10 Reasons You SHOULD Move to Perth Over Any Other City in Australia

Laying out why Perth is the most underrated city in Australia.

For a balanced view, see my last video on the 10 Reasons You Should NOT Move to Perth Australia here:

And a few corrections for the record lol -
- I misspoke referring to Perth as a state, obviously meant WA, then Perth is the capital city within
- Perth had fewer restrictions in terms of lockdowns etc whilst within WA, needless to say the restrictions for moving between WA & the rest of the world were extremely tight and difficult for many Australians through the pandemic. I was referring to how few lockdowns Perth went through comparatively, and particularly as I moved from the UK to Perth during this time I really noticed the difference, albeit this may be a UK vs Aus comparison rather than state specific.
- Obviously take all of these with a pinch of salt, every state absolutely has it’s merits

Best Things to Do in Perth Ontario Canada :Downtown Dining Shopping, Stewart Park, Mammoth Cheese

Welcome to my Channel -- Walking Attractions

I recently had the pleasure of taking a trip to Perth, Ontario, and I must say that it was one of the most memorable trips I have ever had. Perth is a charming town that is full of history, natural beauty, and a friendly community that made me feel right at home.

My first stop was to explore the downtown area, which is full of beautiful Victorian architecture and over 70 boutique shops, restaurants, and specialty stores. I was impressed with the well-preserved 19th-century buildings, which offered a glimpse into the past and the cultural traditions of the town.

As I continued my journey, I discovered the rich history of Perth. The town was established as a military settlement during the colonial period and was named after a town and river in Scotland. The settlers were from various parts of Europe and were offered land in return for their military service. The town grew and developed into a thriving community that is rich in heritage, which includes historic homes, churches, and other buildings.

After exploring the town, I made my way to the beautiful Stewart Park, which is just one block away from the main street and located behind the Town Hall. The park is a green gem that is nestled in the heart of Perth and offers visitors a chance to connect with nature and enjoy a variety of outdoor activities.

As I entered the park, I was immediately struck by the massive trees, the meandering Tay River, and the subtle rapids that created a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. The park is well-maintained, and it's clear that the community takes pride in keeping it beautiful.

One of my favorite things to do in Stewart Park was to stroll through the gardens and enjoy a picnic on the grassy areas. I picked up some charcuterie from The Perth Cheese Shop while admiring the stunning willow trees and a wooden bridge that added to the charm of the park.

One of the most interesting sights in the park was the heritage mill that overlooks postcard-pretty Stewart Park. I was also thrilled to discover a life-sized statue of hometown heroes Ian Millar and his prize-winning horse, Big Ben, who made it to the Olympics three times. This was a reminder of the town's rich history and cultural traditions.

In July, the park hosts the popular Stewart Park Festival, which features three days of free concerts. Unfortunately, I missed this event, but I can only imagine how vibrant and lively the park would be during this time.

Overall, my trip to Perth, Ontario, and Stewart Park was a delightful experience. I was struck by the charm of the town, its well-preserved 19th-century architecture, and the friendliness of the locals. Stewart Park is a must-visit attraction for anyone traveling to Perth, and I highly recommend taking the time to explore this beautiful green space.

Thank you for taking time to stroll with me, please feel free to Like & Subscribe and leave your comments! Your support will encourage me to make more videos and help others find my channel. Most appreciated.

Must Visit Perth Ontario Canada, Code's Mill, Perth Museum, Stewart Park & Mammoth Cheese Monument

Welcome to my Channel -- Walking Attractions

As the spring season arrived, I was eager to take a road trip to explore the charming town of Perth in Ontario, Canada. Known for its Scottish and Irish heritage, Perth was named after a town and river in Scotland and was established as a military settlement in 1815. Today, the heritage downtown of Perth consists of boutiques, restaurants, specialty, and antique shops that operate out of historical 100-200-year-old stone buildings in town. The town is also known for its arts and theatre culture, outdoor and recreational adventures, and authentic culinary experiences.

My first stop was the downtown area, where I was impressed by the historical architecture and the variety of shops and restaurants. The main highlight of downtown Perth was Code's Mill, a prominent structure located on the Tay River that overlooks Stewart Park. The building was once home to Code Felt, a wool and felt production complex that evolved between 1832 until it was closed in 1998. The grand Edwardian façade is composed of the distinctive Hughes limestone, a lavender-tinted stone unique to Perth. The newly renovated Code's Mill quickly became one of Ottawa Valley's most popular classic wedding venues and a collection of boutique shops, galleries, restaurants at the Atrium level. The charming limestone complex with its central garden atrium continues to delight visitors as an amazing transformation from factory to fabulous.

Next, I headed to Stewart Park, which was donated to the town of Perth in 1947 by Mrs. Stewart, in memory of her husband. Located behind the Town Hall, Stewart Park is the most distinctive landmark in Perth and home to the annual Stewart Park Festival. One of the conditions of the gift was that admission could never be charged for entrance to the park or any event held in the park, or it would revert back to the Stewart family. The park is truly magical and enchanting, with charming bridges, swimming holes, streams, and rock formations. It's a great place to stroll, take pictures, and enjoy the evening or early morning. The park also hosted an Easter egg hunt, which was a great activity for families and children.

After strolling Stewart Park, I visited the Perth Museum, located downtown at 11 Gore Street East, which is a National Historic Site. As I entered the elegant Matheson House, which was built in 1840 for the Honourable Roderick Matheson, I felt like I was leaving the 21st century behind and entering the world of the 1840s. The four period rooms - parlour, dining room, drawing room, and a warm and welcoming kitchen. The museum has been carefully curated to reflect the lifestyle of the Matheson family who owned the house for 90 years.

One of the highlights of my trip was seeing the Mammoth Cheese monument in Tay Basin beside the Crystal Palace. In 1893, a 22,000-pound cheese known as the 'Mammoth Cheese' was produced in Perth to be exhibited in Chicago at the World's Columbian Exposition to promote Canadian cheese around the world. It arrived at the fair on April 25, 1893, and caused some surprise and astonishment on the part of officials when it crashed through the floor of the building while it was being moved from the car to the space prepared for it. The crashing of the floor was the very thing which opened the flood gates of publicity, making it more talked about and more written up in the newspapers than any other single exhibit at the Fair.

Overall, my road trip to Perth, Ontario, was a wonderful experience. I loved exploring the town's rich history, strolling through the charming downtown, and visiting the various landmarks, such as Code's Mill, the Perth Museum, Stewart Park, and the Mammoth Cheese monument. I highly recommend Perth as a destination for anyone looking for a charming and historic town to visit in Canada.
