Shinkansen with JR pass・・・very convenient and nice!
But , if you prefer to visit unseen local Japan, we recommend to use car rental as well.
It is useful to travel around areas where it's hard to visit by public transportation.
Of course it's very convenient to combine Shinkansen and drive trip depending on your destination.
From Tokyo, there are a lot of attractive destination where you can feel unique atmosphere where you can't feel in other areas.
One of the options is Northward Golden Route which includes Saitama, Gunma and Niigata.
There are both Shinkansen line and highway belonging these three prefectures from Tokyo and each prefecture has unique attractions.
In this video, we introduce a part of attractions in Niigata through drive journey.

Only 70 minutes from Tokyo and after passing through a long tunnel, we find another Japan different from Tokyo and Kyoto.
Niigata Prefecture was once a wealthy region. It boasted the largest population in Japan until 150 years ago. However, due to the development of the transportation networks, the economic center shifted to the Pacific coast side, leaving the region on the Sea of Japan side behind. However, that is precisely why all of the culture, traditions, and original scenery were preserved, almost as though sealed inside a time capsule. There is another side of Japan which we miss, and it can be found in Niigata.

また、新潟は新幹線を使えば、関東圏はもちろん、北陸、関西、東北、甲信越からもアクセスしやすいの人気観光地。今回紹介する施設は東京からも2時間かからない所から3時間ぐらいでほぼ行けるもの良い所。
※新潟自体が何地方かは諸説あるので、明言しません（できません）。
私は個人的に新潟県と御縁があって両手両足で数えられないくらい行ったのですが、北から南、更に佐渡島など大きな県なので、コンプリートはまだできていません(;'∀')

JR信越線、磐越西線、羽越本線、新津駅構内を散策してきました。
新潟県新潟市秋葉区新津本町にある駅。
1897年開業

信越本線：4115人
日時：2021年3月8日（月）
1897年（明治30年）11月20日：北越鉄道沼垂駅 - 東三条駅間開通にあわせて開業。
1907年（明治40年）8月1日：北越鉄道が国有化。
1910年（明治43年）10月25日：信越線支線（現：磐越西線）が馬下駅まで開通。
1912年（大正元年）9月2日：信越線支線（現：羽越本線）が新発田駅まで開通。
1913年（大正2年）
5月：第一種連動装置竣工。
10月1日：新津機関庫（現：新津運輸区）設置。
1928年（昭和3年）7月15日：2代目の駅舎に改築。
1960年（昭和35年）3月：時刻改正に合わせてホームの番号を変更、2番線が1番線に、1番線が0番線となる
1980年（昭和55年）10月1日：操車場機能を廃止。
1985年（昭和60年）
3月14日：特急「白鳥」が再度停車するようになる。
10月1日：駅脇にドムドムハンバーガー開店。
1986年（昭和61年）
10月20日：貨物の取扱を廃止。
11月1日：荷物の取扱を廃止。
1987年（昭和62年）
3月31日：貨物の取扱を再開。
4月1日：国鉄分割民営化に伴い、東日本旅客鉄道（JR東日本）と日本貨物鉄道（JR貨物）の駅となる。
1998年（平成10年）8月1日：入線警告音（接近メロディ）を導入[14]。
2001年（平成13年）5月16日：橋上駅舎化を前に、新津駅東西自由通路が先行して開通。また東口側では旧職員詰所を転用した仮駅舎での営業を開始し、2代目駅舎撤去及び東西自由通路の東口側部分の建設に着手。
2003年（平成15年）12月6日：東西自由通路の東口側および橋上駅舎（3代目の現：駅舎）が竣工し、営業を開始。
2004年（平成16年）
9月25日：東口駅前広場にコンビニ「デイリーヤマザキ新津駅前店」開店。
12月2日：自動改札機の供用を開始。
2006年（平成18年）1月21日：ICカード「Suica」の利用が可能となる（信越本線のみ）。
2008年（平成20年）
3月15日：羽越本線（新発田駅まで）および磐越西線（五泉駅まで）でICカード「Suica」の利用が可能となる。
12月16日：指定席券売機導入。
2017年（平成29年）4月8日：「エコステ」（ecoste）モデル駅としてリニューアルされる。駅構内の案内標がすべてLED型もしくはecosteと書かれた非電照型に統一され、壁面には石炭や木材を随所に取り入れた構造となった。
2019年（平成31年）3月30日：びゅうプラザが閉店。

新潟の風景 花の名所 あやめ園3選/From late June to early July, we took a walk through three famous iris spots in Niigata prefecture Japan, where you can admire the beautiful iris flowers.
There were some varieties that were in full bloom, but the overall condition was from 6 minutes to 7 minutes, but the scenery of colorful irises was very beautiful.

Hyoko lake, known for its visit of over 6,000 swans in winter, is a Ramsar Convention-registered wetland located in Agano City, Niigata Prefecture.
This area is also known as the first successful place in the country to feed wild swans in 1954, and in the same year it was designated as a national natural monument as a land for swans to visit Suibara.
The area around Hyoko is maintained as Hyokosuikin Park, and it is known that flowers such as irises and hass, which were also the flowers of the former Suibara town, bloom.
The Hyoko Ayame Festival is held every year from June to July, and you can see about 500,000 iris flowers of 170 types and the fantastic illumination by Bomboli at night.

Shirasagi Forest Park in Sanjo City, Niigata Prefecture Japan, is a natural park that is also known as a famous place for fireflies inhabited by Genji fireflies and Heike fireflies.
Every year from mid-June to early July, we hold the Iris Festival, where you can admire 20,000 irises flowers of about 100 species.
From 2021, we started the renovation work to replace the wooden path and install two terraces, and it was the first time since the renewal that the flower iris festival was held.

Iris Flower Garden in Ijimino Park in Shibata City, Niigata Prefecture, is a famous flower spot that is one of the four major Ayameen in Japan.
Approximately 300 varieties and 600,000 irises are in full bloom on a vast site of approximately 1.8 hectares, and at night there is a fantastic illumination with bomboli and lighting.
6月下旬から7月上旬にかけて美しいあやめの花々を観賞できる、新潟県で有名なあやめの名所3ヶ所を散策しました。
花の見頃を迎えている種類もありましたが、全体的な咲き具合は6分咲きから7分咲きとなっていましたが、色とりどりの菖蒲が咲く風景がとても美しかったです。

冬に6000羽を超える白鳥がシベリアから訪れる事で知られる瓢湖(ひょうこ)は、新潟県阿賀野市に位置するラムサール条約登録湿地です。
1954年に野生のハクチョウの餌付けに全国で初めて成功した地としても知られ、同年には水原のハクチョウ渡来地として国の天然記念物にも指定されました。
瓢湖の周囲は瓢湖水きん公園として整備され、旧水原町の町の花にもなっていた、アヤメやハスなどの花々が咲く事で知られています。
毎年6月から7月にかけて瓢湖あやめまつりを開催し、170種類約50万本の菖蒲の花の観賞や、夜にはボンボリによるライトアップも楽しめます。

新潟県三条市のしらさぎ森林公園は、源氏ホタルと平家ホタルが生息する蛍の名所としても知られる自然公園です。
毎年6月中旬～7月上旬には、花菖蒲まつりを開催し、約100種2万本の花菖蒲を観賞できます。
2021年から木道の張り替えと２ヶ所のテラスを設置する改修工事を開始し、リニューアルをしてから初めての、花菖蒲まつり開催となりました。

フロント・ロビー階が1階に移動し地下に大浴場も出来ました
