Join us as we spend another day exploring Florida's Nature Coast. In this video, we'll be your travel guide as we depart Rogers Park and paddle up (and down) the Weeki Wachee River in Spring Hill Florida. We'll show you the good and the bad of our day on the Weeki Wachee, as we encounter two manatees, hundreds of (EVIL) yellow flies, and even big foot.
Along the way, we'll also explain how to access the river via kayak or paddleboard both at Weeki Wachee Springs State Park and Rogers County Park. Stay tuned to the end as we wrap up our day by visiting a great local brewery and explaining how you can best avoid the evil yellow flies.

The mermaids of Weeki Wachee Springs State Park have delighted visitors since 1947. Today, visitors can still witness the magic of the mermaids, take a river boat cruise and canoe or kayak on the Weeki Wachee River. The 538-acre park features a first magnitude spring and a 400-seat submerged theater for watching the live mermaid show.

Weeki Wachee is known for kayaking its beautiful waters. As it should be! That’s actually one of our favorite Florida activities we’ve ever done. But today we explore a different side of Weeki Wachee - we find a beautiful park with a beach and some breweries in nearby Spring Hill, Florida.

EXPLORE BUCCANEER BAY | Weeki Wachee Springs State Park, Florida
Located about an hour north of Tampa Bay, Weeki Wachee is known as the City of Mermaids.
While we were not in the area to visit any finned-friends, Weeki Wachee is also known for its many beautiful fresh water springs. We made a stop at Buccaneer Bay in Weeki Wachee Springs State Park. It is a waterpark built on a freshwater spring.
The park was cool. It kind of felt like we took a step back in time upon entering. The park was very affordable - only $13 for adults, $8 for children 6 - 12, and free for children 5 and below!
Entering Weeki Wachee Springs State Park gives you access to many things; mermaid shows, trails, river boat rides, and refreshments. But we spent our entire stay at Buccaneer Bay, the waterpark.
At Buccaneer Bay, there are waterslides, a kiddie area, lazy river, man-made beach area, bar and confession areas, and my favorite spot where we spent most of our time was just the open fresh water spring/pool area. It felt good to swim around, and act like a kid again. Since it is a spring, the water if shockingly cold but refreshing. One thing to note is that if you plan on going on the lazy river or the waterslides that require tubes, you must pay $7 to rent tubes in addition to the park admission. We ended up not renting tubes, but instead went down one of the body slides... and it was quite abrupt!
If you're already in the area, I'd recommend swinging by and checking Buccaneer Bay & Weeki Wachee Springs State Park out. It made for a short little Florida day trip!

On the way back from Weeki Wachee to Tampa Bay, we ate at a delicious restaurant called Capt'n Jack's Waterfront Grille in Tarpon Springs in which I also recommend if your swinging by from the Tampa Bay area!

As for the footage, I recently purchased a dome for our (also recently purchased) GoPro Hero9 Black. This was only our second time using the dome and I'm super happy with how the footage came out. The dome is what allows us to capture the water line and above/below water shots. The link the the specific dome we have is below. And as far as the GoPro Hero9, I'm in love. It is the most stable, vivid, auditable, little thing I've ever used. Definitely glad I purchased it... a major upgrade form the 7. Right now, they're doing a bundle on GoPro's site, so that is also linked below!

Paddleboard Places went back to Weeki Wachee Springs FL, but this time we launched from Roger's Park instead of the state park. Roger's is a great place to launch to head upstream and see the amazing sights of this beautiful spring. We saw tons of fish, birds, and a manatee that liked showing off for us. You'll love the quiet, tropical paradise of Weeki Wachee from a whole new perspective. Rent kayaks or paddle boards and go to Roger's Park for an amazing adventure!
