Jackson, officially the City of Jackson, is the capital and most populous city of the U.S. State of Mississippi. It is one of two county seats of Hinds County, along with Raymond, Mississippi. The city of Jackson also includes around 3,000 acres (12.1 km2) comprising Jackson-Medgar Evers International Airport in Rankin County and a small portion of Madison County. The city has a population of 153,701 as of the 2020 census, down from 173,514 from the 2010 census. Jackson's population declined more between 2010 and 2020 (11.42%) than any major city in the United States.[5] The city sits on the Pearl River and is located in the greater Jackson Prairie region of Mississippi.

Founded in 1821 as the site for a new state capital, the city is named after General Andrew Jackson, who was honored for his role in the Battle of New Orleans during the War of 1812 and would later serve as U.S. president. Following the nearby Battle of Vicksburg in 1863 during the American Civil War, Union forces under the command of General William Tecumseh Sherman began the Siege of Jackson and the city was subsequently burned.

During the 1920s, Jackson surpassed Meridian to become the most populous city in the state following a speculative natural gas boom in the region. The current slogan for the city is The City with Soul. It has had numerous musicians prominent in blues, gospel, folk, and jazz.

Jackson is the anchor for the Jackson, Mississippi Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is the state's 2nd largest metropolitan area, because four counties in northern Mississippi are part of the Memphis metropolitan area. With a 2019 population estimated at 595,000, metropolitan Jackson is home to about one-fifth of Mississippi's population.

Downtown Louisville, Kentucky: A Complete Tour

Downtown Louisville has several things to go do and see, whether it's checking out the museums along Museum Row, or visiting the Muhammed Ali Center. If you're a bourbon lover, Louisville should be on your bucket list as you can find several distilleries in not only the city, but obviously in areas not too far south and east of the city as well. Baseball diehards will love the Louisville Slugger museum and factory!

This Might Be The Best Area In All Of Louisville.

This video will go through a part of town that has the Louisville Zoo, Bellarmine University, The Louisville Seminary and Seneca Park. Most of the neighborhoods in this section of the city are upper middle class, such as Deer Park, Highlands Douglass and Audubon Park. The area that I go through for this video is also pretty safe as crime is kept to a minimum.

A Trashy Louisville Suburb: Shively, Kentucky

Shively has a history of being home to many bourbon distilleries, however most of them have left over time. Today, it's a suburb with low home values and low performing public schools. Property crime is high, and home values are low. It's not the worst place, but it's also not the best.

Louisville's South End: Valley Station & Pleasure Ridge Park 5K.

Both Valley Station and Pleasure Ridge Park make up the extreme southwestern part of Louisville, otherwise known as the South End. There's not much excitement to this part of town, as it's full of brick ranch residential subdivisions. All of the amenities are off of Dixie Highway, which seemingly offers nothing more than cheap retail and fast food chains.

HISTORIC ABERDEEN, MISSISSIPPI | Abandoned Hotel, Elkin Theater & Small Town Americana Relics

An ABANDONED Southwest Detroit Neighborhood: Delray, Detroit, Michigan 5K.

Once upon a time, Delray was a diverse neighborhood that was home to many immigrant factory workers. Today, Delray is one of Detroit's saddest looking neighborhoods. The construction of the Gordie Howe International Bridge tore up a good chunk of what used to be Delray. The Historic Fort Wayne still stands along the Detroit River at least. Several of Delray's older churches are still standing too, but for how long?

Civil War-Corinth and Shiloh

It was a cold, rainy day when we visited two Civil War Battlefields…Corinth, MS and Shiloh, TN. Appropriate weather for a sobering experience. It certainly gives us a perspective we didn’t experience in our high school history class!
I hope you get a chance to explore some of these sites. It’s totally worth the trip!
