Our visit Nuremberg travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a food guide (Nuremberg Bratwurst, beer and pretzels), top sightseeing tourist attractions and the city by day including visiting castles, churches and museums. We also cover off-the-beaten-path outdoor activities you won't find in a typical Nuremberg tourism brochure, Nuremberg itinerary or Nuremberg, Germany city tour.

10 Things to do in Nuremberg, Germany travel guide video transcript:

We started our day by taking the U-bahn to the centre of town and getting off at Lorenzkirche. This put us on the south bank of the Pegnitz River, where we took the opportunity to browse some markets before visiting St Lorenz Church.

This is a beautiful gothic church complete with pointed vaults, stained glass windows, and sculptures.

From there we walked across one of the city’s many bridges and continued on to the Beautiful Fountain (yes, that’s the name), searching for a bit of good luck.

One of Nuremberg’s most famed attractions is the Imperial Castle located in the northwest end of the Old Town. The castle is a testament to the power of the Holy Roman Empire during the middle ages.

And we couldn’t come all the way to Nuremberg and not try the famed Nuremberger sausage! We went to Bratwursthäusle, right in the heart of the Old Town by St Sebaldus Church.

Later that afternoon we went into Nuremberg’s deep underground on a tour of the historic beer cellars. Nuremberg has been a beer brewing city for centuries.

While in town, we also took a walk down Weißgerbergasse, which may just be one of the prettiest streets in Nuremberg. This curved cobbled street is lined with half-timbered houses.

Albrecht Dürer’s one time home is now a museum dedicated to his life and work. He was a German Renaissance artist across many mediums, but he is best known for revolutionizing printmaking and elevating it as an art form. At certain times of day, they offer a guided tour with an actress who plays the role of Agnes Dürer, the artist’s wife.

The bridge we were looking for is the Heilig-Geist-Spital, or the Holy Spirit Hospital. It’s not a bridge in the usual sense of the word, rather a medieval building that sits across part of the Pegnitz River.

On a more serious note, we couldn’t leave Nuremberg without also visiting the Dokuzentrum, also known as the The Documentation Center Nazi Party Rallying Grounds.

And that’s a wrap for a our guide to Nuremberg, Germany. If you have any other suggestions of cool things to do in Nuremberg, feel free to share those with fellow travellers in the comments below.

This is part of our Travel in Germany video series showcasing German food, German culture and German cuisine.

BEST THINGS TO DO IN NUREMBERG GERMANY (TRAVEL GUIDE)

There are plenty of things to do in Nuremberg. In our Nuremberg Germany travel guide, we show you how to spend 24 hours exploring the best sights.

Our first stop on our Nuremberg city tour was at Zum Gulden Stern. Here we tried the original Nuremberg Röstla (grilled bratwurst). They were delicious!

After lunch, we made our way to Henkersteg (Hangman's Bridge). From the bridge we could also see Weinstadel, the famous half timbered house. Next we found Weißgerbergasse. This street is filled with beautiful half timbered houses that were owned by leathermakers.

We then made our way to Albrecht Durer's House. He was one of Germany's most famous artists. His house is located in Tiergärtnertor Square. This square is filled with red and white houses, and it's the perfect place to try Nuremberg's iconic red beer (rotbier) at Hausbrauerei Altstadthof. Not very far away from the square is the Imperial Castle of Nuremberg. We walked up the steep hill to get great views of the city of Nuremberg. After visiting Nuremberg's castle, we walked to Haupmarkt.

Hauptmarkt is Nuremberg's main market located in the Old Town. In the market area is Schöner Brunnen (Beautiful Fountain). The fountain has a gold ring that you are supposed to turn for good luck. Also in the main market is Frauenkirche, Nuremberg. The church has a mechanical clock that puts on a show at noon. While in the market, we wanted to try the famous Nuremberg gingerbread so we went to Wicklein - Die Lebküchnerei.

After the yummy gingerbread, we made our way to St. Lorenz Church (Lorenzkirche). The church houses a very large organ with 12,000 pipes. Another Nuremberg attraction to check out is the Way of Human Rights. It's an outdoor sculpture with columns that are engraved with human rights. Our last stop in Nuremberg was at Handwerkerhof Nuremberg. It's a medieval shopping village with restaurants and workshops.

Hike Near Neuhaus an der Pegnitz in Germany

All the maps in this video are licensed © OpenStreetMap contributors

We did this hike east of Neuhaus an der Pegnitz in Franconia, Bavaria, Germany.

It was the end of winter, at the beginning of March 2022, but the soil was still frozen and icicles were still on the rocks where the sun could not shine during the day.

We hiked through a karst area with a lot of caves and rock formations amongst the forest. When looking at the fields there are no visible signs of the territory configuration instead.

Walk in Nuremberg along the Pegnitz River. Nuremberg sightseeing tour. Germany Walking.

Walk around Nuremberg from the Beautiful Fountain along the Pegnitz River to Max Bridge. Nuremberg sightseeing tour. The best views of Nuremberg.

The Beautiful Fountain as we know it today was built in 1385 - 96 first by the master builder Fritz Pfintzing, after his death from 1389 by the stonemason Heinrich Behaim the Elder, called Heinrich the Barlier (Parlier roughly corresponds to a construction manager) from reed sandstone and it is located, 19 meters high, at the northwest corner of the main market.

Paint and gilding was applied by a Master Rudolf together with Konrad Kügel and Heinrich Vogel. The city treasury had to pay the total cost of about 4500 guilders.

The fountain was always a problem child of the town. Due to severe weathering, it had to be repainted in 1420, 1447, 1464, 1490 and 1540, among others. According to tradition, the workshop of Michael Wohlgemut (Albrecht Dürer's teacher) was involved in 1490. A first major restoration took place in 1540/41. After the 30-year war, the idea of demolishing the fountain was considered because of great neglect.
