I traveled to Miyazaki Prefecture in Kyushu, southwestern Japan. This is where you will find Japan's Easter Island. Miyazaki has tropical atmosphere and it's a relaxing place to visit. Also, you'll find a delicious chicken nanban!
Kyushu trip started from Osaka. I took a cool overnight ferry to Kagoshima.

CAMPING in JAPAN - Nobeoka, Miyazaki
Every year the JETs in Oita and the JETs in Miyazaki do a joint camping trip to Nobeoka, Miyazaki. I thought it would be a good time to show you what camping is like in Japan.
Camping in Japan is a little bit different that what I have always associated with camping in Canada. It's not exactly roughing it. But from my experience camping in Japan, this is pretty standard stuff.
Despite the rain, it was a fun time.

I stopped by at Imayama Shrine (今山神社) in Nobeoka City on my way back from Takachiho.
Nobeoka is between Takachiho and Miyazaki City in Miyazaki Prefecture.
January 1st is the busiest time for shrines in Japan as people are doing their hatsumode (1st shrine visit of the year).
I was lucky to see this New Years Taiko performance!

しばらく駅前の観光案内マップとにらめっこしたものの、どこへ行けば美味しい「チキン南蛮」が食べられるかわからず、結局観光案内所に駆け込むことに。
ところが延岡に到着した時刻が早すぎて、どこのレストランもオープン前であることが案内係から告げられる……。
しかしそれがきっかけとなり、彼らは延岡の歴史や文化に深く触れ、思いもよらぬ体験をすることになる。

The city of Kitsuki (杵築), in Oita Prefecture is located on the southern side of the Kunisaki Peninsula. The city is nicknamed a sandwich castle town because of the samurai districts on both the north and south hills with the commercial district in the center.
Hitotsumatsu Residence
This magnificent residence was once the home of an important politician. It was completed recently in 1929 and incorporates many architectural features of both the Showa and Edo Periods. Visitors can see its wide tatami mat rooms and exhibits, such as drawings and antiques. Views of Kitsuki Castle and the sea is enjoyable.
Hours: 9:00 to 17:00 (last entry at 16:30)
Closed: December 29 to January 3
Admission: 100 yen

こんにちは、Life in Shikoku です。九州旅行二日目は、宮崎県の延岡市を出発し、まず日南海岸をドライブして サンメッセ日南を訪れました。広大な園内と、大きなモアイ像に驚きました。
そして、宮崎県の最南端 野生馬の生息する 都井岬へ。御崎馬（みさきうま)は、自然に近い状態で放牧され、野生の生態を保っています。小柄でずんぐりしていて、親しみやすくて可愛い。この景色を、一緒に楽しんで頂けたら嬉しいです。
Hello, this is Life in Shikoku. On the second day of our trip to Kyushu, departing from Nobeoka City in Miyazaki Prefecture, we first drove along the Nichinan coast to visit Sun Messe Nichinan. Amazed by the vastness of the park and the large moai statues.
Then went to Cape Toi, the southernmost tip of Miyazaki Prefecture, where wild horses live. Misaki-uma horses are grazed in their natural habitat, preserving their wild ecology. They are small, stocky, friendly, and cute. We would be happy if you enjoy this scenery with us.
