ময়মনসিংহ নামকরণ:
ময়মনসিংহ বাংলাদেশের বাংলাদেশের অষ্টম বিভাগীয় শহর ও কনিষ্ঠতম সিটি কর্পোরেশন। ময়মনসিংহ জেলার নামকরণ নিয়ে ইতিহাসবিদদের মাঝে ভিন্ন মত প্রচলিত আছে। আর ষোড়শ শতাব্দীতে বাংলার স্বাধীন সুলতান সৈয়দ আলাউদ্দিন হোসেন শাহ তার পুত্র সৈয়দ নাসির উদ্দিন নসরত শাহ’র জন্য এ অঞ্চলে একটি নতুন রাজ্য গঠন করেছিলেন, সেই থেকেই নসরতশাহী বা নাসিরাবাদ নামের সৃষ্টি। মুসলিম যুগের উৎস হিসেবে নাসিরাবাদ নামটিও আজ শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠান ছাড়া আর কোথাও উল্লেখ করা হচ্ছে না। ১৭৭৯-তে প্রকাশিত রেনেল এর ম্যাপে মোমেসিং নামটি বর্তমান 'ময়মনসিংহ' অঞ্চলকেই নির্দেশ করে। তার আগে আইন-ই-আকবরীতে ‘মিহমানশাহী’ এবং ‘মনমনিসিংহ’ সরকার বাজুহার পরগনা হিসাবে লিখিত আছে; যা বর্তমান ময়মনসিংহকেই ধরা যায়। এসব বিবেচনায় বলা যায় সম্রাট আকবরের রাজত্ব কালের পূর্ব থেকেই ময়মনসিংহ নামটি প্রচলিত ছিলো। ব্রিটিশ আমলে জেলা পত্তন কালে ময়মনসিংহ অঞ্চলের সমৃদ্ধ জমিদারগণ সরকারের কাছে জেলার নাম 'ময়মনসিংহ' রাখার আবেদন করলে সরকার তা গ্রহণ করে নেন।[তথ্যসূত্র প্রয়োজন] আবার অনেকে মনে করেন, ময়মনসিংহ নামকরণ করা হয় সম্রাট আকবরের প্রধান সেনাপতি মান সিংহের নাম অনুসারে। সেনাপতি মান সিংহকে সম্রাট আকবর এ অঞ্চলে পাঠান বার ভূইয়ার প্রধান ঈশা খাঁ-কে পরাজিত করার জন্য। সেনাপতি মান সিংহ ময়মনসিংহে ঘাঁটি স্থাপন করে। পরবর্তীতে ঈশা খাঁর কাছে মান সিংহ পরাজিত হয়। আরো একটি মতবাদ প্রচলিত আছে যে, তুর্কী ইসলাম প্রচারক শাহ সুলতান কমর উদ্দীন রুমী (শাহ সুলতান রুমী) তাঁর এক শিষ্য মোমেন শাহ কে এই অঞ্চলে ইসলাম প্রচারের দায়িত্ব দেন। অনেকের ধারণা এই নাম থেকেই মোমেনশাহী ও পরে ময়মনসিংহ নামকরণ হয়ে থাকতে পারে। এর যুক্তিতে ১০৫৩ খ্রিস্টাব্দে শাহ সুলতান কমর উদ্দিন রুমীর আগমনের কথা উল্লেখ করা হয়। পরবর্তীতে এখানে মুসলিম বিজয় ও শাসনের গোড়াপত্তন হয়।

Mymensingh is close to Tura, a city in Meghalaya, and about 63 km from the Gobrakura Land Port.
Mymensingh is one of the sixteen old districts of Bangladesh which was constituted by the British East India Company on 1 May 1787.[6] Being more than 220 years old, Mymensingh has a rich cultural and political history.

ঢাকার মহাখালী থেকে এনা পরিবহণের বাসে ২২০ টাকা ভাড়ায় প্রায় আড়াই থেকে তিন ঘন্টায় ময়মনসিংহ জেলা শহরে পৌঁছাতে পারবেন। এনা পরিবহণ ছাড়াও ঢাকা থেকে ময়মনসিংহ রুটে শৌখিন, শামীম পরিবহন, আলম এশিয়া, শ্যামলী বাংলা এবং ইমাম পরিবহণের বাস চলাচল করে।
ঢাকা থেকে ট্রেনে চড়ে ময়মনসিংহ যেতে চাইলে কমলাপুর কিংবা বিমানবন্দর রেলওয়ে স্টেশন হতে সকাল ৭ টা ২০ মিনিটে তিস্তা এক্সপ্রেস ট্রেনে যাত্রা করলে সকাল ১১টার আগেই ময়মনসিংহে পৌঁছাতে পারবেন। শ্রেণিভেদে জনপ্রতি ট্রেনের টিকিটের মূল্য ১৪০ থেকে ২৫০ টাকা।

যারা ঢাকা বা এর আশেপাশে থাকেন তারা খুব সহজেই ঘুরে আসতে পারেন ময়মনসিংহে অবস্থিত প্রকৃতিকন্যাখ্যাত ১২০০ একরের বাংলাদেশ কৃষি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় (বাকৃবি) ক্যাম্পাস থেকে। ব্রহ্মপুত্র নদের পাড়ে অবস্থিত এই ক্যাম্পাসের প্রাকৃতিক সৌন্দর্য আপনাকে বিমোহিত করবেই। ক্যাম্পাসের মাঝ দিয়ে চলে গেছে রেল লাইন। আছে দুটি মিউজিয়াম কৃষি ও ফিস মিউজিয়াম। তাই দেরি না করে বেরিয়ে পড়ুন আজই। নভেম্বর থেকে মার্চ এর মধ্যে এলে দেখতে পাবেন রং বেরংয়ের শীতের গাদা, ডালিয়া, জিনিয়া, সূর্যমুখী, গোলাপ, মোরগ ইত্যাদি ফুলের বাহার। মনে হবে প্রতিটি স্থান যেন এক একটি নার্সারি। এসময় প্রাক্তন ছাত্রদের পূর্ণমিলনিও চলতে থাকে হরদম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সাপ্তাহিক ছুটি প্রতি শুক্র-শনিবারে।

National Martyrs' Memorial ( Jatiyo Sriti Shoudho ) - National Martyrs’ Memorial is the national monument of Bangladesh, set up in the memory of the valour and the sacrifice of all those who gave their lives in the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971, which brought independence and separated Bangladesh from Pakistan. The monument is located in Savar, about 35 km north-west of the capital, Dhaka.It was designed by Syed Mainul Hossain.
Ahsan Manzil - Ahsan Monjil was the official residential palace and seat of the Nawab of Dhaka. The building is situated at Kumartoli along the banks of the Buriganga River in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Construction was started in 1859 and was completed in 1872. It was constructed in the Indo-Saracenic Revival architecture. It has been designated as a national museum.
Cox's Bazar - Cox's Bazar is a town, a fishing port and district headquarters in Bangladesh. The beach in Cox's Bazar is an unbroken 120 km sandy sea beach with a gentle slope, one of the world's longest
Kuakata sea beach - Kuakata is a town known for its panoramic sea beach. It is located in south-eastern Bangladesh, and is the number two tourist destination in the country. Shashi Lodge is a wonderful creation of Maharaja Shashikanta Acharya Chowdhury. Which is also known as Rajbari of Mymensingh. Upon entering the main gate of the Shoshi Lodge, the Greek goddess Venus, made of marble, stands in the front courtyard as if to greet her with both hands. Suryakanta Acharya Chowdhury was the original founder of this palace established on 9 acres of land. The two-story building was named after his son Shashikanta Acharya Chowdhury Shashi Lodge.
Alexander Castle is one of the most amazing and renowned structures in Mymensingh District. It was built by Maharaja Suryo Kanta Acharya Chowdhury in 1879 in the memory of the 1st zilla magistrate of Mymensingh Mr. N .S Alexander at the time of Jubili festival. It covers an area of 27.155 acres.
It is a nice small archaic building having two Greek statues at both sides of the front gate. Though the arms of those statues are currently broken, but still those look great. The whole building is placed over a high plinth, probably to avoid the flood from the nearness river.
It cost 45000 taka at that time. Alexander Castle is a two storied building made by metals and woods in a high concrete base. This building was used as a rest house for the guests of Maharaja Maharaja Soshi Kanta Acharya Chowdhury. Many great personalities of the world stayed at this castle when visiting Mymensingh city. Nobel Laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore arrived in Mymensingh around the midday of 15 February 1926. He stayed in the Alexander Castle as a guest for four days. Mahatma Gandhi also stayed in this castle in 1926.

How to Come:-
It takes about 3 hours to reach Mymensingh from Dhaka. Several buses run on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, from Mohakhali in the capital Dhaka. Besides, 6 intercity and mail trains leave Dhaka every day for Mymensingh. From Mymensingh railway station or bus stop, one can easily reach Zainul Abedin Park by rickshaw.
Inside the park, various initiatives of Mymensingh City Corporation are now visible. People from different walks of life are happy with such an arrangement for healthy entertainment.
Tickets for the mini zoo cost 20 tk.
There are bears, monkeys, hedgehogs, rabbits, peacocks, ostriches, cormorants, crocodiles, deer, pythons, snakes, pigeons, bucks and other species of animals and birds.
History of Zainul Abedin Park:-
At one time, the name of this place adjacent to Kachijhuli Saheb Quarters was Umed Ali Park. During the British rule, this natural park on the banks of the Brahmaputra was next to this park.
Residences of English gentlemen working in Mymensingh Collectorate. Since then, the area has become known as Saheb Quarters.
From Zero Point in Mymensingh city, along the Brahmaputra river, about three kilometers to the west, the road passes through the Mymensingh Circuit House field at the Kachijhuli junction.
Umed Ali Park is considered to be about two kilometers from Kachari Ferry Ghat to Kachijhuli's Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Museum on the banks of Brahmaputra.

The paintings of the famous painter Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin are preserved in the house of Nalini Ranjan Sarkar at Saheb Quarters on the banks of the Brahmaputra River in Mymensingh.
Shilpacharya Zainul Brahmaputra is the son of Mymensingh. This internationally renowned artist is a pioneer of modern art movement in Bangladesh.
In his lifetime, Zainul would often say, River is my best teacher. Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin Sailing boats on the banks of the Brahmaputra, the quality of the sailors, the livelihood of the people of Char, the river crossing

Mymensingh: ময়মনসিংহ formerly called Nasirabad, is a city in Mymensingh District in central region of Bangladesh, situated on the Brahmaputra river. It is also the district headquarters. Mymensingh is the anglicised pronunciation of the original name Momenshahi, referring to a ruler called Momen Shah. The cadet college established in Tangail in 1963 was called Momenshahi Cadet College. Girls' High School,Women Teachers Training College, Mymensingh Engineering College, Notre Dame College,Mymensingh and Shahid Syed Nazrul Islam College. Other landmark institutions include Mymensingh Army Cantonment. Also it is related with old Brahmaputra river, handcrafted duvet called Nakshikantha (Bengali: নকশীকাঁথা) and a rural ballad called Maimansingha Gitika. Mymensingh city is located about 120 km (75 mi) north of Dhaka which is the capital of the country.
Dhaka airport is approximately 110 km (4.00 hours drive) from Mymensingh by bus. There are several bus services from Dhaka to Mymensingh. Buses leave from the Mohakhali bus stand (10 km south of Dhaka Airport) in Dhaka to the Mashkanda bus stand in Mymensingh. You can get on any of the following buses from the Mohakhali bus stand in Dhaka, which will cost around Tk. 350 ($4):

2. Ena
3. SEPL
There are several train services from Dhaka to Mymensingh. It takes almost 3 hours to reach Mymensingh from Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. You can get on from the Dhaka Airport or you could go to the main train station-Komlapur Rail Station.The nearby restaurants are Circuit House food court and Sharinda.
ঢাকা থেকে যেতে মহাখালি বাসস্ট্যান্ডে গিয়ে এনা, সৌখিন, সোনার বাংলা যে কোনো একটিতে চড়লেই ময়মনসিংহ মাসকান্দা বাসস্ট্যান্ডে নামিয়ে দিবে। সেখান থেকে অটো রিজার্ভ করে যাওয়া যায়। ভেঙেও যাওয়া যায়। সে ক্ষেত্রে টাউন হলের অটো ধরতে হবে। নামতে হবে টাউন হল মোড়ে। একটু সামনের দিকে গেলেই চোখে পড়বে মুমিনুন্নিসা সরকারি মহিলা কলেজ। তার উল্টা দিকের সোজা সার্কিট হাউজের রাস্তা ধরে গেলেই জয়নুল উদ্যান।দুপুরে খাবার খেতে রেস্টুরেন্ট আছে নদীর পাড়ে—’ব্রহ্মপুত্র ভ্যালি ফুড গার্ডেন’, ‘সারিন্দা’ ও ‘হিমু আড্ডা’। রাত্রিযাপন করতে চাইলে আছে শহরের গাঙ্গিনাপাড় স্টেশন রোডে হোটেল আমির ইন্টারন্যাশনাল, গঙ্গাদাস গুহ রোডে ফায়ার সার্ভিসের পশ্চিম পাশে হোটেল মোস্তাফিজ ইন্টারন্যাশনাল।আরও অনেক হোটেল আছে, তবে নদীর পাড়ে থাকতে চাইলে তালতলা ডোলাদিয়া, খাগডহরের রিভার প্যালেস রয়েছে।
