10. Koya-san
Koya-san or Mount Koya is the most important site in Shingon Buddhism, a sect that has been practiced in Japan since 805 when it was introduced by Kobo Daishi. It remains the headquarters for the sect and the small town that grew up around the temple. The site of Kobo Daishi’s mausoleum, this wooded Mount Koya is also the starting and ending place of the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage.
9. Ishigaki
Located west of Okinawa, Ishigaki is Japan’s premier beach destination and makes a good base to explore the other islands in the Yaeyama archipelago. Blessed with Japan’s best beaches, it is particularly popular with families since the beaches at Fusaki and Maezato are net-protected. Located 1,250 miles (2,000 kilometers) south of Tokyo, Ishigaki may not have the shrines and temples that other Japanese cities have.
8. Kanazawa
In the mid-nineteenth century Kanazawa was Japan’s 4th largest city, built around a grand castle and the beautiful garden. Today, the capital of Ishikawa Prefecture continues to cultivate the arts and contains an attractive old town. Having escaped bombing during World War II, traditional inner-city areas, such as Nagamachi with its samurai houses and the charming geisha teahouse district of Higashi Chaya, remain intact and are a joy to wander around.
7. Hiroshima
Hiroshima, located on Honshu Island, is younger than many Japanese cities, less than 500 years old, but its fate was forever sealed in history on August 6, 1945, when it became the first city in the world to have an atomic bomb dropped on it. Thus, the city’s attractions center around peace: Peace Park, Peace Memorial and Peace Memorial Museum. The city also has attractions that invoke more pleasant thoughts, such as Hiroshima Castle and the sunken garden of Shukkein-en.
6. Kamakura
Located on the coast less than an hour from Tokyo, Kamakura was once an important town, the seat of a military government that ruled Japan for a hundred years. Today, it’s a relaxed seaside resort sometimes called the Kyoto of eastern Japan because of its many temples and shrines. Its most famous sight is the Daibutsu, a huge bronze Buddha statue surrounded by trees, but the town’s ancient Zen temples are equally compelling.

Nikko is a small town at the entrance to Nikko National Park, most famous for Toshogu, Japan’s most lavishly decorated shrine and the mausoleum of Tokugawa Ieyasu. Another popular attraction is the red-lacquered Shin-kyō bridge. One of the popular places to visit in Japan, the national park offers scenic mountainous landscapes, lakes, waterfalls, wild monkeys and many hiking trails.
4. Takayama
Visitors who long for peace and quiet after the hustling pace of Japan’s big cities may want to head to the tourist town of Hida-Takayama where they can experience life in a rural setting. Located near the northern Japan Alps, Takayama is well known for having one of the best-preserved old towns in Japan. The prettiest section of the old city is called Sanmachi.

Nara, once known as Heijo, was the first permanent capital of Japan, established in 710. The capital was moved to Nagaoka in 784 when the government was threatened by powerful Buddhist monasteries. Located less than an hour from Kyoto, seeing Japan’s oldest and largest temples is a popular tourist activity.

8月2日と3日は長岡花火の日。今年も例年通りに長岡に行ってきました。花火撮影を始めた2015年から一度も欠かさず8月2日と3日は長岡に足を運んでいます。
このYoutubeチャネルでも2015年から毎年、長岡花火のメインプログラムでもある復興祈願花火フェニックスの映像を公開してきました。
昨年、新型コロナの影響で花火大会は中止。そこで、昨年2020年は2019年に撮影した映像の中から公開していなかったフェニックスの映像をアップしました。
今年も昨年に引き続き花火大会は中止。6年間続いたフェニックスの映像公開、今年は難しいな。。。と思っていました。
そんな中、長岡滞在中の8月3日、スーパーマーケット原信で買い物をしていると、BGMで平原綾香のジュピター(復興祈願花火フェニックスで使用されている楽曲)が流れ、長岡市民のみなさんにとって復興祈願花火フェニックスがどれだけ特別なものなのかを再認識しました。
そこで、東京へ戻って来て直ぐに、今まで撮影、編集してきたフェニックスの映像を再度見直し、それらの映像を纏めて本動画を作成しました。
僕がこのフェニックスを生で見て鳥肌が立つくらい感動したその体験を、より多くの皆様にお伝えしたいという思いから、毎年フェニックスを撮影、編集、公開して来ました。
今年2021年は東京オリンピック開催年。世界中の人々が日本を訪れ、このフェニックスの花火を、長岡市民の思いを、世界中の人々に見てもらう事を夢見てきました。
その願いもむなしく、オリンピックで世界中から人々が訪れる事も無く、さらにオリンピックイヤーに長岡花火大会が開催される事もなく、2021年の8月2日と3日が過ぎ去ってしまいました。
僕がこのフェニックスで感動したその思いを、この拙い映像で一人でも多くの皆様に少しでも感じていただく事ができれば光栄です。
最後に昨年と同じメッセージになってしまいますが、早くコロナが終息し、来年こそは是非あの素晴らしい長岡花火が見れる事をみなさんと一緒に祈りつつ、今年はこの動画で長岡花火を楽しんでいただければと思います。

This video is a compilation movie of the Nagaoka fireworks Phoenix displays which is made from footage I took in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 at the Nagaoka Fireworks Festival.
Unfortunately, Nagaoka Fireworks Festival was canceled due to the COVID-19 this year again.
The festival was supposed to be held this week if the nightmare is not happening.
I was hoping and dreaming for a long time that many people from all over the world would visit Japan because of the Tokyo Olympics, and also visit Nagaoka to watch this amazing fireworks display.
But my dream didn't come true, sadly.
Dazzling music starmine fireworks display Phoenix from Nagaoka Fireworks Festival on Aug 3rd, 2019 at city of Nagaoka, Niigata prefecture.
The Nagaoka Fireworks Festival is known as the best and the most beautiful Fireworks Festival in Japan ( even in the world ) for many people.
This awesome show is praying for this region(Niigata)'s reconstruction from Niigata Chuuetsu Earthquake in 2004, Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, and the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake.
This show is also expressing the world peace and wish to change all bombs in the world into these fireworks.
Nagaoka fireworks festival (especially this Phoenix display) attracts thousands of people not only because of this huge scale and the impressive quality of the show but also it is representing a prayer for peace in the world.
This breathtaking Phoenix show actually made me cry and hope more people to feel and have the same experience that I had there through watching this movie.

Q: How long was the trip?
A: Around 18 days. But I would say it's doable in 2 weeks. If you want more time to explore then 3 weeks should be more than adequate.
Q: How many days do I need in each city?
A: I would say 3-5 days in Kyoto and Osaka. Nara 1-2 days. At least 4-6 days in Tokyo but the more the better.
Q: How much did it cost?
A: Excluding hotels + airplane tickets we had a budget of around 2000 USD
Q: Is there vegan restaurant options in Japan?
A: Yes, I found plenty, and most restaurants offer vegan-friendly meals
Q: Which month did you go?

2022年 長岡まつり大花火大会/From the Nagaoka Festival Grand Fireworks Show held in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture Japan from August 2nd to 3rd, 2022, one of Japan's three major fireworks festivals, we watched and filmed the Nagaoka Fireworks on August 2nd.
This year's Reconstruction Prayer Fireworks Phoenix, which is also a large program of Nagaoka Fireworks, was carried out with Ayaka Hirahara's Jupiter.

長岡花火の大型プログラムでもある今年の復興祈願花火フェニックスは、平原綾香さんのJupiterフルバージョンで実施されました。
また、大型プログラムでは、NHK大河ドラマ「天地人」の放送を記念して作られたワイドミュージックスターマイン「天地人花火」を野村花火工業㈱が担当、終盤には宇崎竜童さんが作曲し阿木 燿子さんが作詞した「故郷はひとつ」に合わせたワイドミュージックスターマインを㈱マルゴーが担当しております。

The big program is HanabiIn home,one,Revival Prayer fireworksPhoenix of fireworks and Taiga Star mineTenchijin Hanabi and more programs. The right bank on the first day had a lot of smoke, and there were many fireworks that were hard to see, but on the second day we could see in a clear and clear situation with good wind direction.

2017年8月2日と3日に新潟県長岡市で開催、長岡まつり大花火大会 2日間の総集編2時間スペシャル映像です。
日本三大花火の一つである長岡花火は両日ともに、慰霊と平和への祈りをこめた白菊3発から始まり、花火「故郷はひとつ」、中越地震からの復興を願ってスタートした復興祈願花火フェニックス、花火物語「この空の花」、大河スターマイン「天地人花火」など、2日間にわたる美しい花火の数々を収録しています。
どちらとも右岸有料席内から撮影、1日目の右岸は煙が多く見えにくい花火も多かったのですが、2日目は風向きも良くすっきりとしてクリアな状況で見る事ができました。

We usually visit Nagaoka in January when its covered in Snow. We were there in September just recently which had great weather apart from the Typhoons ravaging parts of the country. We checked out some of my wifes hometown attractions that I havn't seen before. How cool is that spinning tower? : )

2017年 長岡まつり大花火大会 震災復興祈願花火「フェニックス13」/Earthquake Reconstruction prayer FireworksPhoenix of Fireworks 13 From the Nagaoka Fireworks Festival held in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture Japan on August 3, 2017.
This fireworks started in the year after the Great Earthquake, praying for the reconstruction from the Niigata Prefecture Chuetsu Earthquake that occurred in 2004.
This fireworks which is done on a spectacular scaled of 2000 meters width and using Ayaka Hirahara's Jupiter as a theme song.
This year was also named Phoenix of fireworks 13 as a wish to have reached 10 years since the Niigata Chuetsu Earthquake.It was an impressive fireworks spanning 5 minutes 10 seconds, which has a longer launch time than usual, and about 2000.

2017年8月3日、新潟県長岡市で開催、日本三大花火の一つでもある長岡まつり大花火大会から、震災復興祈願花火「フェニックス13」の8K超高精細映像です。この花火は2004年に発生した新潟県中越地震からの復興と被災した方々を元気付けようと大震災翌年の長岡花火でスタート、地震発生後にラジオ局で視聴者からのリクエストが多かった平原綾香さんのジュピターをテーマ曲に、日本一の規模を誇る打ち上げ幅2000メートルの壮大なスケールで行われる感動花火です。
今年は中越地震から13年目を迎え「フェニックス13」と名付けられ、例年よりも打ち上げ時間の長い5分10秒、玉数は約2000発にも及ぶ心に残る花火でした。
全国各地で相次ぐ自然災害の被害を受け、苦しい生活を余儀なくされている方々が一日でも早く落ち着いた生活を取り戻せますように。
