Wij zijn Pieter en Marieke en sinds 2015 varen we met onze motorboot de Canicula door Nederland. Tijdens onze eerste vaartocht door Overijssel vallen we van de ene verbazing in de andere. Over de imposante bebouwing van Vollenhove, de massieve zeesluis van Blokzijl, het dijkdorp Kuinre. Geweldig! Inmiddels zijn we bijna heel Nederland door gevaren. Om iedereen te laten zien hoe mooi Nederland is vanaf het water, maken we video's van onze vaartochten en schrijven we artikelen over wat we allemaal tegenkomen onderweg. De Canicula is een St. Tropez cabincruiser van negen meter lang, tachtig centimeter diep en ruim twee meter hoog.

Belgium Motorhome Road Trip - Part 2 - Ghent and Gravensteen
The second part of my Belgium Motorhome Road Trip takes in the beautiful and gothic city of Ghent. This is part of a 12-day route around Belgium, discovering the wonders of both Flanders and Wallonia regions. I'll stay on a range of aires and campsites.
After 2 great days in Bruges (Part 1), it was time to move on. A 30-minute drive and we arrived at Urban Gardens (previously Camping Blaarmeersen) in Ghent.
The local shuttle bus takes you directly into Ghent (or Gent as it is known locally), where I explore the city of many historic buildings and places of interest including a nighttime tour of Gravensteen, St Nicholas Church, and Graffiti Street.
This stop was a 4-night stopover that was a great base to also travel by train to Brussels and Antwerp from Ghent St Peters train station. The campsite offers both hard standing and grass pitches (which I would recommend ramps if you are staying during winter, as it was quite muddy on some pitches). There is a cafe bar, pizza truck, and many leisure facilities. This is also a great base if you are traveling with family who don't have a campervan or motorhome as they have static accommodation that you can rent out.

The last few years have been tough for us all, and after losing both my mum and more recently my grandma (who was not only my adventurous inspiration but also my travel buddy) I've had a real personal struggle with long bouts of depression and anxiety....but those who know me, know what works and that is the traveling and getting out in the fresh air. During this time, I never stopped to consider those perimenopausal symptoms may have also contributed to this, so I've taken the plunge and bought my motorhome Elaine and this is my vlog to capture my journey, through good times, bad and sad times. I'll take you go-karting down a mountain in Snowdonia, on nostalgic visits to our favourite childhood museums, to castles, coasts and historic areas of interest, bodyboarding and biking, something for everyone! I hope to be able to encourage other women to get out there and have a go! Free electricity, water, showers, toilets. Imagine if this was the norm, imagine the small towns who would benefit from the tourism? I know pubs and restaurants offer free parking and maybe a toilet, but this is next level.
