VANCOUVER ISLAND, BC, CANADA | 10 INCREDIBLE places to visit on Vancouver Island

Vancouver Island combines large forests, rugged landscapes, rocky mountain peaks, and mysterious coastlines. After living in this beautiful place for a combined 10 years, we’ll break down the 10 MOST INCREDIBLE places you have to visit on Vancouver Island (footage accumulated over the years):

10. Cameron Lake & Cathedral Grove
These are located near each other in central Vancouver Island, sitting between Parksville and Port Alberni. Cameron lake is a tranquil spot on the island with many other natural attractions in the area. Witness the old-growth giant trees at Cathedral Grove and more.

9. Goldstream Provincial Park
Located right outside of Victoria, Goldstream Provincial Park is a great spot for hiking, camping and connecting with nature. Explore the beautiful “Niagara” waterfall or do a challenging hike to the neighboring peak of Mount Finlayson.

❗NOTE: Goldstream Trestle has now been CLOSED to the public

8. Victoria
Sitting on the southern end, Victoria is the most popular and accessible destination on Vancouver Island. Within a 20-minute driving radius of the city, there are tons of things to do in Victoria. You can choose to explore the British colonial Downtown on foot, take a tour to the magnificent Butchart Gardens, see the stunning Hatley Castle, or explore the wildlife on a whale watching tour.

☑️ Book Whale Watching Tour:

7. Port Renfrew
The fishing village of Port Renfrew is another place you cannot miss on Vancouver Island! Also called Wild Renfrew, this area is known for its ancient rainforest, world-class hiking trails, and its stunning beaches.

6. Cowichan Valley
Cowichan Valley is another unique place to visit on Vancouver Island. Activities to enjoy here include hiking or biking Mount Tzouhalem, sipping wine at one of the idyllic vineyards, exploring the largest totem pole collection in Duncan, and seeing the sea lions in Cowichan Bay.

5. Lake Cowichan
Lake Cowichan is another amazing travel destination worth mentioning on its own. This freshwater lake is about 30 km or 18.6mi long and sits to the west of Duncan, in the Cowichan Valley.

4. Shawnigan Lake
Located about 40km north of Victoria at the southern edge of the Cowichan Valley, Shawnigan Lake is a popular place to vacation. The lake is 7km long and great for fishing, swimming, and sunbathing in the summer. But what we like the most in this area is hiking.

❗NOTE: The Quarry has now been CLOSED to the public

3. Sombrio & Mystic Beach
Mystic Beach has a beautiful waterfall that Cascades into the ocean, whereas Sombrio Beach has the best vibe for beach camping. Sombrio is a popular weekend getaway with friends or family during the summer and also offers some hidden waterfalls of its own.

2. Tofino & Ucluelet
Tofino and Ucluelet are both great destinations to get away and relax in nature on Vancouver Island! There is amazing hiking and surfing, and you will find the sandiest beaches on the island here! Our top pick of beaches include Cox Bay, Mackenzie Beach, Chesterman Beach, Long Beach, and Wickaninnish.

1. Strathcona Provincial Park
Located in the heart of the island, Strathcona Provincial Park has the purest nature, richest wildlife and most breathtaking scenery on all of Vancouver Island. Our top picks in the park include Landslide Lake, Myra Falls, and Cream Lake.

Amazing Things To Do Around Victoria BC Canada

Victoria BC Travel Guides:
AMAZON:
(Victoria British Columbia Family Travel Guide: Iconic Tourist Sites)
(Victoria British Columbia Travel Guide for the Active Family)
WEBSITE:

This video is about 9 more things to do on Vancouver Island in or near Victoria, British Columbia. All of the activities were Free (if you have your own bikes) except for the seaplane tour. We barely scratched the surface of things to do here.

Our 9 more must do’s include:
Visiting Bear Mountain Resort., A local activity-based resort just outside the city of Victoria. We chose to mountain bike but you can golf, play tennis, go to the spa or dine at the restaurant.

We drove out to Port Renfrew. This was a two-hour drive from Victoria where we hiked to Sombrio Beach to a hidden waterfall, a Botanical beach to look at the tidal pools, and Fairy Lake, home of a tiny Douglas Fir tree growing out of a submerged log. Finally, on the way back to Victoria we visited Sheringham Lighthouse, an old lighthouse built in 1912 along the rugged coastline. This was one long but amazingly adventurous day.

We took a drive to Cowichan Valley - here we cycled the Cowichan Valley Trail along the Kinsol trestle and then hiked Old Baldy Mountain to a secret swing overlooking Shawnigan lake.

The last two activities were right in Victoria. The Galloping Goose trail is an amazing cycling path that links Victoria to Sooke and is 55km in length. There are many places to park along the way.

Last but not least was our Sea Plane tour around Vancouver Island. The island is so beautiful to see by air and worth the expense of the trip.

We hope these activities will make it easy for you when planning your family adventures to Vancouver Island.

Northern Vancouver Island Road Trip: Exploring Parksville, Campbell River, and Port McNeill [Ep.27]

The Vancouver Island adventure continues as Sayu Rinpoche travelled further north. The stops include an overcrowded tourist town that couldn't handle the sheer amount of tourists, a town famous for its salmon fishing worldwide, and a town with the largest burl in the world. Vancouver Island is full of surprises, but be aware that don't eat raw oysters you just happen to find on the beach!

VANCOUVER ISLAND BEST, CHEMAINUS MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH COWICHAN... Founded as an unincorporated logging town in 1858, Chemainus is now famous for its 53 outdoor murals. This outdoor gallery has given birth to many businesses, including a theatre, antiques dealers, and eateries. The tourist industry stemming from the murals helped rejuvenate the town after its large sawmill closed in the early 1980s and was replaced by a smaller, more efficient, mill.

The name Chemainus comes from the native shaman and prophet Tsa-meeun-is meaning broken chest. Legend says that the man survived a massive wound in his chest from an arrow in battle to become a powerful chief. His people took his name to identify their community, the Stz'uminus First Nation, formerly the Chemainus Indian Band.

EPIC VANCOUVER ISLAND ROADTRIP | Tofino, Nanaimo, Cowichan Bay + Stunning Nature!

If you're looking for one of the most beautiful places in Canada, Vancouver Island might just be it. Raw, wild and stunning nature is at every turn on this Pacific West island and is considered to be a year round destination. This was an absolutely incredible road trip to some of the more remote parts of the island like Tofino, but also taking a look at the second largest city which is Nanaimo. SafetyWing (best for younger travelers + digital nomads):

*I use both of these companies depending on the destination and requirements of entry. If you are going to be abroad for a long time and/or don't need as much coverage, I would recommend SafetyWing. BUT you cannot purchase SafetyWing WHILE in Canada or USA. You can only purchase once already abroad. Hey Mondo is more expensive but offers a higher level of coverage including plans that have trip cancellation/interruption insurance. Hey Mondo would be the better insurance to use if you need travel medical insurance when applying for a visa. Both companies cover covid. I am an affiliate for both companies, but I pay for my own policies.*

Trying to explore Ladysmith, BC and the Cowichan Valley (Here's what I found!) | Vancouver Island

Trying to find things to do in Ladysmith, BC and the Cowichan Valley (This is what I found!)

Ladysmith, BC and the Cowichan Valley are located on Vancouver Island and a short (hour plus) BC Ferries ride away from Vancouver Canada. It's a very friendly, nature oriented area of British Columbia that is quickly growing in population.

We begin our trip taking BC Ferries over to Nanaimo BC and driving down to Ladysmith. Ladysmith is a cute and small community that is know it's hospitality and located right beside the ocean. We spent a few hours explore downtown Ladysmith, which is filled with a ton of local vendors and cute boutique shops.

We spend our days nights staying at the Best Western located in Chemainus, BC. Which is a quick 10 minute drive to Ladysmith.

Chemainus is a lovely, seaside town, with lots of beautiful murals and it's unique, year round Christmas decorated downtown is worth the stop for anyone driving by.

The last bit of our trip was spent in the small town of Lake Cowichan. Located about an hour away from Nanaimo and more inland Lake Cowichan is the starting point for anyone looking to explore further inland and see the other side of Vancouver Island. We visited a old decommissioned Canadian army base.

Thanks for watching and leave a comment. It was a short trip and we missed a lot but hopefully you enjoyed the video.

Top Spots along our West Coast Road Trip on Vancouver Island | Victoria to Ucluelet, BC

We continue exploring the West Coast and our Vancouver Island road trip by driving from Victoria to Ucluelet. We drove for two days and saw some of what makes this route one of the most epic road trips in Canada. We loved the coffee and treats, cool nature spots, hikes, and views along the way, there’s much to see on the West Coast!

Bikepacking the Cowichan Valley Trail (Vancouver Island)

Greetings. This is a re-edit from a couple videos from the beginning of the cross Canada trip. The Cowichan Valley really was a incredible place to start the trip. I see now that my lack of experience with cinematography and video editing failed to truly capture the essence of these magical trails and lush forests. I have always intended to go back to the Island since my first visit in 2020 to begin the trip and now the desire to make videos that properly convey the mystical, magical beauty that is Vancouver Island makes it a must.
Unfortunately I no longer have the original raw footage (rookie mistake) so I could only do so much with already produced versions but I thought I would have some fun with it anyways. I hope you enjoy!
Also I would really love to hear about any adventures you guys have planned for 2022. I think it would be a great source of inspiration! And as always I am looking for riding buddies so if anyone wants to plan a ride with me just let me know. This is a link to my email if you would like to contact me jacknico.berard@yahoo.com
