Naldurg Fort – Historical Background :
Naldurg which was formerly a district headquarter is situated about 50 Kms. south-east of Osmanabad. The fort which is an interesting place has enclosed a surface of a knoll or plantain of basalt rock which is jutted out into the valley or raving of the small river Bori. Along the rest of the cliff on three sides ran fortifications. bastion firmly built out have deseed basalt and are large enough to carry heavy guns. The entire circumference is about a mile and a half.

The most interesting building which connects the fort and the Ranmandala is the dam constructed across the bori river, the dam and the” pani mahal, which is built underaatch and in the middle of the dam were, constructed. During the reign of Ibrahim Adil shah II. The fort is said to have been originally built by a Hindu Raja who was a vassal of the Chalukya kings of kalyani. It was latter included in the dominions of the Bahamanis and was subsequently taken over by the Adil shahi kings of bijapur, from whom it passed in the hands of mughalain the year 1686.A.D.

Naldurg is a famous ancient fort in Dharashiv (Osmanabad) district of Maharashtra and the largest fort in Bhuikot fort in Maharashtra. Its embankment is almost 3 km. It is spread long and interestingly, this fort has 114 bastions.
In Maharashtra, there are many hillforts, Jaldurgs and many characteristic Bhuidurg or Bhuikot forts. Among all these Bhuikot forts, the most important fort is Naldurg fort.
Now the fort is a protected monument of the Department of Archeology, Government of Maharashtra.

HISTORY -
Naldurg fort was built during the reign of Adil Shah,this name was given during Nizamshahi period. Later Nala Raja captured this fort, and the name of Aliabad was changed to Naldurg.
Local people trace the history of Naldurga back to Nalraja and Damayanti Rani. This fort was under the control of the Chalukya king of Kalyani. Later it came under the control of Bahamani Sultans. After that, Adil Shahi of Bijapur, in which Shahya was born captured Naldurg. Later, Aurangzeb, a Mughal emperor, conquered Naldurg and entrusted it to the Nizam of Hyderabad.

PLACES TO SEE IN THE FORT -
There is a large moat around the fort for protection. It has a double wall on its inner side. On the plateau next to the fort there is a fortified area as a battlement.

It also includes some Hindu temples like Ganapati Mahal, Lakshmi Mahal which are attractive to see.

This fort has a waterfall for which this fort is famous. This waterfall is called Nal-Damayanti these two waterfalls are around.

A wall like a dam has been built between RANMANDAL and NALDURG to keep this water. Due to this wall, water is permanently stored in the trench. So, the enemy cannot enter the fort from this side.

We can see the construction of Buruj (bastions) of different sizes, different types. The fort is located in the fortifications on the side of the Hyderabad highway. This beautiful tower has nine petals. This is why it is called Navburuj.

The dam containing the water palace in Naladurg fort is a tourist attraction. Jalmahal is located in the embankment connecting Ranmandal and Naladurg. This embankment is 19 to 20 meters high. The embankment has four floors. There is a stairway leading to this floor in the belly of the embankment.

UPLI BURUJ – The watch tower is the tallest building in the fort

How advanced military science was even three to four hundred years ago. This is strong proof of this. Tourists flock every year to witness the panoramic view of the water falling from this palace during monsoons.

नळदुर्ग हा भारताच्या महाराष्ट्र राज्यातील उस्मानाबाद जिल्ह्यामधील एक किल्ला आहे. नळदुर्ग किल्ला हे एक प्रसिद्ध प्राचीन किल्ला आहे.

नळदुर्ग हा महाराष्ट्रातील भुईकोट किल्ल्यातील सर्वांत मोठा किल्ला आहे. याची तटबंदी जवळजवळ ३ कि.मी. लांब पसरलेली आहे. या तटबंदीत ११४ बुरूज आहेत. महाराष्ट्राच्या गिरिदुर्ग, जलदुर्गांबरोबरच अनेक वैशिष्ट्यपूर्ण भुईदुर्ग किंवा भुईकोट किल्ले आहेत. या भुईकोट किल्ल्यांमध्ये महत्त्वाचा असा किल्ला म्हणजे नळदुर्ग होय. सदर किल्ला हा महाराष्ट्र शासनाच्या पुरातत्व विभागाचे संरक्षित स्मारक आहे. यामध्ये हिंदू धर्माच्या काही मंदिरांचा सुद्धा समावेश आहे जसे की गणपती महाल, लक्ष्मी महाल हे पाहण्यासाठी आकर्षक आहेत. येथे धबधबा आहे त्यासाठीहि हा किल्ला प्रसिद्ध आहे
हा प्रंचड किल्ला अडीच कि.मी.घेराचा असून अजूनही सुस्थितीत आहे. या किल्ल्याजवळून वाहणा-या बोरी नदीचे पाणी अडवून त्याचा उपयोग दुर्ग राक्षणासाठी केलेला फक्त येथेच आढळतो. तीन – चारशे वर्षापूर्वी देखील लष्करी शास्त्र किती पुढारलेले होते. याचा हा सबळ पुरावाच आहे. पावसाळ्यात या पाणी महालावरून पडणा-या पाहण्याचे विहंगमदृश्य पाहण्यासाठी दरवर्षी पर्यटक येतात.

नळदुर्ग हा भारताच्या महाराष्ट्र राज्यातील धाराशिव (उस्मानाबाद) जिल्ह्यामधील एक किल्ला आहे. नळदुर्ग किल्ला हे एक प्रसिद्ध प्राचीन किल्ला आहे. नळदुर्ग हा महाराष्ट्रातील भुईकोट किल्ल्यातील सर्वांत मोठा किल्ला आहे. याची तटबंदी जवळजवळ ३ कि.मी. लांब पसरलेली आहे. या तटबंदीत ११४ बुरूज आहेत. महाराष्ट्राच्या गिरिदुर्ग, जलदुर्गांबरोबरच अनेक वैशिष्ट्यपूर्ण भुईदुर्ग किंवा भुईकोट किल्ले आहेत. या भुईकोट किल्ल्यांमध्ये महत्त्वाचा असा किल्ला म्हणजे नळदुर्ग होय. सदर किल्ला हा महाराष्ट्र शासनाच्या पुरातत्त्व विभागाचे संरक्षित स्मारक आहे. यामध्ये हिंदू धर्माच्या काही मंदिरांचा सुद्धा समावेश आहे जसे की गणपती महाल, लक्ष्मी महाल हे पाहण्यासाठी आकर्षक आहेत. येथे धबधबा आहे त्यासाठीहि हा किल्ला प्रसिद्ध
सध्याच्या नळदुर्ग किल्ल्याची उत्तम बांधणी आदिलशहाच्या काळामध्ये झालेली आहे. संरक्षणासाठी किल्ल्याच्या भोवती मोठ्या भागात खंदक आहे. त्याच्या आतल्या बाजूला दुहेरी तटबंदी आहे. किल्ल्याच्या बाजूच्या पठारावर रणमंडळ म्हणून तटबंदीने युक्त असा भाग आहे. रणमंडळ आणि नळदुर्ग यांच्यामध्ये असलेला खंदक खोल करण्यात आला असून त्यात पाणी आहे. हे पाणी बोरी नदीचा प्रवाह अडवून तो वळवून या खंदकात आणण्यात आला. हे पाणी कायम रहावे म्हणून रणमंडळ आणि नळदुर्ग या मध्ये धरणाच्या बंधाऱ्यासारखी भिंत बांधण्यात आली आहे. या भिंतीमुळे खंदकामध्ये कायमस्वरूपी पाणी साठून रहाते. त्यामुळे या बाजूने शत्रूला किल्ल्यामध्ये शिरकाव करता येत नाही. खंदक आणि नदीचा प्रवाह याने अभेदता निर्माण करून आतमध्ये शंभरावर बुरुजांनी जोडलेली भक्कम तटबंदी आहे. वेगवेगळ्या आकाराच्या, वेगवेगळ्या प्रकारच्या बुरुजांचे बांधकाम आपल्याला दिसून येते. यामध्ये वैशिष्ट्यपूर्ण असलेला नवबुरुज आपल्या लक्षात रहातो. हैद्राबाद महामार्गाच्या बाजूला असलेल्या तटबंदीमध्ये हा बुरूज आहे. या भल्याथोरल्या बुरुजाला नऊ पाकळ्या आहेत. यामुळे याला नवबुरुज म्हणतात. असे बांधकाम इतरत्र कोठेही पहायला मिळत नाही. नळदुर्ग किल्ल्यामधील जलमहाल असणारा बंधारा हे पर्यटकांचे आकर्षणाचे ठिकाण आहे. रणमंडळ आणि नळदुर्ग यांना जोडणाऱ्या बंधाऱ्यामध्ये जलमहाल आहे. हा बंधारा १९ ते २० मीटर उंच आहे. बंधाऱ्यामध्ये चार मजले आहेत. बंधाऱ्याच्या पोटातील या मजल्यामध्ये जाण्यासाठी पायऱ्यांचा मार्ग आहे. बंधाऱ्याच्या पोटामध्ये अर्ध्या उंचीवर हा जलमहाल बांधलेला असून याच्या खिडक्या नक्षीदार महिरपीने सजवलेल्या आहेत. याच्या भिंतीवर फारशी लिपीतील शिलालेख आहे. शिलालेखात सांगितले आहे की, या जलमहालाकडे दृष्टी टाकल्यास मित्रांचे डोळे प्रसन्नतेने उजळतील तर शत्रूच्या डोळ्यापुढे अंधारी येईल. पावसाळ्यामध्ये पाणी वाढल्यावर या बंधाऱ्यामधून वाहून जाण्यासाठी दोन मार्ग ठेवलेले असून त्यांना नर व मादी अशी नावे आहेत.

नळदुर्ग किल्ला हा त्याची रचना, संरक्षण व्यवस्था, टेहळणीचा उपळ्या बुरूज, त्यावरील लांब तोफ,धबधबा, दरवाजाचा वक्राकार मार्ग वगैरेंमुळे चांगलाच लक्षात रहातो.

Naldurg Fort - Naldurg, Maharashtra

Naldurg Fort is a historic fort in Naldurg town of Osmanabad district in Maharashtra state of India. Naldurg Fort is named after Nalraja who built the fort in medieval architectural style. The unique feature of the fort is that it encloses a knoll of basalt rock which juts out into the valley of the small Bori River and a long fortification wall with many bastions.
Naldurg which was formerly a district headquarter is situated about 50 Kms. south-east of Osmanabad. The fort which is an interesting place has enclosed a surface of a knoll or plantain of basalt rock which is jutted out into the valley or raving of the small river Bori. Along the rest of the cliff on three sides ran fortifications. bastion firmly built out have deseed basalt and are large enough to carry heavy guns. The entire circumference is about a mile and a half.

The fort has many bastions amongst which are upli Buruj, which is the height point in the fort paranda Buruj , nagar Buruj, Sangam Burug, Sangram Buruj, Bands Buruj, poone Buruj, etc. Inside the fort there are remains of the walls and some of the building such a Barood kotha, Baradari, Ambarkhana, Rangaan mahal, Jali etc. Though the buildings are in ruins the remains give a impression that there night have been at one time the specious buildings, There are two tanks in the fort known as machali guns amongst which important are the “hathi toph” and magar Toph”, The hathi Darwaza and the hurmukh and the hurmukh darwaza are the main gates of the fort. The most interesting building which connects the fort and the Ranmandala is the dam constructed across the bori river, the dam and the” pani mahal, which is built underaatch and in the middle of the dam were, constructed. During the reign of Ibrahim Adil shah II. The fort is said to have been originally built by a Hindu Raja who was a vassal of the Chalukya kings of kalyani. It was latter included in the dominions of the Bahamanis and was subsequently taken over by the Adil shahi kings of bijapur, from whom it passed in the hands of mughalain the year 1686.A.D.
How to Reach:
By Road it is 35 km from Tuljapur, 50 km from Osmanabad, 50 km from Solapur.

NALDURG FORT SECRETS - शिवकालीन नळदुर्ग किल्ला : Naldurg Fort is one of the largest forts in Osmanabad district of Maharashtra state. Naldurg Fort is named after Nalraja who built the fort in medieval architectural style. Naldurg fort was built in the Chalukya period by the kings of Kalyani, but the massive fortification wall of this fort was built during Bahamani kings (1351- 1480) and Adil Shahi (1558). In 1631, Pani Mahal was constructed by Ibrahim Adilshah II

नलदुर्ग किल्ला हा महाराष्ट्र राज्यातील उस्मानाबाद जिल्ह्यातील सर्वात मोठा शिवकालीन किल्ला आहे. नलदुर्ग किल्ल्याचे नाव नलराजा यांनी ठेवले ज्याने मध्यकालीन स्थापत्य शैलीत हा किल्ला बांधला होता. नलदुर्ग किल्ला चालुक्य काळात कल्याणीच्या राजांनी बांधला होता, परंतु या किल्ल्याची भव्य तटबंदी बहामनी राजांनी (१३५१- १४८०) आणि आदिल शाही (१५५८) यांनी बनविली होती. इ.स. १६३१ मध्ये पाणी महल इब्राहिम आदिलशहा २ यांनी बांधला.
