10 Crap Towns in England
What are the crap towns in England? The name England evokes pride, and living in England on its own, in the UK for that matter, is something to be proud of. However, it is not all English towns that you can and should be proud of. Some places are considered ‘crap towns’ in England. Please note that this position doesn’t originate from us. It is from observation of those living in those towns in England and those who have visited. And those who are living in these towns agree that theirs are among the worst towns to live in England. Yet, we can’t find any ground to refute their position based on our private findings. In this video, you will see the towns that folks refer to as the 10 ‘crap towns’ in England.
10. Blackburn
We open this discussion in a large industrial town of Blackburn located in Lancashire. It’s north of the West Pennine Moors and on the southern edge of the Ribble Valley. Blackburn is just 8 miles east of Preston and also 20 miles northwest of Manchester. The mere consideration of its location alone could give some people an idea of the reason for its being labeled as one of the ‘crap towns’ in England.
Beyond that, however, pieces of ratings Blackburn is been given in this recent past are bad. Not long ago, the author of a popular report named it one of the most segregated towns in Britain. We dare add that the tough riot is one of the results of idleness, wants, and general dissatisfaction with life reflected in how people throng turn to street begging. You’ll see youngsters bunking off school and harassing passersby for money to be used in buying a cheeseburger.
9. Oldham
Not many people will expect this old town of Oldham which is also the administrative and authority center of the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham to be described as a ‘crap town.’ But what does the reality on the ground portray about this large town in Greater Manchester? It shows that the town which is about 5 miles southeast of Rochdale and 6 miles northeast of Manchester is actually one of the worst towns to live in the UK. Don’t let us relate want we ourselves have found.
Some feel that the town lacks all culture and sophistication that can be emulated.
8. Castleford
“A trip to Castleford is a real eye-opener . . . and you need to keep your eyes open because if you dare to close them, they’d have your wallet faster than you could say” said a voter who voted Castleford one of the ‘crap town’ in the UK. Coming back home in England, a town with this recognition is certainly one of the crap towns in England. This town in the City of Wakefield within the county of West Yorkshire has always got bad reviews whenever it is to be discussed.
This low standard in this town may be due in part to its being a town of kith and kin. Sentimental attachments to relationships are likely to come in the way of standardization and adherence to the due process. This Wakefield’s largest town was also rued thus “you have to wonder whether the essence of chavdom stems from bad breeding, or in the case of Castleford, possible interbreeding.”
7. Blackpool
It might take a while before Blackpool get itself off a list like this. It is a consensus member in the rank of the ‘crap towns’ in the UK. We have also seen it mentioned in several lists of the worst towns to live in England and the UK. Blackpool is also on and off of lists of the most depressing towns to live in the UK. Why then is it still boasting of being the entertainment capital of the North it claims to be when a stratum of the society actually sees it as one of the most boring places to live in the UK?
A reviewer said of this town: “While in Blackpool all you smell is weed, McDonald's, KFC - you may think it's a jolly seaside resort with candy floss and donkeys but it's a scum-bucket for the transients who come here to draw benefits in a holiday resort instead of in an inner city.” Is that not what you would expect of a place described as a ‘crap town’ in England?

10 Worst Seaside Resort Towns in The UK
What are the worst seaside resorts in the UK? Anyone leaving home to spend some time at a resort is going with high expectations. There are tons of things to do at seaside resorts. However, it’s not all seaside resorts that live up to their designation. Some of them could be better described as anything else but resorts. Some of these pseudo-seaside resorts are there in the UK. We hereby present to you the 10 worst seaside resorts in the UK.
After considering each of them, the choice is yours to patronize them or steer clear of them. These seaside resorts in the UK were rated based on several features that are expected in seaside resorts and they were weighted over 100 points. The following are the scores.
10. Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset, England
Burnham-on-Sea is a seaside town located in Somerset, England. You would be fair to this place at the mouth of the Parrett River, upon Bridgwater Bay, if you reckon with it as a fishing village or town, for the sake of respect, that it used to be until the late 1700s when it began to grow.
While the park at Burnham-on-Sea was lovely with clean facilities and lots of activities, the resort could not score more than 48 points. The onsite pizza costs too much; you need a 10-minute walk to get a better deal. Most of the accommodation here is caravans without heating in the bedrooms. The bedding quality of the rooms is begging to be upgraded.
9. Colwyn Bay, Conwy, Wales
Colwyn Bay, a town and community in Conwy County Borough cannot escape our attention. Conwy is on the north coast of Wales where it is overlooking the Irish Sea. The town of Colwyn Bay is recognized as a seaside resort within the historic county of Denbighshire, no doubt. But what is in doubt is the quality of the resort. From what we know Colwyn Bay can’t earn more than 58 points.
Yes, the clean rooms, the security, and proximity to the North Wales Expressway, the railway station, and the beach count for something. However, the services were generally poor. The rooms are freezing without a heater and electrical fittings including plumbing were not being maintained. The food options were zero.
8. Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England
Then next is Great Yarmouth. Joining them in removing the prefix “great,” let’s comfortably join in referring to it by just Yarmouth which is more fitting than Great Yarmouth. In any case, it is recognized as a seaside resort town in Norfolk, there in England. Straddling the River Yare, it is located 30 kilometers east of Norwich.
As a seaside resort, Yarmouth ties with its more neighborly Burnham-on-Sea and Colwyn Bay in Wales to score 58. Though it has sandy beaches and two historic piers, amusement rides, and restaurants, Yarmouth as Norfolk’s flagship beach town is always crammed. Holidaymakers during the summertime suffer disorderliness here as if there are more services than the management could handle in an organized manner.
7. Morecambe, Lancashire, England
Morecambe is a town in the City of Lancaster in Lancashire, England. It’s hard to understand why Morecambe is still being referred to as a seaside resort. Up until the mid-20th century, it was a thriving seaside resort. Then it was home to the country’s largest Pontins resort.

Tynemouth is a town and a historic borough in Tyne and Wear, England at the mouth of the River Tyne. Historically part of Northumberland, the modern town of Tynemouth includes North Shields and Cullercoats. Its history dates back to an Iron Age settlement and its strategic position on a headland over-looking the mouth of the Tyne continued to be important through to the Second World War. Its historic buildings, dramatic views and award-winning beaches attract visitors from around the world. The heart of the town, known by residents as The village, has popular coffee-shops, pubs and restaurants. It is a prosperous area with comparatively expensive housing stock, ranging from Georgian terraces to Victorian ship-owners' houses to 1960s executive homes. It is represented at Westminster by the Labour MP Alan Campbell.
The queens of Edward I and Edward II stayed in the Castle and Priory while their husbands were campaigning in Scotland. King Edward III considered it to be one of the strongest castles in the Northern Marches. After the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314, Edward II fled from Tynemouth by ship. A village had long been established in the shelter of the fortified Priory and c. 1325 the Prior built a port for fishing and trading. This led to a dispute between Tynemouth and the more powerful Newcastle over shipping rights on the Tyne which continued for centuries. Prince Rupert of the Rhine landed at Tynemouth in August 1642 on his way to fight in the English Civil War.
In the late 18th century, sea-bathing became fashionable in Tynemouth from its east-facing beaches. King Edward's Bay and Tynemouth Longsands are very popular with locals and tourists alike. Prior's Haven is a small beach within the mouth of the Tyne, sheltered between the Priory and the Spanish Battery, with the Pier access on its north side. It was popular with Victorian bathers[8] and is now home to Tynemouth Rowing Club and the local sailing club.
King Edward's Bay (possibly a reference to Edward II) is a small beach on the north side of the Priory, sheltered on three sides by cliffs and reached by stairways, or, by the fit and adventurous who understand the weather and tides, over the rocks round the promontories on the north or south sides. Longsands is the next beach to the north, an expanse of fine sand 1200 yards long, lying between the former Tynemouth outdoor swimming pool and Cullercoats to the north.
A lighthouse was built on the North Pier in 1864, but when the pier had to be rebuilt to a new design a new lighthouse was required. The work was undertaken by Trinity House, beginning in 1903; the lighthouse was finished before the pier itself, and was first lit on 15 January 1908. It remains in use today. Before the pier was built, a lighthouse stood within the grounds of Tynemouth Priory and Castle. It was demolished in 1898-99. It stood on the site of the now-disused Coastguard Station.

South Shields is a coastal town at the mouth of the River Tyne, England, about 4.84 miles downstream from Newcastle upon Tyne. South Shields is part of the metropolitan borough of South Tyneside which includes the towns of Jarrow and Hebburn. South Shields is represented in Parliament by Labour MP Emma Lewell-Buck.
South Shields is situated in a peninsula setting, where the River Tyne meets the North Sea. South Shields has six miles of coastline and three miles of river frontage, dominated by the massive North and South Piers at the mouth of the Tyne. These are best viewed from the Lawe Top, which also houses two replicas of cannon captured from the Russians during the Crimean War.
As well as being the oldest and largest town in South Tyneside, South Shields is also one of the region's most popular seaside resorts. The area markets itself as Catherine Cookson Country, which attracts many visitors. Further improvements and developments to the seafront are planned.

South Shields has also become the home of the South Tyneside Magic Festival, an annual event created by Martin Duffy, and supported by the local council, The Custom House Theatre, the local magic shop Magic Box, and numerous local and national independent investors. The festival was started in 2004 incorporates magic in the community - magicians perform in schools, libraries and aged persons homes during the week as well as public gala shows at the Customs House. The culmination of the week is the Magic Convention - 3 days of lectures and shows by the world's best magicians.

A Tour of Tynemouth 4K- Things to do Places to See
This 4K Video tour of Tynemouth will show you the beautiful coastal village in North East England in North Tyneside. It is home to the historic Tynemouth Priory dating back to the 7th century and Tynemouth Castle which was built to protect it.

North Shields Fish Quay is a fishing port located close to the mouth of the River Tyne, in North Shields, Tyne and Wear, North East England, 8 miles (13 km) east of the city of Newcastle upon Tyne.
The quay began life in 1225 as a simple village of shielings (seasonal huts used by hunters or fishermen) around the Pow Burn (stream or river); the town of North Shields takes its name from the shielings. The quay was originally located here to serve the nearby Tynemouth Castle and Priory. The original site is largely derelict industrial land currently being redeveloped, which lately belonged to the original Tyne Brand canning company. The Pow Burn runs from nearby Northumberland Park and disappears underground at Tynemouth Road and the Metro urban transport line, eventually flowing into the Tyne.
The growth of North Shields was at one time restricted due to fear that it would take trade from neighbouring Newcastle upon Tyne, which was the region's leading port at the time; its trade guilds resented trade outside of the city, so much so that coal mined in North Shields within 300 ft of the river had to be transported on land 8 miles to Newcastle to be loaded onto boats.
The most striking buildings are the now defunct High Light and Low Light lighthouses which, in the 18th and 19th centuries, provided a line of sight for vessels entering a fairly treacherous river mouth. Until the north and south piers were built many ships foundered on the treacherous rocks known as the 'Black Middens', which lie to the east of the quay and can be seen at low tide.
The site actually has an original Old High Light and Old Low Light as well as a slightly differently positioned later High Light and Low Light, so called because they were positioned low (at river level on the quay) and high (on the bank top some 150 ft higher).
The present quay was built in 1870 to accommodate the increase in fishing boats after the introduction of steam trawlers. It is still a working fishing port with a trade fish market; it is the largest English port for prawns. Its proximity to the Dogger Bank has meant that a number of fishing boats from Whitby and elsewhere on the north east coast have relocated there. Adjacent shops include many fresh fish outlets and fish processing, mainly crab and prawn, continues in industrial units.
The Fish Quay was once the biggest kipper producer in the UK, but the fall in herring stocks has reduced the trade to a single smokery. A number of traditional smokehouses still exist but have been converted to other uses, the area having been substantiallyy repurposed to include residential accommodation, eateries and other entertainment facilities. However, although much reduced, a healthy seafood trade still exists with daily refrigerated lorry movements.
Clifford's Fort, located on the Fish Quay, was built in the 17th century (1672) as a coastal defence against the Dutch, and also played a role during the Napoleonic Wars. The fort was named after Lord Clifford, a member of King Charles II's Cabal. It is now a scheduled monument.
The Fish Quay declined in the 1980s as a result of problems in the fishing industry. Refurbishment of the area was begun by Tyne and Wear Development Corporation and then beginning in 2001 based on a consultancy report. The Old Low Light building has been converted into a heritage centre, which opened in 2015.

As a port, North Shields at the mouth of the River Tyne was able to attract people from many countries. A synagogue was consecrated in North Shields in the mid nineteenth century although within seventy years or so it has fallen into disuse. This is its story.
