Nijmegen: Top 5 plekken voor een geweldig dagje uit!
In deze Top 5 nemen we je mee langs de hoogtepunten van de oudste stad van ons land: Nijmegen! Heb jij altijd al een bezoekje willen brengen aan deze prachtige stad aan de Waal, dan mag je deze highlights niet missen!
We beginnen onze top 5 in het Valkhofpark, dat gelijk vanaf de Waalbrug al te zien is. In dit heuvelachtige park kun je oude ruïnes bewonderen en heb je een mooi panorama over de Waal. Vanaf het park lopen we naar onze nummer vierde, de oudste winkelstraat van Nederland, namelijk de Lange Hezelstraat. Nadat we een kijkje hebben genomen in de vele boetiekjes, stappen we zo in het groene hart van de stad: het Kronenburgerpark. Hier nemen we een kijkje bij de waterval en de bijzondere toren en en met de hit van Frank Boeijen in onze oren, stappen we richting het centrum voor de nummer twee van onze lijst. De Stevenskerk is dé eye-catcher van Nijmegen en een echte must-see! Er zijn regelmatig evenementen en onder begeleiding kun je ook nog eens de toren beklimmen om de stad van boven te bekijken. Na een geslaagde trip, sluiten we de dag af op de Grote Markt, het bruisende centrum van de stad. Hier kun je prachtige, historische gebouwen bewonderen zoals de eeuwenoude Waag en lekker neerploffen op een van de vele terrasjes.

#nijmegen is the largest city in the Dutch province of Gelderland and tenth largest of the #netherlands as a whole, located on the Waal river close to the German border. It is about 60 km south east of Utrecht and 50 km north east of Eindhoven. Nijmegen is the oldest city in the Netherlands, the second to be recognized as such in Roman times, and in 2005 celebrated 2,000 years of existence.
Nijmegen became a free imperial city in 1230 and in 1402 a Hanseatic city. Since 1923 it has been a university city with the opening of a Catholic institution now known as the Radboud University Nijmegen. The city is well known for the International Four Days Marches Nijmegen event.
Its population in 2022 was 179,000; the municipality is part of the Arnhem–Nijmegen metropolitan area, with 736,107 inhabitants in 2011.
The city lies a few kilometers from the border with Germany, and to some extent the westernmost villages in the municipality of Kranenburg, Germany, function as dormitories for people who work in the Dutch city of Nijmegen in part due to the immigration of Dutch people from the region who were attracted by the lower house pricing just across the border.
