North Berwick is a very pleasant seaside town in East Lothian, boasting great beaches and coastal scenery, and the Scottish Seabird Centre. It is also home to the 5-star Scottish Seabird Centre, and nearby attractions includes the mighty Tantallon Castle to the east and Dirleton Castle to the west.It is situated on the south shore of the Firth of Forth, approximately 20 miles east-northeast of Edinburgh.
North Berwick became a fashionable holiday resort in the nineteenth century because of its two sandy bays, the East (or Milsey) Bay and the West Bay, and continues to attract holidaymakers. Golf courses at the ends of each bay are open to visitors.
The name Berwick means barley farmstead (bere in Old English means barley and wic means farmstead). Alternatively, like other place names in Scotland ending in 'wick', this word means 'bay' (Old Norse: vík). The word North was applied to distinguish this Berwick from Berwick-upon-Tweed, which throughout the Middle Ages the Scots called South Berwick. It was recorded as Northberwyk in 1250
North Berwick has breathtaking beaches and general coastal scenery, as well as loads of good places to eat, drink and shop. It's also home to the famous Scottish Seabird Centre, where you can discover more about the local puffins and the world's largest colony of northern gannets.
North Berwick is the most expensive seaside town in Scotland, with an average house price of £401,590. North Berwick, in East Lothian, has been named the best place to live in Scotland. It topped of a list of eight locations across Scotland chosen in the annual Sunday Times Best Places to Live guide.
North Berwick is a very pretty seaside town in East Lothian with attractive beaches and lots of activities for tourists, less than an hours drive from Edinburgh. The two sandy beaches are located on each side of the old pier and they were the reason for North Berwick to become a holiday resort in the 19th century and today it still is. Another reason for tourists to visit the town was the large open swimming pool which was housed on the site of the Scottish Seabird Centre, the pool was closed in 1995.
St Andrews Old Kirk - From a historic point of view North Berwick played an important role for many pilgrims on their way to St. Andrews. The first mention of a port in North Berwick was in 1177. During mediaeval times up to 10,000 pilgrims a year were ferried across the Forth to Earlsferry in fife, en route to St. Andrews. The present harbour is the result of many improvement carried out in the 18th and 19th centuries, often after storm damage. Located in the harbour area are the remains of St. Andrews Old Kirk. Nowadays the porch and remains of walls are left but the church played an important role for the pilgrims in the earlier days.

All of these towns and cities are worming their way into the hearts of tourists from home and abroad. With due respect to these towns, and out of a deep sense of duty, we want to identify which of these towns are the best so that we can help the decision-making process for those having reasons to consider seaside towns. 10. Swanage, Dorset, England
The tenth place we’ll consider as one the best seaside towns in the UK is Swanage in South West of England. The town has been a popular seaside resort since Victorian times. With its panoramic views, the seaside resort offers relaxing luxurious holidays in self-catering accommodation in caravans and luxury hot tub lodges. If you want to own a holiday home, they’re available here with unrivaled views across the bay. The town is about one kilometer from the leisurely beautiful Swanage Railway. Truly, this beautiful seaside destination in North Yorkshire deserves a slot here as one of the most popular in the UK. It used to be a fishing village before developing into a popular resort with a very large beach that is playing a remarkable role in popularizing it.
It is quieter than most of its neighbors and most of the other coastal towns. This is because it has enough accommodations, seats, and transportation. There is no need for any rush here. You can just go there and enjoy your peace.

8. Helensburgh
A good place to begin beaming our searchlight is Helensburgh, a rich coastal town in Argyll and Bute council area. The town founded in 1776 as a spa by Colquhoun is at the intersection of the Firth of Clyde and East Clyde. The 15,000 residents of this town named after its founder’s wife have their own Community Council. Its unique location 40 kilometers northwest of Glasgow on the water, provides good access from the town to Glasgow. That’s one good reason to love it.

In any of these, Helensburgh is never found wanting. Thus, we agree that this is one of the best towns to live in Scotland.
7. Bearsden
Bearsden, a town in East Dunbartonshire and on the northwestern fringe of Greater Glasgow is the next on our list. The town about 5.2 kilometers northwest of Glasgow City Center is a suburb with a population of about 28,000 and it provides quick and easy access to the city center.
We first thought of including Bearsden here when it appeared on a list of the 8 best places in Scotland. That list was compiled by The Sunday Times. Looking closer, we found out that the town has an array of cute homes, quality schools, and a thriving community of small shops. This makes it a desirable option for raising a family. It has all of the nighttime entertainment you could ask for.
Though the crime rate in Glasgow city center is high, Bearsden is quite quiet, making it a good place to call home around Glasgow. It’s also one of the coolest neighborhoods in the world.
6. Dunkeld
Let’s proceed to Dunkeld a town in Perth and Kinross. The town is located on the north bank of the River Tay and opposite Birnam. Dunkeld is frequently referred to as the Gateway to the Highlands because of its proximity to the geological Highland Boundary Fault. The town that is one of the most loved in the UK is also one of the best towns to live in Scotland. It’s a popular holiday area in Scotland. It’s also well connected by road and rail to all the major centers in Scotland and the other parts of the UK. Though the town with an estimated population of 1,300 may be relatively small, it’s among the best.

Other family fun attractions in Dunbar include East Links Family Park and Foxlake Adventures. East Links Family Park is a farm-based activity park suitable for all ages. What are the best towns in England? Thank you, so much, dear subscribers, for bearing your minds on my video regarding the 10 best towns to live in England. I have analyzed your opinions about the towns you consider 10 best when living in England is on the balance. Indeed, England is an interesting and diverse country. Offering a variety of living experiences, I understand that different groups of people and individuals will love different features of towns. That necessarily creates different rankings of the towns in England among my subscribers. From the towns you listed as the best towns to live in England, I have compiled this as the 10 best towns to live in England, but in my order since my subscribers have varying orders.
10. Alnwick
Thanks for calling my attention to the market town of Alnwick in Northumberland, of which it’s the traditional county town. This coastal town on the River Aln's southern bank is 55 kilometers north of Newcastle upon Tyne. It's 51 kilometers south of Berwick-upon-Tweed and 8 kilometers inland from the North Sea at Alnmouth.
A lot of things contributed to making Alnwick one of the best towns to live in England. Some of the things that my subscribers saw about this town are its cheap homes, good characters, good transport links, fascinating history, and of course, low crime rates. I have no other choice than to agree with you that this town whose residents believe that living there affords them a fantastic quality of life is one of the best towns in England.
9. Weston-Super-Mare
I love the inclusion of Weston-super-Mare on my subscribers’ list. I found the communities in Weston-Super-Mare so small but the people are quite pleasant. I wholeheartedly join in ranking it among the best places in England. It’s a town with a warm and temperate climate with plenty of rainfall all year round.
For those planning for their retirement, Weston-Super-Mare is a great place due to its relaxing atmosphere and variety of interesting activities at all times of the year. The town has a lot to offer, including its beautiful beach, dozens of entertainment venues where your soul will be treated to good music, comedy, and many more. Home prices are cheap in Weston-Super-Mare also. Therefore, as a family-friendly commuter town with good links to many cities and plenty of shopping opportunities, this is a very good town to live in in England.
8. Frome
I’m happy that you all agree with all I said about the market town of Frome and you added it to your list. In addition to all that I have told you about this town sitting on the eastern flanks of the Mendip Hills which is some 20 kilometers south of the ancient town of Bath and some 172 kilometers west of London, I want to show you some of the things that make Frome one of the loveliest little towns, not only in England but also in the UK as a whole.
It has a vibrant nightlife that gives a justification for its being the fourth largest Somerset town. Also, its education, transportation, and good links will always combine to make it one of the 10 best towns to live in England.

Northumberland is an incredible place, packed full of more castles than any other county in the world, the least dense population of any county in England, and home to some of the most wild, immense and rugged landscapes I've ever seen in England. All these things make Northumberland the perfect place to explore around!

Top 10 list (in no particular order)
1. Bamburgh Castle - 0:39
Having a history dating back to the year 547, this castle is pretty breathtaking! Epic views from the ramparts and being beautifully renovated by William Armstrong make Bamburgh castle a great place to explore
2. Dunstanburgh Castle - 1:54
Located only 9 miles south of Bamburgh castle, this castle was much less fortunate and is left in ruins today, but the setting is no less epic. there is a 1-mile coastal walk from the town of Craster to access this castle as there is no parking nearby.
3/4/5. The Holy Island of Lindisfarne - 2:39
Lindisfarne Island is packed with things to do but is only accessible at low tide due to the causeway being submerged and the island getting cut off from the mainland. Firstly you can visit Lindisfarne Castle (3:09), you can also see the Boatsheds made from upturned boat hulls, walk along the coastline to the Holy Island War Memorial, explore Lindisfarne Priory, and if it's low tide walk out to St. Cuthberts Island (4:07). we visited Lindisfarne in the evening and it's a great place to catch a sunset.
6. Hadrians Wall - 4:50
Dating all the way back to 122 AD, built by the Roman emperor Hadrian, this wall is 73 miles long and stretches the whole breadth of England. we hiked a 3-mile stretch from Steel Rigg Car Park, Vis Sycamore Gap to Housesteads Roman Fort. Sycamore Gap is the most photographed tree in England and Housesteads fort is the most well preserved roman for on Hadrian's wall! this 3-mile stretch goes through Northumberland National Park and is a great hike!
7. Cragside - 6:10
Our favourite thing to do in Northumberland, Cragside is the first house in the world to be powered by hydroelectricity. As well as this there are so many grounds full of picture-perfect, straight out of a fantasy film scenery that you can explore to your heart's content. Definitely, a must-visit on your holiday in Northumberland!
8. Alnwick - 7:43
home to the famous Alnwick Castle, famous for its many uses as Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films. But the town of Alnwick is a great place in itself, make sure you head down to Barter Books, a second-hand bookstore housed in the old Victorian railway station of Alnwick!
9. Newcastle upon Tyne - 8:24
Technically not in the county of Northumberland but Newcastle was the place we stayed during our trip to Northumberland, full of some really interesting architecture and great nightlife!
10. The Angel of The North - 8:47
Located in Gateshead just south of Newcastle, this statue was designed by Antony Gormley in 1998 and is considered an icon of England! Overlooking the A1 and a great place to relax and watch the sunset!

What are the most popular seaside destination in the UK? The next time you’re planning a vacation, you may consider spending some time in a seaside resort. No, we don’t mean only international tourists and vacationers. We’re catering to the needs of both local and international tourists in the UK. How many seaside destinations did you know? Your time away from home will make a lot of difference and be refreshing, reinvigorating, and rewarding if you spent it in one of the 10 most popular seaside destinations in the UK we’re about to discuss.
One thing stands out in all these, these 10 most popular seaside destinations are among the best seaside resorts in the UK. That means, their popularity is due mainly to their quality. Here we go:
10. St Davids, Pembrokeshire, Wales
Let’s start our search in Wales. In Pembrokeshire, you’ll find a small city and community known as St Davids. Lying on the River Alun, it is the smallest city in the UK by population and the smallest urban area by local authority boundary.
The city has some of the most stunning coastal sceneries in Pembrokeshire. One of the charms of this place is its ability to blend its sacred status with its National Park. The location creates a relaxed and vibrant atmosphere for those who could take their time to visit. There are surf shops and outdoor adventure centers in the shadow of the cathedral at St Davids which offers a gateway to the coastline of the northern stretch.
9. Southwold, Suffolk, England
The next place we’re touching on is Southwold in Suffolk. This ninth on the list of the 10 most popular seaside destinations in the UK is on the English North Sea coast located in the north Suffolk on the Suffolk Heritage Coast.
This town is made popular throughout the year as a tourists attraction by its dramatic coastline and beautiful architecture. Some of its most charming elements include its cozy pub lunches, lone walks along the beach, or a serene browse in any of its many independent shops. You can catch some fun on its famous blue flag beaches sand with your bucket and spade. If you like, you can walk along Southwold pier while marveling at its spectacular views.
8. Filey, North Yorkshire, England
Filey, in the Borough of Scarborough, is a beautiful seaside destination in North Yorkshire. It’s the eighth most popular in the UK. As a fishing village, it was popular among fishers and those partaking in fishing festivals. So, it was expected that one day it would develop into a popular resort, and now the expectation has come true. Its large beach played a big role here.
Like most of the other coastal towns, Filey has benefited immensely from fishing and farming consolidating its local economy. This is also been made possible by its equidistant location between Bridlington and Scarborough which only serves to help fish and foodstuffs trading.

We take the Gimbal Walk TV cameras for a silent walk along Milsey Bay Beach in North Berwick, Scotland to have a look at a beach pool that some of our subscribers mentioned and requested as a place for us to film.
I'm not sure if this pool is a paddling pool, a boating pond or just a seawater swimming pool on the beach so if you know let me know!
North Berwick is a seaside town and former royal burgh in East Lothian, Scotland. It is situated on the south shore of the Firth of Forth, approximately 20 miles east-northeast of Edinburgh.
North Berwick is an attractive seaside resort and harbour town located on the south side of the Firth of Forth where it meets the North Sea.
Around 30 minutes from the centre of Edinburgh, North Berwick has long been a popular getaway for the city’s residents. But in recent years, the seaside town has garnered attention from much further afield – and with beauty, fun and adventure all within easy reach, what’s not to love? Get your fix of wildlife and outdoorsy exploration, chill out on one of the picutre-postcard beaches or head to a swanky new restaurant or café for a bite.

NORTH BERWICK | Tour of North Berwick, Scotland [4K]
NORTH BERWICK West Bay and West Bay Beach - a walk through North Berwick from the town centre and across West Bay Beach and along to North Berwick harbour and the seafront.

West Bay is a sandy beach close to the seaside town of North Berwick. It has excellent views over the Firth of Forth, 12th Century North Berwick Harbour and Craigleth and Bass Rocks, both of which are about a mile from the coast. It is ideal for paddling, sun bathing, walking and picnics. Behind the beach there is a putting green and the North Berwick Golf Club is found to the west of the beach.
There is plenty of roadside parking near to the beach along Beach Road, with access to the beach via a short path over the putting green.
The picturesque harbour sits at the eastern end of the beach. Here you will also find the Scottish Seabird Centre, which provides information about wildlife in the area. It is possible to take boat trips out to the seabird sanctuary on Bass Rock.
North Berwick town centre has plenty of shops, restaurants, pubs and places to stay. A regular train to and from Edinburgh runs from nearby North Berwick Station.
North Berwick West Beach has a long stretch of sand with views to the island of Craigleith and the Bass Rock. It is a popular family beach providing an ideal location for sunbathing, bird watching, paddling, picnics and dog walking. Behind the beach is a putting green that is open during the summer months. It is close to the Lifeboat shed and also within walking distance of the Scottish Seabird Centre.
History
The name North Berwick means North barley farmstead (bere in Old English means barley and wic in Old English is 'farmstead'). The word North was applied to distinguish this Berwick from Berwick-upon-Tweed, which throughout the Middle Ages the Scots called South Berwick. It was recorded as Northberwyk in 1250. On the south of North Berwick Law there is evidence of at least eighteen hut circles, rich middens and a field system dating from 2,000 years ago. Whaling in the eighteenth century, local lore, place names, and the jawbone arch atop the Law erected in 1709 suggest that the port was involved in the whaling industry though there is little written evidence left to prove it.

A long stretch of sand with views to the island of Craigleith and the Bass Rock. Behind the beach is a putting green that is open during the summer months.
Setting
North Berwick is situated on the south shore of the Firth of Forth, approximately 25 miles (40 km) north-east of Edinburgh. North Berwick became a fashionable holiday resort in the nineteenth century because of its two sandy bays, the East (or Milsey) Bay and the West Bay.
Getting There
The west beach in North Berwick is the closest to the train station (a direct train service runs from Edinburgh). There is also a regular bus service.
Water quality information
This beach is a designated bathing water site. Further information about water quality at this site can be found on the SEPA website. Please observe local signage and only swim where it is safe to do so.
Toilets
Fully accessible toilets are available in the town next to the main car park at Quality Street, approximately 5 minute walk.

Beautiful NORTH BERWICK - Gorgeous Beaches, Steampunk Coffee and Chips - Walking Tour
Join me for a trip to beautiful North Berwick to check out its beautiful beaches, shops cafes and restaurants.
I'll take you to the West beach, the Harbour and the East Beach. We'll stop for a coffee at the legendary Steampunk Coffee Roasters. Have a plate of Chips at the famous North Berwick Fry.
North Berwick is a beautiful seaside town in East Lothian about 30 miles east of Edinburgh. To get there we'll take the train - a ScotRail Class 380.
From East beach, we'll be able to see Bass Rock and all its Gannets, Puffins and other seabirds.
At the Scottish Seabird Centre there are two great statues, The Watcher and The Arctic Turn.

Tantallon Castle & North Berwick from above in 4K

Tantallon castle
Two miles east of North Berwick we can find Tantallon castle.
William Douglas, a nobleman, showing off his status, built this castle in 1350.
Sitting on the edge of cliffs, facing the beautiful Bass rock.
the castle is now a ruin, managed by Historic Environment Scotland who has installed walkways that allow visitors to explore the castle walls along with information panels that explain the castle’s fascinating history.
The top of the curtain wall is the best spot to watch the seabird colonies that call this part of East Lothian their home, and if you want to explore the coastline to see more wildlife, it is just a short walk to Seacliff beach.
