City in Italy
Chieti is a city and comune in Central Italy, 200 kilometres east by northeast of Rome. It is the capital of the province of Chieti in the Abruzzo region. In Italian, the adjectival form is teatino and inhabitants of Chieti are called teatini.
Chieti is situated a few kilometres away from the Adriatic Sea, and with the Majella and Gran Sasso mountains in the background. It is divided into the old town on the homonymous hill overlooking the Aterno-Pescara and the more recent commercial and industrial area, which is called Chieti Scalo and has developed thanks to the Chieti railway station along with the ancient layout of Via Tiburtina, in the valley of the Aterno-Pescara.

LIVING IN ITALY A memorable day in Pescara, which by the way, is not the capital of Abruzzo.
We love the train system in Italy (most of the time) and how easy it is to do day trips when we need to.
Today we traveled from Termoli to Pescara as we needed to translate some documents from English to Italian for the Italian Citizenship process.
it only took us 50 or so minutes to arrive and once we were there, it was effortless to get around as the train station is in the middle of the city, close to shops, restaurants and cafes.

Ciao e benvenuti su questo nuovo video.
Continuiamo il nostro tour dell'Abruzzo che abbiamo fatto ad Agosto 2021, questa è l'8° tappa , se vi siete persi la 1° in cui parliamo del nostro programma di viaggio vi mettiamo qui il link .
Siamo arrivati ad Ortona dopo essere letteralmente scappati dall'incendio di Pescara, e come vedrete anche qui qualche albero a bordo strada è bruciato... comunque decidiamo di fermarci vicino al parcheggio del cimitero, facendo già un breve giretto del paese in notturna.
Il mattino dopo volevamo andare a Lido Riccio, una delle spiagge più conosciute di Ortona, quindi ci spostiamo già li in zona per la notte.
Dopo tutta la mattinata in spiaggia, torniamo nel centro di Ortona e questa volta ci tocca trovare una lavanderia a gettoni perché dopo 8 giorni necessitavamo di lavare indumenti, asciugamani, ecc...
E poi non perdetevi il volo col drone che Gabry ha fatto all'alba, alzandosi alle 5:30 del mattino (e ci ha davvero stupiti), ma ne è valsa davvero la pena, anche perché dopo ci ha anche portato le brioches ????!!!!

Exploring Abruzzo - Central Italy - Majella, Ortona, Arrosticini and random exploration
Easter weekend visiting the Abruzzo region in central Italy, often forgotten and not included in the tourst beaten path. Great food, amazing snow packed mountains, incredible hillside scenary and lovely sunsets.
We drove up to the Majella mountain range, roughly 2000mt at the rifugio pomilio, then we visited Ortona and the ruins of a medieval castle. Did some cooking using local products like arrosticini.

Castello aragonese (Italian for Aragon Castle) is a Renaissance castle in Ortona, Province of Chieti (Abruzzo).[1]
The first building dates back to 1492. The Aragonese family built it over the old Caldora structure of the 14th century. This structure, however, dates back to the 13th century Anglican era. According to the same hypothesis, Giacomo Cavuto could have strengthened the castle that could have been pre-existent. In the 15th century there were some adaptations and partial reconstructions of a pre-existing plant.[2]
The castle was defensive until the 17th century when it was bought by the Baglioni family as a noble residence. A gentile palace was built inside the walls, which in the 19th century fell abandoned. Since then the castle was used as a workshop and powder.[3] In 1943 during the Battle of Ortona, the castle was hit by German bombs and American grenades. The gunpowder stored inside made the structure explode, all over the top of the walls and the noble palace skyrocketed. In '46 a landslide destroyed almost half of the castle, the one facing the sea from the tuff cliff.
Architecture
The base is almost trapezoidal and it is characterized by four cylindrical corner towers (though only three have survived today) and curtains on a scarp. The west side was occupied by a residential building. Some photos of the early 1900s show the baron-like palace inside the 18th-century walls, reworked by the fortification control room.
Today the palace remains a piece of perimeter wall with decorations of the frame. The walls have a shoe plant, with two large circular towers placed on the side of Matteotti course, from where it is accessed today. The towers are typical of the period, because they have the largest shoe base, and the cylindrical central body with Gothic arch windows (those of the west tower are rectangular). On the west wall there is also a third smaller, always cylindrical tower, with an arched, arched window. The pavement of the base of the entrance side, with arcades on the masonry of the castle, makes it clear that the structure had a ditch of water.
The interior is accessible from a small garden bordering the walls, and from a ladder above the remains of a side tower. The interior is bare due to the destruction of the war and has been rehabilitated in the garden, with retaining the walls to the entrance side of the Matteott course. In fact, there are stairs leading to the basement of the castle, while a second staircase leads to the Museum of the West Tower: there are panels of the historical photos of the castle and furnishings of the noble families that possessed the structure.

Ortona is a port city in the Italian province of Chieti with 22,000 inhabitants and is located on the Adriatic coast about 22 kilometers southeast of the city of Pescara.
A massive citadel from the time of the Kingdom of Naples protects the historic old town, which is located in a protected area above the port.
The Castello Aragonese is a lowlands on the outskirts of Ortona in the province of Chieti with a view of the sea.
The first building dates from 1492. The Aragonians had it built on the old walls of the Caldora family from the 14th century. In 1943, during the Battle of Ortona, the castle was hit by German bombs and American grenades. The shooting powder stored in it let the system explode and so the entire upper part of the walls and the nobility palace flew into the air. In 1946, a landslide destroyed almost half of the castle, which protruded into the sea on a tuff cliff. His name goes back to the founders of the castle, which came from the busy Spanish family of rule of Aragon.
Nevertheless, it is rightly part of Italy's cultural heritage.
