An area of various tourist spots ranging from an everlasting summer resort to regions of heavy snow

Area Characteristics

Located in the southern Tohoku region, Fukushima is the 3rd-largest prefecture after Hokkaido and Iwate. It is separated into 3 areas: Hamadori which runs along the Pacific coast by cities such as Iwaki, the central region of Nakadori which has the capital city of Fukushima and Koriyama, and the western region of Aizu which becomes covered in snow in the winter. Fukushima Prefecture is surrounded in beautiful nature with many famous mountains such as Mt. Bandai, lakes and the Pacific Ocean with plenty of winter sports.

Major Sites

There are 2 tourist areas for Fukushima. On Mt. Bandai which is considered to be one of Japan’s 100 Famous Mountains, there is Lake Inawashiro, Lake Goshiki and Tsuchiyu Onsen, and in historical Aizu-Wakamatsu, there is Aizu-Wakamatsu (Tsuruga) Castle, the Important Cultural Property of Sazae-do Hall, the Aizu Samurai Residences and other historic buildings. Other popular attractions include Spa Resort Hawaiians known for its hula girls, the Edo Era post station Ōuchi-juku and Hanamiyama which is famous for cherry blossoms.

Food

There are numerous examples of famous dishes ranging from regional cuisine such as ika ninjin (squid jerky and carrot strips) and miso kanpura (boiled potato with miso paste) to local dishes such as Kitakata ramen, enban gyoza dumplings, and namie yakisoba noodles. Also famous is the unique negi soba which has you picking up the noodles with one stalk of green onion in lieu of chopsticks, tama konnyaku, and tochi rice cakes.

Transportation

Fukushima can be reached from Tokyo by Tohoku Shinkansen (Bullet Train) in 1 hour and 40 minutes while Koriyama can be reached in 1 hour and 20 minutes. Moving around the area by rental car is convenient.

Accommodations

There are many hotels and similar facilities in transportation-accessible Fukushima and Koriyama along with areas such as Aizu. Because Mt. Bandai is a volcano, the surrounding area is known as an onsen region with many ryokan and hotels.

72 hours adventure in Fukushima, Iwaki City:A City with Food, Fun People and Hawaii

Do you think you know Fukushima? What you may have seen on the news or TV is totally different for what real Fukushima is. This time we have gone to city in Fukushima, Iwaki where hardly any foreign tourists have chosen as one of the their destinations in Japan even before the Covid-19! Even people living in Japan has never visited this small city, Now here we are to show you that this small city in the north of Japan is much more than anybody ever has expected with so many places, so many food to enjoy! We have spent only 72 hours in this city to see what this city is all about, and found out even for a city like this we just couldn't get enough! When you finish watching this video, you would want to go and enjoy what we had and hadn't been able to experience here
Thank you very much to the many wonderful and exciting people of Iwaki.

This video has been in collaboration with the 復興庁 : RECONSTRUCTION AGENCY

Notes about Daruma:

Daruma has its origin from India, and usually both or one of their eyes are left blank. Once a politician wins an election (or sports team), they would color in the eyes of the Daruma Dolls to celebrate, thus a Daruma doll is complete. We found out this was not a case with the Daruma Dolls in Iwaki as Takahashi-san has told us. These Iwaki Darumas are very unique, the designs are totally different from the ones you will find in Askakusa or any other places in Japan. WARNING: We have seen that there were fake Iwaki Darumas sold while our stay. Takahashi Darumas are the only certified Darumas in Iwaki so be careful!
Notes about the Shiramizu Amidado being the national treasure:
As mentioned, yes, Shiramizu Amidado is the only national treasure in Fukushima, as a structure. Currently there are 2 more national treasures which are a small Buddha doll and a scripture which are not regular shown to the public. If you want to see an actual National Treasure with your own eyes, the Amida-do in Iwaki is probably the best choice
Access to Iwaki:2.5 hours by car, or you can take the Super Hitachi Express train running from Ueno Station in Tokyo. It only costs around 60USD one way

Types of Japanese Girls You'll See in Japan

Are you interested in learning about the different lifestyles of women in Japan? Look no further! In this video, we explore the various lifestyle categories that Japanese women have been using to categorize themselves based on their personality, actions, and behaviors. We start off with bari-kyari women, who are the career-driven badasses of the bunch. Then we move on to yuri-kyari, the housewives who make amazing homes and cook delicious meals. Next up are iyashi women, who are the quintessential Japanese girls in movies and TV shows, and are just amazing people to be around. After that, we have the pretty privilege women of Minato-ku, who are cheerful, positive, fun to talk to, and have a great fashion sense. Finally, we explore the nikushoku women, who are known for their empowerment, exciting energy, and proactive approach to pursuing romantic relationships. We wrap up with a discussion of the himono-onna women, who are introverts that prefer to Netflix and chill. Remember, while these lifestyle categories can be fun to explore, everyone is an individual at the end of the day, and no one fits exactly into one category.

Through FUKUSHIMA to SENDAI & MATSUSHIMA // Japan Vlog - Episode 13

This is the start of Phase Three of my trip. I head to Sendai, but not without stopping in a few cities in Fukushima prefecture - Koriyama, Fukushima and Namie. I also take a day trip to Matsushima! It's a Pokémon heavy first half but a traditional sightseeing second half.

This is my series about my adventures in Japan from March to May of 2023. I wanted to vlog it and turn it into watchable episodes for my friends and family, but mostly for myself to re-watch in the future.

Fukushima disaster area tour from Tokyo [Long version.]

Have you ever had the opportunity to visit Fukushima?
The Great East Japan Earthquake struck the Tohoku coast of Japan on March 11, 2011, leaving an indelible mark of terror and shock. This cataclysmic event, measuring a magnitude of 9.0-9.1, stands as the most powerful earthquake ever recorded in Japan's history. The ensuing tsunami, reaching a staggering height of 40.5 meters, surged inland up to 10 km. The devastating consequences of this disaster are grim, with over 15,000 lives lost and approximately 2,500 individuals still unaccounted for. Tragically, Japan also faced the challenge of regaining control over the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.

Embarking on this tour will grant us an opportunity to visit the coastal area that endured the earthquakes, tsunami, and the profound impact of the nuclear accident. While there is a plethora of information available on the internet, it is crucial to exercise caution, as some accounts lack concrete evidence, tarnishing the reputation of the entire Fukushima prefecture. By witnessing Fukushima with your own eyes, you will behold the truth of the disaster—a life-changing experience. Through our participation, we aim to contribute to the restoration efforts in the Fukushima area, fostering hope and healing for the region.

Visit to Fukushima Exclusion Zone in 2019.

A recap of the tour through the Fukushima's Exclusion Zone in 2019 organized by Real Fukushima agency.
We travelled in January 2019. and visited Namie, Ranch of hope , Okuma and surrounding area and learned a lot about the aftermath of the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear meltdowns. A lot of workers prevented an even greater catastrophe and are now trying to rebuild the area.

EDIT: At 22:05 I say it is still going after 8 and a half years, it should have been after almost 8 years, I apologise

SAKURA Cherry ???? BLOSSOM of Minami Soma ☢️ Fukushima 2023 by Adeyto

Fukushima is full of Cherry blossom ???? Sakura trees not only along the main roads and rivers but also in the mountains and forests, everywhere you look you will find some white flowery areas. The area that is closest to Daiichi Nuclear Power Station has all roads sealed and it is forbidden to enter, all houses or shops in that specific area of Namie are out of reach. But other parts are back to normal life, if the locals didn't return, people from other parts of Japan moved here and started new businesses, small eateries and craft foods. Rapeseed oil grown here is successfully used in high end cosmetics and cuisine.

[1 minute guide] Day trip to Fukushima within 20km of nuclear power plant

We organize day tour to Fukushima within 20 km of nuclear power plant.

We had a big earthquake on 11th March 2011.
At that time huge Tsunami attacked north east Japan and nuclear power plant in Fukushima was broken.

Prime minister Abe said it's under control.
Actually it's under control. Many people can't go back to their home. Many people still work at there.

It's worth to visit there.

Details here.

Fukushima: Namie (浪江町) - Japan Walking Tour (July 21, 2021)

Namie (浪江町, Namie-machi) is a town located in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan. As of 29 February 2020 the town has a population of 1238 in 794 households, although the official registered population was 17,114 in 6853 households. The total area of the town is 223.14 square kilometres (86.15 sq mi). The town was evacuated as a result of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster—being directly downwind from the power plant—and was within the exclusion zone set up in response to the disaster. Following ongoing clean-up efforts, Namie's business district and town hall have reopened, but access to more heavily contaminated western parts of the town remains restricted.

Fukushima Japanese High School After A Disaster

A Japanese High School with a unique concept in Fukushima that is the first of its kind.

Fukushima Futaba Mirai Gakuen (a.k.a Futaba Future High School) opened two years ago near the evacuation zone of the nuclear power plant in Fukushima for the young students living in the area.

Ever since the tsunami, all I have seen and heard on the media is the negative things about Fukushima - I mean I get it, that’s what makes the headlines and catches peoples attention… and I have to admit even for me, before going to Fukushima, I pretty much had a negative connotation when someone brought up the word Fukushima.

I thought it was a dangerous place to go because of the radiation etc… However, after going this time, I realised that wasn’t the case.
I felt behind all the negative things said in the media, were all these locals trying to get their voices heard by trying to make a movement and help their community become a better place.

So I had to make this video to help them spread the word and show people another side of Fukushima and their kind welcoming locals who are open to share with you their stories.

Thank you to all the students/teachers and locals I met. You guys are an inspiration. Keep on doing what you do!!!!!!
