Oradea, Crișana, Romania - gateway to Central and Western Europe
Oradea is the capital city of Bihor County and Crișana region, is one of the important centers of economic, social and cultural development in the western part of Romania, retaining these characteristics throughout history. The city is nestled between the hills that separate and unify in a harmonious way with plain Crișana. Located on the banks of Crișul Repede River, that divides the city into almost equal halves, it is the gateway to Central and Western Europe. The city is located in the north-west of Romania.
Located about 10 km from Borș, the most important crossing point on the west border with Hungary, Oradea ranks tenth in size among Romanian cities; it covers an area of 11,556 hectares. The city is at an altitude of 126 m above sea level, in the opening of the Criș valley and the plain area, in an area of contact between the extensions of the Apuseni Mountains and the extended plain Crișana-Banat. It lies as the area of transition from relief hills, to the Pannonian plain. City topoclimatic action is determined by the prevailing Western winds. Climate is Temperate Continental, with some oceanic influences.

Hi everybody! Guess where we are now? Ha ha, we got absolutely inspired by Bulgaria. So this morning without planning so much, we just took the bridge that connects Bulgaria (Vidin) to Romania (Calafat) and we crossed it! We are in Romania, guys!
What to do in Orșova?
Orșova is ancient and full of history. It seemed to us a quiet and nice city to relax in. Most sites on the Internet consider it only as a starting point to enjoy the surroundings but barely talk about Orșova itself.
In our opinion, Orșova can be a nice stop for a day trip or for relaxing for a complete weekend. You can easily spend a day here and explore the surroundings the very next day or vice versa. There’s accommodation available in the city and it’s cheaper than the one you can get in the surroundings (along the Danube). The city has a quiet vibe that for sure gets a bit more vibrant and noisy during the high season.
The attractions in the city that we enjoyed the most were the promenade and the park.
Chipuil Lui Decebal or the Face of Decebalus.
Yes, guys! We got it! Finally, we managed to reach our original goal and it felt very nice. The head is impressive just like the landscape that frames it. The view can’t be better, the Danube plus the Carpathian Mountains, and the carved face on the rock of Decebalus.
The creation of the head was Iosif Constantin Dragan’s idea. He directly financed it and Florin Cotarcea was the artist who made it. It’s 25 meters wide and 40.5 meters high, and it’s located close to the Mraconia Bay, 18 kilometers away from Orșova. Check your map and it’s between Eșelnița and Dubova. Something we discovered is that the head is not ancient like other historical treasures in the area. Its construction started in 1994 and it was finished in 2004. Yes, Florin Cotarcea worked 10 years directing the carving with the assistance of at least a dozen of climbers and a ton of dynamite for modeling. Under the head, you will see this inscription: “Decebalus
Rex – Dragan done” (king Decebalus – made by Dragan).
Decebalus was the last king of Dacia. He defended the independence of his country (the current territory of Romania) from Trajan and Domitian, both Roman emperors.
Guys, we looked long for finding the rocky face of Decebalus. When we found it we felt very happy. We visited it in daylight and at night! As we told you before, you can reach this place by boat or by car.

The Blue Danube River in Romania at Orșova
Orșova is located in southwestern Romania, in Mehedinți County, on the spot where the Cerna River meets the Danube River. Orșova is a port town on the Danube River, just above the Iron Gates. The old town was flooded in 1970 in order to build the two hydroelectric power stations named Iron Gates, a joint Romanian-Yugoslavian project started in 1964. The town was rebuilt on the present location between 1966 and 1971 and the population was displaced here. Orșova offers a beautiful scenery of the blue Danube River, the natural border between Romania and Serbia. The Danube River rises in the Black Forest mountains of western Germany, passes through 10 countries in Central and Southeastern Europe (Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine) and flows to its mouth on the Black Sea. With its course of 2,850 km, The Danube is the second-longest river in Europe, after the Volga in Russia.
The Danube was once a part of the system of the Frontiers of the Roman Empire, the largest single monument built by one of the most influential civilizations in human history, stretching on three continents at a length of more than 7000 km.
The Danube is the only river in the world passing through four capital cities, Vienna, Budapest, Belgrade and Bratislava which are the largest cities on the river. There are more capital cities lying in the Danube's basin: Bucharest, Sofia, Zagreb, Ljubljana and Sarajevo. Munich, the capital of Bavaria, also lies in the Danube's basin.

Dubova is also known for its thermal baths, which are located in the town and are known for their healing properties. The thermal baths are fed by the hot springs of the Danubian boilers, which are a series of geothermal springs located in the region. The Danubian boilers are known for their high mineral content and are believed to have therapeutic properties. They are a popular tourist destination and are visited by people seeking natural remedies for a variety of ailments.
We spent three nights in this small Paradise. The view is fantastic and Dubova is that place that makes you want to come back.

Am mers pe cel mai spectaculos traseu - CAZANELE DUNARII [S1 - Eps.20]

In acest episod am mers pe probabil unul dintre cele mai spectaculoase trasee, si anume Cazanele Dunarii. Acest loc in care muntele se intalneste cu Dunarea iti ofera niste peisaje unice, fascinante, ce atrag anual mii de turisti din toata lumea. Tot acolo am vizitat si Chipul lui Decebal, cea mai inalta sculptura in piatra din Europa.
Am plecat din Lugoj, apoi am trecut prin Orsova iar de aici a inceput spectacolul naturii :) Nu spun mai multe, va las pe voi sa vizionati episodul si sa admirati aceste peisaje desprinse parca dintr-o poveste.
Traseul meu a fost urmatorul: Lugoj-Caransebes-Orsova-Dubova. Am parcurs o distanta de aproximativ 160 km.

Orsova
Orsova is a municipality in the County, Banat, Romania. It is located on the shore of Iron Gate I reservoir on the Danube, near the estuary of the Danube River Cerna. At the 2002 census, the city population was 12,967 inhabitants.
Following the completion of Iron Gate reservoir, the old hearth of the city was flooded in 1970, its population was moved to a new location, including the Danube terraces and Cerna Mountains and the southern slope Almaj, where he built a city completely new (1966-1971), which also incorporated villages Jupalnic, scrub and Coramnic.
Places nearby: Drobeta Turnu Severin, Craiova 35 km to the village about 8 km TOPLET the way to Timisoara, Eselnita village 5 km to Moldova Noua. Across the Danube in Serbia, is Tekija city.

Vimos paisajes de Serbia, al ser el río una frontera natural entre ese país y Rumania.
