Hope you enjoy our day trip in Okayama city, where we visit one of the best gardens in Japan, check out Okayama Castle, go shopping, try matcha beer and just explore our prefectures capital city! Okayama's Korakuen Garden is one of the top 3 Japanese gardens in all of Japan, and just possibly the best?
Even though we went in the off season right in between summer and fall, we loved it and can definitely see why it earns that title. It was definitely one of the best things to do in Okayama and a must see on any day trip. In our opinion, Okayama is an extremely underrated city that often gets overlooked by it neighbours Osaka and Hiroshima. It may not be as big or touristy but it is beautiful, friendly and more relaxed! We live about 1 hour away from the city, and are looking forward to spending more time here.

Okayama Korakuen Garden ???? One of The Three Great Gardens of Japan
Okayama is the capital city of Okayama Prefecture in Japan. It's the largest city in the Chugoku Region after Hiroshima.
Korakuen Garden is considered one of the three great gardens in Japan, along with Kanazawa City’s Kenrokuen and Mito City’s Kairakuen. It was built about 300 years ago by the local feudal lord, Ikeda Tsunamasa. The garden has retained most of its original appearance across the Edo period (1603-1868). It has earned a 3-star rating from Michelin Green Guide.
We didn't have time to stop, but Okayama Castle is across the river from Korakuen Garden. The castle was destroyed during World War II. It was rebuilt and reconstructed in 1966.
