Our hosts rode the JR Kyushu 36+3 special express train!
Designed with the concept of “packing everything Kyushu into a single ride,” the 36+3 has five different routes for each day of the week running between Thursday and Monday.
This time, our hosts rode the Sunday route, which departs from Oita Station in Oita Prefecture bound for Hakata Station in Fukuoka Prefecture.
Each of the train’s carriages boast “green” first-class seating imbued with a dignified classiness.
There are “Green Carriages,” where you can take off your shoes and unwind on tatami-matted flooring, private “Green Rooms” to fully relax in comfort while on the move, and more.
The 4th “Lounge Car (Multi-purpose space)” carriage offers free space and hosts regular onboard events differing by season and route, along with other fun experiences showcasing the diverse charms of Kyushu.
In this video, our hosts were able to try eating “konpeito” Japanese sugar candy.
At the 3rd carriage buffet, passengers can savor the rich cuisine culture of Kyushu with bento boxes made from local ingredients, desserts, and a drinks menu featuring sake and more flaunting regional tastes.
The train also treats passengers to 15-minute stops in Oita Prefecture at Kitsuki Station, a castle town dubbed “Kyushu’s Little Kyoto,” and Nakatsu Station, famous for its karaage deep fried chicken.
While only short, each stopover is sure to leave lasting memories as you shop for local specialities and feel the warmth of locals.
The train will also stop for around 60 minutes at Mojiko Station in Fukuoka Prefecture, giving one plenty of free time to explore and try the local food at this charming port town bristling with nostalgic Taisho Era flair.
The next stop is at Kokura Station, which functions as the gateway to Kyushu, and has bullet train lines connecting much of Japan.
The final destination of Hakata Station also provides seamless access to Fukuoka Airport, which is considered one of the world’s most convenient airports for stress-free travel.
To thoroughly soak in your trip around Kyushu, we definitely recommend a ride on the JR Kyushu 36+3!

Nakatsu is a castle town centered on Nakatsu Castle, which is open to visitors. The modernised interior comprises a museum with samurai armor, old maps and information about Rangaku (Dutch studies), for which Nakatsu was an important center in the Edo era. There are views from the top of the castle keep.[citation needed]
Visitors can see the residence of the most celebrated member of the Okudaira clan of Nakatsu, Fukuzawa Yukichi, and the memorial hall there. It is close to the castle and a 15-minute walk from the station.[citation needed]
Nakatsu's Mt. Hachimen was home to the popular music festival, Concert on the Rock.[cGeography[edit]
Nakatsu is in the northwest corner of Ōita Prefecture, Kyushu. To the east of Nakatsu is Usa and to the southwest is Hita. Nakatsu touches the border of Fukuoka Prefecture on its west. To the northeast is the Suohnada Sea. The city covers an area of 491.09 square kilometers, 80% of which is mountainous. There is a wide stretch of flat, agricultural land which begins at the mouth of Yamakuni River and extends to Mt. Hiko.[citation needed]

Nakatsu gorge is wonderful place to visit. The downstream river of this gorge Niyodo river is a famous river as one of best clarity water river in Japan selected by Japanese government. The stream water is very transparent and shows us very special green blue color. Also, we can see many unique shape huge rocks along with walking pass. We can enjoy walking through natural tunnels or over narrow bridges keep watching beautiful water flow. There is a beautiful fall as well. It is recommending to save for 2 to 4hrs to walk through this gorge path.

【Japan 1minute Travel KOCHI Nakatsu Gorge 】高知 仁淀川 中津渓谷（美しき清流仁淀川の映像）
ここは、四国の真ん中ぐらいに位置する仁淀川町にある中津渓谷。
仁淀川は石鎚山などの源流から太平洋の河口に注ぐ流路延長１２４キロと四国では吉野川、四万十川に次ぐ河川です。
水質は全国１位（２０１０年）で、水面が青く美しいことから「仁淀ブルー」と呼ばれています。
この中津渓谷は仁淀川の上流部にあり、普段は仁淀ブルーな清流でとても美しいはずですが、ボクがお邪魔した日の何日か前に大雨が降り増水と山からの土砂で多少濁ってました。
それでも、この美しさ！！
滝からのミストも陽光に照らされキラキラと輝き、かなり濡れましたがとても気持ちいい時間でした。滝も撮影したかったのですが水量が半端なくメチャ怖い映像になりそうだったので諦めました。笑
今度は是非ともコンディションの良い時に再訪したいものです。

中津峡（なかつきょう）は、埼玉県の奥秩父エリアにある峡谷で、紅葉の名所として知られており「日本の紅葉百選」に選定されています。荒川の源流のひとつ、中津川の上流に位置し、約10kmにわたり複雑に入り組んだV字谷が続きます。高さ100mにも及ぶ断崖絶壁や奇岩群、岩間から流れ落ちる小滝も点在し、紅葉した木々との組合せは絶品です。「女郎もみじ」と呼ばれるモミジの巨木も見所の一つです。
女郎もみじは樹齢300年以上ともいわれるモミジの巨木で、かつて紅葉狩りを楽しむ二人の男女がお酒で酔いしれて踊りだし、ちょうどその場にあった2本のモミジが二人のあでやかな姿に重なり、いつしか「女郎もみじ」と呼ばれるようになったのだとか･･･
中津峡の奥地から群馬県へ抜ける「林道金山志賀坂線」では「日本百名山」の一つに数えられる両神山（りょうかみさん）も望めます。両神山は秩父山地の北端にある山で標高は1,723ｍです。

中津峡へのアクセスは、秩父市街から奥秩父へ通じる国道140号で滝沢ダムへ進み、「奥秩父もみじ湖」を横目にさらに東へ進むと県道210号へ入ります。この県道から先が中津峡で、沿道にいくつか駐車スペースも整備されていますので、散策の拠点に便利です。
中津峡は、色鮮やかな渓谷と壮大な山岳風景を楽しめる紅葉名所です！
Nakatsu-kyo Valley is located in the Oku-Chichichibu area of Saitama Prefecture and is known as one of the best places to see the autumn leaves and has been selected as one of Japan's 100 best Autumn Leaves.
It is located upstream of the Nakatsu River, one of the headwaters of the Arakawa River, and has an intricate V-shaped valley that extends for about 10 km.
It is dotted with cliffs as high as 100m high, groups of oddly-shaped rocks and small waterfalls flowing down from between the rocks, and the combination of these with the autumnal leaves is a masterpiece. The huge maple tree called Jorou-momiji is also a highlight of the valley.
Ryokami-san, one of the 100 most famous mountains in Japan, can be seen on the Forest Road Kanayama Shiga-Saka Line, which runs from the depths of the Nakatsukyo to Gunma Prefecture. Ryokami-san is located at the northern end of the Chichibu Mountains at an altitude of 1,723m.

Rakanji Temple, Nakatsu Oita - 羅漢寺●大分中津市 - Japan As It Truly Is
Rakanji is a rare and beautiful cave temple in Oita - with rakan figurines, elegant caves and spoons. A marvel rarely seen anywhere.
Rakanji was founded in 1337, then after a fire in 1943, it was recreated in 1969. It's a Soto Zen temple with over 3700 stone buddhas (rakan) enshrined in its caves - some of the oldest in Japan.
Since Rakanji is on a mountain, you can either climb to the top yourself, or pay for a lift to reach the temple. So what's with the spoons you will ask? It is actually a Japanese pun - to scoop something (like rice) in Japanese is sukuu, and the same homonym is used for to save, as a life through their faith. People write their wishes and hang them on the fence, just as in other places - these are called ema (絵馬).

Yabakei, located in Nakatsu City, northwestern Oita Prefecture, is a scenic spot lined with dynamic rock formations born from erosion of a plateau formed by volcanic activity. It has long been popular as one of Oita’s most picturesque locations, and is particularly stunning in autumn when adorned by colorful maple foliage, attracting many visitors bearing cameras.
This time, our hosts toured the Maple Yaba Cycling Road, which lets you cycle alongside Yabakei. The route is approximately 21.7 miles, and it uses the former Yabakei Railway, which once connected Nakatsu and Morimi Onsen for 63 years between 1913-1975.
First, our hosts chose their ride at the Yabakei Cycling Terminal. They have all kinds of bicycles available for rent, from road bikes to electric bikes. Our hosts opted for a more leisurely ride with an electric bike!
Their first destination was Keisekien, a 2 ha Japanese-style garden opened to commemorate the construction of Yabakei Dam. This dazzling garden stuns throughout the seasons, particularly during its Insta-worthy autumn foliage period. Within is also Japanese Garden Chokatsu Sobaya Keisekien, a restaurant serving the rare charcoal-flavored soba.
Continuing further down the Yamakuni River, our hosts soon came across Goryo Shrine, which is known for its beautiful maple leaves that peak around the end of autumn. After silently appreciating the enchanting Goryo Momiji maples, they entered the Maple Yaba Cycling Road. This course is packed with highlights, like Yabakei Bridge, the longest stone bridge in Japan; Aonodomon, a 1122 ft tunnel built over 30 years; plus old railway river bridges and more. Our hosts had a blast taking in the railway relics, placid countryside scenery, thickets of trees, and refreshing pristine streams!
With gentle hills and diverse scenery, the Maple Yaba Cycling Road is perfect for families and beginners, too. Combined with a soak in a hot spring, it’s a healthy and fun way to enjoy the autumn scenery of Oita!
