We recently visited the town of Patillas, Puerto Rico, on the southeastern corner of the Island. We went there for the beaches and small town feeling and discovered other great attractions along the way.
We visited two pebble beaches, the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, the Adelina Cintrón Square, Patillas lake and a 400+ year-old ceiba tree that’s among the oldest in the world.

We visited Balneario Villa Pesquera, which is the municipal beach, Lake/Lago Patillas, hiked to thru the State Forest Carite and dipped ourselves in the beautiful Charco Azul, which is a natural pool. Visiting a hidden waterfall in the middle of the rainforest | Infinity pool, Patillas
Hiking to one of the more secluded waterfalls in Puerto Rico. the pool is located right at the top of the waterfall offering a spectacular view of the area. The hike is through a mud trail that starts right beside the road, not a difficult trail but bring good shoes or you will regret it.
the river passes through the Carite State forest nature reserve located in the Sierra de Cayey Mountain range. the forest extends over approximately 6,500 acres and is divided by the municipalities of Caguas, Cayey, Guayama, San Lorenzo and Patillas

Esta hermosa cascada está localizada en el Barrio Muñoz Rivera en la carretera PR-184 KM 12.4 Interior en las cercanías del Bosque Estatal de Carite y el Cerro Miraflores.
El acceso a esta magnífica caída de agua es de nivel sencillo ideal para toda la familia. Su tiempo estimado de caminata es de 5 a 7 minutos aproximadamente dependiendo de la agilidad de la persona.
Cuando llegas sabes que encontraste el paraíso!. Su agua y formaciones rocosas hacen de este lugar único y distintivo en Patillas tanto asi que te dejará impresionado ????.
Esta charca es bastante grande, donde la mayoría de su área es profunda, ideal para zambullirte y realizar piruetas.
En el tope de la cascada El Survivor hay otra charca enorme la cual es preciosa y perfecta para tener una experiencia inolvidable.
* Recomiendo verificar el clima antes de visitar el lugar para evitar una creciente.

Visiting a locals favorite spot | Charco el Survivor in Patillas, Puerto Rico
Surrounded by huge mountains and rainforest this is one of the most popular local spots in Patillas to take a dip and relax with nature. the river will usually have crystal clear waters and offers large rocks to jump for the more extreme. Just a few minutes away from Charco Azul on the same road perfect if the other natural pools are too crowded.

On this adventure we visit and stay with some friends at their farm in Patillas. We go to an amazing waterfall area called Tres Chorros where I slide down some rocks into the water, we visit Marin Alto Tropical Exotic Flower Farm, Charco Azul in the Carite Forest. We also see the huge ancient Ceiba Tree and in Arroyo we see the ruins of Iglesia Vieja. Patillas is amazing and I can't wait to explore more!

Esta magnífica piscina natural se localiza en el Barrio Muñoz Rivera, en las inmediaciones del Bosque Estatal de Carite. Su entrada principal queda exactamente en el kilómetro 17.9 en la carretera PR-184.
Al comienzo de la vereda notarás que todo el entorno a tu alrededor es completamente hermoso algo parecido a un paseo por el Yunque.
Para llegar al Charco Azul tendrás que realizar una caminata por una vereda pavimentada de 10 a 15 minutos. Durante la trayectoria encontrarás un sinnúmero de bellezas tales como: árboles gigantescos, el río cuando atraviesas los puentecitos, el cantar de las aves, el ambiente fresco y húmedo, el aire puro que se respira en el lugar, en fin es un edén paradisíaco.
Cuando llegas al Charco Azul es un embalse de agua muy limpia y gigantesca, conocida asi por el hermoso color de sus aguas. Este color es debido a un alga azul verdosa que por la temperatura, los minerales que existen en el agua y el pH, prolifera en algún momento del año y hace que luzca de esa tonalidad. Sin embargo, cabe aclarar que no siempre se ve de este modo.
El lugar es todo un paraíso a pesar de que sus gazebos, baños y entrada principal estén en abandono. Antes se podía realizar reservaciones para acampar, actividades etc. Pero en la actualidad desconozco si se puede hacer, ya que todo lo que pudimos apreciar se ve que no hay ninguna organización manejando el lugar.
El estacionamiento es bastante amplio y lo mejor de todo, disfrutar de este lugar es gratuito ????????!!!
