman’s average family home cost is less than 350,000 pounds.
9. Blaenavon, Torfaen
Blaenavon, a town in Torfaen, is another Welsh town steeped in history. It was at one point the world giant among the important producers of iron, coal, and steel.
On the quality of life, it was the 69th best place to live in the UK while for natural beauty, it’s in the enviable third position. It’s also in the impressive 7th position for architectural beauty. The average family home costs less than 350,000 pounds. It would have ranked higher on this list but for its poor ranking for green space.
8. Brecon, Powys
Brecon in Powys, another market town, is also among the loveliest towns to live in Wales. The town is reputable for its annual scintillating jazz festival and its gorgeous cathedral is situated just within the Brecon Beacons National Park.

WELSH BEACHES! TOUR OF PEMBROKESHIRE WALES | Barafundle Bay & Pembroke Castle | AERIAL VIEWS!

WELSH BEACHES! TOUR OF PEMBROKESHIRE WALES | Barafundle Bay & Pembroke Castle | AERIAL VIEWS!

In this video we continue our tour of Pembrokeshire, if you missed the previous episode where we explore Tenby you can see it here:

We head over to Barafundle Bay for some late afternoon/early evening walks and views of one of the best Welsh beaches, if we’d had time a paddle board would have been perfect for this place, so if you have one, bring it with you when you visit. Otherwise just enjoy the stunning coastal views and tranquility of the South Pembrokeshire Heritage Coast and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. This beach is tucked away and involves a bit of walking to get to but it is so worth the effort once you’re there!

After Barafundle Bay we head over to check out Pembroke Castle whilst we were in the area. Pembroke Castle has a really fascinating history and was built originally from wood and earth back in 1093 by the English Norman invaders, today it is much more than wood and earth (no thanks to Oliver Cromwell who wanted it destroyed). The castle is open to the public and is the largest privately-owned castle in Wales, we would love to have gone inside but we only had the evening here this time.

Pembroke Castle Wales Travel VLOG

Deanna details what steps an attacker would have to go through to seize the castle. She educates us on the upper crust. We also learn what happens when John Poyer gets a blank paper. Vince explains Pembroke's domed roofs. Another visit to the loo or Garderobe as it was known.

We get a birds eye view from atop Wales tallest keep, and we also get a birds eye view down inside the tallest norman keep.

Learn why castles and stairs were build circular and Deanna muses on the difficulty of medieval Queens navigating them.

See an actual medieval dungeon and learn about on prisoners fate. See where an inspiration for the Robin Hood stories, King John Lackland dined with good friend William Marshal the 1st Earl of Pembroke.

We also explore Pembroke's unique cave.

Pembrokeshire in Wales was the centre for Norman rule in West Wales. Pembroke Castle is home to an amazing medieval castle containing the Great Map of Wales. We didn't focus too much on the map, you really have to stand on it yourself to experience it, but it is the largest painted map in the world.

The castle has incredible sea views along the 186 mile Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Path. It is the only National Coast Park in Britain, and the Landsker line, which is a group of castles and strongholds built by 11th century Normans to divide England and Wales.

Pembroke Castle is where Henry Tudor King Henry III was born, and contains ties to Robin Hood and a Knights Tale, plus there is no doubt it's history inspired some parts of Game of Thrones.
