City in Japan
Aomori is the capital city of Aomori Prefecture, in the Tōhoku region of Japan. As of 1 June 2019, the city had an estimated population of 276,567 in 136,209 households, and a population density of 335 persons per km². The city is one of Japan's 48 core cities. The total area of the city was 824.61 square kilometers.
Aomori is located in central Aomori Prefecture, on a plain between the southern end of Aomori Bay, which it faces to the north and the Hakkōda Mountains to the south. Among other smaller rivers, the city has two large rivers flowing through it, the Komagome River and it's tributary, the Arakawa River.

Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost prefecture, is famous for beautiful wilderness, abundant powder snow, delicious seafood, and popular destination for skiing and snowboarding in winter. Even if you are not skiing or snowboarding, there are still so much things to do, places to visit in Hokkaido region. We recommend 1 or 2 nights in Hakodate and here is all things to do, food you must try, places to visit for your travel itinerary to Hakodate:
1) Eat Chinese Fried Chicken Burger from Lucky Pierott
Do not underestimate this clown burger chain that only can be found in Hakodate because their Chinese fried chicken burger is actually very juicy. We did not expect burger in a small Japanese city in Hokkaido can be delicious but it was quite yummy indeed!
2) Ride the ropeway up to Mt Hakodate to see beautiful city from above. We recommend to start going up during sunset
3) Trying food that is unique or only can be found in Hokkaido
7-Eleven hot food snack, only in Hokkaido region - Saku Saku Roll (Japanese fish cake)
4) Must try freshest seafood at Hakodate Morning Market
Kaisendon bowl is a rice topped with fresh raw seafood like ikura (salmon roe), uni (sea urchin), shrimp, crab, sasihimi etc. Also, don't forget to try squid & snow crab bun from Kaniman Chaya.
Hokkaido is blessed with freshest seafood you will ever taste and there are so many types of crabs: King Crab, Hairy Crab, Hanasaki Crab that are super fresh and so sweet. In Hakodate Morning Market, you can also buy some fruits to try like strawberry and melon. Hokkaido's melon is a MUST try fruit!
5) Shopping and sightseeing at Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse
Commercial warehouse with lots of Japanese craft shops, perfect for shopping. Of course there are some food stalls, dessert and cafe like Starbucks in Hakodate Bay.
6) Eating dessert at a traditional tea shop built in 1900s
Kikuizumi Cafe was built in early 1900 and still maintain the old Japanese traditional house architecture that is now open as tea shop or cafe. Try the tofu shiratama parfait while mesmerizing irori - a sunken hearth in Japanese traditional houses that is rare to see.
7) Must try food: Miso Ramen in Hakodate
Hakodate is the birthplace of miso ramen so obviously you need to try miso ramen while visiting Hakodate. We tried Menchuubo Ajisai near the Goryokaku Tower.
8) Visit Goryokaku Tower and Goryokaku Park
The view of Hakodate from Goryokaku Tower is truly magical especially during winter with winter illumination lights, they are just magnificent.

Top 10 Snowiest Cities on Earth
10. Buffalo: Located just east of Lake Erie, which borders the winter wonderland known as Canada, Buffalo experiences more snow than most major Canadian cities, which tend to be known for long, snowy winters. Buffalo residents also experience increased production of snow due to the meteorological pattern known as “lake-effect snow”, which drastically increases overall snowfall.
9. Rochester: located fairly close to Canada, south of Lake Ontario, Rochester deals with large amounts of lake-effect snow that occasionally leads to blizzards. Sustained winds that exceeded 60 mph battered the regions, blowing snow from the lake. Snow drifts of up to 30 feet accumulated in some areas.
8. Akita: Home of Akita Castle, a fortification built around 733 A.D., Akita has a population of more than 320,000 residents. It achieved the designation of a “core city” of Japan in 1997. The first two months of the year tend to dump the most snow on the people of Akita, with an average of 54.3 inches in January and 42.5 inches in February – over 90% of its average annual snowfall.
7. Saguenay: Saguenay is located about 120 miles north of Quebec City, capital of the province of Quebec. Formed through a merger of four smaller cities – La Baie, Laterriere, Chicoutimi and Jonquiere – Saguenay has a population of more than 144,000 Francophones living close to the Saguenay River and Lac Saint-Jean.
6. Syracuse: Syracuse is located in the state of New York, situated close to a lake – in this case both Lake Ontario and Onondaga Lake. Metropolitan Syracuse has a population of more than 144,000 in the city with more than 662,000 people living in the surrounding metropolitan region.

Quebec City: The second biggest city in the province of Quebec, Quebec City is one of the oldest cities in North America and features some of the most beautiful architecture and culture inspired by the city’s French and European roots.. 4. St. John’s: St. John’s is located in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador and receives the most snow on average than any major Canadian city. This city is believed to be the oldest in North America and sprung from some of the first wave of settlements from European interlopers.

Toyama: This area of Japan receives so much snow on an annual basis that that the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route – Yuki no Otani – features giant walls of snow on both sides that tower over all drivers, completely blocking the view. Toyama is the capital of the Toyay Prefecture and is home to over 417,000 residents.

The fourth biggest city in Japan is the second snowiest on earth, with nearly 17 feet of snow per year on average. Similar to Quebec City, Sapporo puts on an annual festival, known as the Sapporo Snow Festival, welcoming about two million tourists during the event.
1. Aomori City: By far the snowiest city on earth is Aomori City in Aomori Prefecture, Japan. This location averages a whopping 26 feet of snow per year, more than a 100 inches more than Sapporo, the next snowiest city. The reason Aomori City receives an incredible amount of snow is its location in high elevation among the Hakkoda Mountains, Aomori Bay and Mutsu Bay, combining cold northern air with snow production aided by adjacent bodies of water.

I went on a solo trip to Mutsu City, Aomori Prefecture, Japan.
The means of transportation is a car.
Mutsu City, Aomori Prefecture, is located about an hour and a half by plane from Tokyo.
In addition to planes, you can also go by train or ferry, but please be aware that it takes time. Please check the details.
For sightseeing after arriving in Mutsu, it may be convenient to rent a car.

【青森県むつ市で宿泊した『むつパークホテル』】
八戸市は1泊のみの滞在となりましたが、ホテルチェックアウト後に、種差海岸に。そこから蕪島などを訪問。蕪島神社参拝した後に、既に日没に近い時間。国道45号線を北上し、八戸中心街通過。おいらせ町で国道338号線に入り、基地で有名な三沢、原発で有名な六ヶ所村を通行し、東通村⇒むつ市に。
むつ市では大湊のほうではなく、田名部のほうにあるホテルに2泊。むつに来た最大の目的は、むつを拠点にし大間に行く事。本州最北端の大間。この3週間少し前に函館の函館山から下北半島を眺めたが、今度は逆に下北半島から函館方面、北海道を見たかったため。
大間はマグロで有名ですが、もちろん名物のマグロ、生のマグロの丼を食しました。
むつで宿泊したむつパークホテルは田名部に中心に位置しており、無料駐車場つき。ホテルの従業員の対応もよく、お薦めできるホテルです。

【本州最北端の市！青森県むつ市に到着！下北半島、陸奥湾、津軽海峡に面する都市】
I arrived in Mutsu city where located on the northernmost of Honshu island of Japan. I admired Mutsu city from Hakodate city in Hokkaido about 3 weeks ago. I will enjoy the view of Hokkaido from here at this time.
本日は八戸市の海岸を訪問後に、北上し基地で有名な三沢市を通り、下北半島に。原発で有名な六ヶ所村、横浜町などを通り、むつ市に到着。八戸市からは北に110キロ程の距離で人口約56000人の都市。
下北半島では恐山に行きたかったのですが、11月~閉山のようで残念。大間のマグロで有名な大間を訪問し、本州最北端から北海道・函館方面を望みます。
10月25日~28日に函館に滞在しましたが、函館から青森、津軽海峡、下北半島を眺めました。今度は逆から函館方面を撮影。

Amazing Autumn Colors at Mt. Hakkoda - Hiking in Aomori Prefecture - Travel in Tohoku
Weekend trip in Aomori Prefecture! We hiked in the Hakkoda Mountains to experience the autumn foliage (called Koyo or Momiji in Japanese). We were treated to stunning views after riding the ropeway to the peak of the mountain. Just wow! More dramatic scenery was waiting for us while hiking down.
After a long hike, there's no better place than a Japanese hot spring. Sukayu Onsen is one of Japan's most atmospheric hot springs ryokan. The large, wooden bath is mixed-gender. Yes, it's a mixed-gender Onsen ;)

Our itinerary:
1) Sendai - Shin-Aomori
2) Shin-Aomori or Aomori Station, take the JR Bus Tohoku bound for Lake Towada. Get off at Hakkoda Ropeway Station
3) Arrival at the Ropeway Station, 10min ride to the top.
4) From the top, hike down via Kenashitai to Sukayu Onsen.
5) Take the JR Bus Tohoku again from Sukayu Onsen bus stop back to Aomori Station.

la carte de voyageのFumikoです。
今回は6年振りに日本を訪れました。国内の絶景スポットや、下北半島&青森旅行をしてきたのでシェアします。今年の5月に両親が札幌から祖母の家がある青森へ移住したので、私も初めて訪れる場所ばかりでした。
とっても安くてびっくりな日本のレストランや、各地のお祭りに花火など、フランスとはまた違った「日本の夏休み」とても楽しかったです♡
