The Ruhr Park is a shopping center in Bochum . It is one of the largest in Germany. As the Ruhr-Park on November 14, 1964 in the quarter Harpen was opened, it was after the Main-Taunus-Zentrum in Sulzbach the second shopping center in Germany and a novelty for the young Federal Republic.
At the beginning, the shopping center had 24,000 m² of rental space, which was partly available for large department stores and partly for smaller specialist shops. The Ruhr-Park shopping center on the approx. 254,000 m² large property in Bochum with meanwhile 125,000 m² rental space (of which 71,500 m² sales area) and an estimated goods turnover in 2013 of around 243 million euros is one of the largest shopping centers in Germany . Around 2,500 employees work in the approximately 140 shops; 4,800 free parking spaces are available to customers.
The founder of the Ruhr-Park shopping center was the investor Edward J. Roberts, who sold the center to Westdeutsche ImmobilienBank in 1978 . Since 1 October 2010, the Perella Weinberg Real Estate Fund is the owner of the Ruhr Park, which is managed by Unibail-Rodamco Germany .
The Ruhr Park is located outside the city center and has plenty of parking space. At the time of the construction of the Ruhr Park, the first pedestrian zones in the surrounding inner cities were created, which made the city area more attractive, but also more difficult to access. All this sparked fears in the retail sector, which feared lost sales through the greenfield mall at its other sites. Nevertheless, this concept is still groundbreaking for many other shopping centers in Germany.
The restaurant area Via Bartolo was opened in October 2001. 13 gastronomy concepts are arranged in a ring around a central square - with dining tables and seating groups (about 280 seats) - and are supposed to invite to a gastronomic world tour, offering dishes from different countries. The dining area is loosened up by a seasonal decoration with plants and sculptures.
After a reconstruction from 2011 to 2015, the Ruhr-Park was reopened on 4 November 2015, including the new Südmall, and now has a leasable area of 115,000 m². With the nearby motorways A 40 and A 43 , the shopping center is well connected to the road network, which contributed, for example, to the settlement of the cinema complex UCI . Duisburg, about 25km west of Essen, is home to Europe’s largest inland port, the immensity of which is best appreciated on a boat tour. Embarkation is at the Schwanentor, which is also the gateway to the Innenhafen Duisburg (inner harbour), an urban quarter with a mix of modern and restored buildings infused with museums, restaurants, bars, clubs and attractions set up in the old storage silos.
Duisburg is a German city in the western part of the Ruhr area (Ruhrgebiet) in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is a metropolitan borough with a population of just under 500,000. Since the late 19th century, the city is renowned for its steel industry, being Central Europe's leading site in this sector. All seven blast furnaces in the Ruhr are now located in Duisburg, producing half of the pig iron and a third of the crude steel made in Germany. Coal-mining, on the other hand, has never played the big role it had in other places on the Ruhr. As Germany's heavy industries have lost importance since the mid-20th century (due to the rise of plastics and relocation of production to low-wage countries), Duisburg had to go through a major structural transformation, losing tens of thousands of jobs in the steel mills while creating new ones in the services and logistics sectors.
Duisburg-Ruhrort, on the confluence of rivers Ruhr and Rhine, has long been and still is Europe's biggest inland harbour. It has successfully kept up with the times, replacing its facilities for break bulk and dry bulk cargo in favour of container shipping and modern logistics infrastructure as well as minimising the average laytime of ships from more than a day to only a few hours. Duisburg also aims to be the terminal of a New Silk Road, offering direct freight train links from China. The University of Duisburg-Essen, with 42,000 students, ranks among the 10 largest German universities.

The town of Werden, which is now a suburb of Essen, is exceptional because very few old buildings survived anywhere else in the heavily industrialised (and bombed) Ruhr area but, compared to other ‘old towns’, it is nothing special.
Small but definitely worth seeing. Small pedestrian street , no traffic jams, cozy restaurants and bakeries. Place where you can relax and enjoy. Cozy little town at the Ruhr. Nice local center with many small shops, boutiques and restauarnts. Enjoy the lively scenary during saturday morning at the farmers market between the Basilika and Folkwang University.
The atmosphere is delightfully romantic, the architecture outstandingly impressive, feel yourself transported into another century. There are some nice half-timbered houses.

The Hohensyburg , also called Sigiburg or Syburg , is located on the Syberg above the confluence of Ruhr and Lenne in the artificially created Hengsteysee in the southern district of Syburg in Dortmund . The Hohensyburg is a popular destination. Nearby are since 1952 the natural stage Hohensyburg and since 1985 additionally the casino Hohensyburg . The area is designated and protected as a nature reserve Ruhrsteilhänge Hohensyburg . The Syburg Mining Route opens up relics of modern mining.
Stone Age finds prove the early presence of humans in the Syburger area and first traces of settlement lead into the Bronze Age around 700 BC. The first written mention dates from the year 775, when according to the Lorsch Annals the Frankish army of Charlemagne conquered the Saxon Sigiburg and used this as a defensive system against the Saxons . The resident Falen were a (western) Saxon tribal group. The Hohensyburg also got an important function for the Christianization of the Teutons. The castle crew and Widukind were expelled by Charlemagne. According to a ChristianQuelle should have helped him a miracle to conquer the castle.

On the Hohensyburg is the Vincketurm , an octagonal, neo-gothic and 26 meter high lookout tower. It was built in 1857 on the highest point of the Syberg ( 244.63 m above sea level ) in memory of the former Chief President of Westphalia Ludwig von Vincke (1774-1844). The honor Vinckes was due to great merit for the establishment of Westphalia after the French rule during the Département Ruhr . The tower is made of Ruhr sandstone .

On the Emscher and Ruhr rivers (tributaries of the Rhine), it lies in the Rhine-Ruhr Metropolitan Region and is considered the administrative, commercial, and cultural center of the eastern Ruhr. Dortmund is the second-largest city in the Low German dialect area after Hamburg.
Founded around 882, Dortmund became an Imperial Free City. Throughout the 13th to 14th centuries, it was the chief city of the Rhine, Westphalia, and the Netherlands Circle of the Hanseatic League. During the Thirty Years' War, the city was destroyed and decreased in significance until the onset of industrialization. The city then became one of Germany's most important coal, steel and beer centers. Dortmund consequently was one of the most heavily bombed cities in Germany during World War II. The devastating bombing raids of 12 March 1945 destroyed 98% of buildings in the inner city center.
The region has adapted since the collapse of its century-long steel and coal industries and shifted to high-technology biomedical technology, micro systems technology, and also services. Dortmund was classified as a Node city in the Innovation Cities Index published by 2thinknow, ranked among the twelve innovation cities in European Union[6] and is the most sustainable and digital city in Germany. Other key sectors include retail, leisure and the visitor economy, creative industries, and logistics. With its central station and airport, the -busiest airport in North Rhine-Westphalia, Dortmund is an important transport junction, especially for the surrounding Ruhr area as well as Europe (Benelux countries), and with the largest canal port in Europe it has a connection to important seaports on the North Sea.
Dortmund is home to many cultural and educational institutions, including the Technical University of Dortmund and Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts, International School of Management and other educational, cultural and administrative facilities with over 49,000 students, many museums, such as Museum Ostwall, Museum of Art and Cultural History, German Football Museum, as well as theatres and music venues like the Konzerthaus or the Opera House of Dortmund. Nearly half the municipal territory consists of waterways, woodland, agriculture and green spaces with spacious parks such as Westfalenpark and Rombergpark. This stands in a stark contrast with nearly a hundred years of extensive coal mining and steel milling in the past. Borussia Dortmund is one of the most successful German football clubs.

Wir besuchen auch das weltweit erste und einzige Lichtkunstmuseum. Es liegt im Stadtkern von Unna und entführt dich in eine unterirdische Lichtwelt.
Last but not Least: Kokerei Hansa. Bei einer Führung lernst du viel über den Kokerei-Betrieb, die Zusammenhänge mit dem Kohleabbau im gesamten Ruhrgebiet und schaust hinter die Kulissen der damaligen Arbeit.

Recklinghausen is the northernmost city in the Ruhr-Area and the capital of the Recklinghausen district. It borders the rural Münsterland and is characterized by large fields and farms in the north and industry in the south.
Recklinghausen is home to a museum of icons, which includes more than 1,000 Orthodox works from Russia, Greece, and the Balkan countries, as well as early Coptic Christian art from Egypt. The icon museum - the largest outside the Orthodox world - was founded in 1956 and reopened after renovation in February 2006 for its 50th anniversary.

In this video I will take you on a tour through Landscape Park Duisburg Nord on a sunny winter day in 2020. Landschaftspark Nord in Duisburg(Western Germany) is an abandoned coal and steel production site that is now functioning as a memorial park. This beautiful memorial park in Western Germany (Duisburg), called Landschaftspark Nord (Landscape Park Duisburg Nord), is divided into different areas, whose borders were carefully developed by looking at existing conditions of the plant. Landschaftspark at Duisburg Nord had a clear intention of using the site to develop its program. Within this context, each programmatic element is given a specific identity that illustrates time, while showing change in different ways. Each visitor is allowed to experience the park in their own way and create their own story. I am going up till the top of one plant and slowing down several times to show you even finer aspects. I hope you can relax and enjoy this walk in Duisburg, Landschaftspark Nord.

Essen, Germany - the historic synagogue (The Old Synagogue, Alte Synagoge) in Essen, Germany. Let's go inside this cultural meeting center and memorial in the city of Essen in Germany. It is located in the center of the city and the memorial center was founded in 1980 and is accommodated in the pre-war Jewish community's synagogue.
The Old Synagogue (German: Alte Synagoge) in Essen is one of the largest, best preserved and architecturally most impressive testimonies to Jewish culture in pre-war Germany. Built in the centre of the city, the Byzantine style former Synagogue was originally consecrated as the Neue Synagoge in 1913, and is now an institution dedicated to documenting and promoting the history of former Jewish community of the city.
After being severely damaged in Kristallnacht in 1938 but avoiding further bomb damage, the burnt out interior was completely redesigned to become a Museum of Industrial design in 1960, and then restored to something like its original appearance in the 1980s when it began its new role as a memorial centre and museum.
