【福島／日本100名城】二本松城 - Nihonmatsu Castlein Fukushima, JAPAN / The Top 100 Castles in Japan / No.11 -
二本松城は、福島県二本松市にある日本百名城の一つ。戊辰戦争で、二本松少年隊と呼ばれた少年兵達の悲劇の舞台でもあります。寛永二十年（1643年）に、丹羽光重が10万700石で入封し、以後、丹羽家の居城として明治維新を迎えました。
二本松城は、中世から近世にかけて同じ場所で存続した東北では貴重な城で、中世城館から近世城郭への変貌の様子が知れる、当時の築城技術を知るうえで大変重要な城跡でもあります。
現在、二本松城は、霞ヶ城公園として整備され、本丸には天守台と石垣が近年になって復元されました。平成十八年（2006年）、日本100名城（11番）に選定され、平成十九年（2007年）には、二本松城跡として国の史跡に指定されています。
本丸跡からの眺望が絶景で、特に城の西側に安達太良山がそびえ、自然豊かな東北の景色を一望できます。

Nihonmatsu Castle is one of the top 100 castles in Japan, located in Nihonmatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture. It is also the stage of the tragedy of the young soldiers called Nihonmatsu Shonentai in the Boshin War. Mitsushige Niwa entered the castle in 1643. Since then, the castle has been the residence of the Niwa clan until the Meiji Restoration.
Nihonmatsu Castle is one of the rare castles in Tohoku that survived in the same location from the Middle Ages to the early modern period. It is an important castle site that shows the transformation from a medieval castle to a modern castle.
Today, Nihonmatsu castle is maintained as Kasumigajo park, and foundation of castle tower and stonewalls have been restored in recent years. In 2006, the castle was selected as one of the 100 best castles in Japan (No. 11). In 2007, the ruins of Nihonmatsu Castle were designated as a national historic site.
The view from the ruins of the main castle is spectacular, especially with Mount Adatara towering to the west of the castle, offering a panoramic view of the rich natural scenery of Tohoku.
