Kayaking the sickest urban river in Australia

BAD RIVER - The Cooks River: Australia's sickest urban river is located in the glamorous and famously pretty city of Sydney. This makes sense, given it’s also Australia's largest, hard-surfaced, drainified, leaky-sewered, city. In my little red kayak I decided to trace all 23km of the Cooks River, inspired to do so after paddling my boyhood river over 4 days in the name of Backyard Adventuring. Finding it not only challenging, but shocking in terms of its ill health, I’ve since shifted from wanting to see the wildest and most pristine places on earth, to the most degraded and sick. This is a journey of ill-health, sadness and hope; putting a test to the local saying, ‘if you fall in, you’ll dissolve’.

Relax In Mt Sheridan: A Beautiful Suburb In Australia

Mt Sheridan is a suburb in Far North Queensland in Australia. Mount Sheridan is situated in the southern suburbs of Cairns (Gimuy). The aboriginal Yidinji people are the traditional owners of that country. The suburb takes its name from the mountain of the same name.

The largest commercial enterprise in Mount Sheridan in Cairns is the shopping plaza. Many local people are employed at the various shops and outlets in the plaza.

Aa a tropical city, Cairns experiences torrential downpours and high humidity during the summer. Part of the city is flood prone and highly vulnerable to sea-level rise from climate change. However, Mount Sheridan is high and dry.

Sometimes abbreviated to Mt Sheridan. The post code for the suburb is 4868. The largest commercial enterprise in the suburb of Mount Sheridan is Mount Sheridan Plaza. You can find out more about Mt Sheridan @

Innisfail, Far North Queensland - 4K Ambient Walk

Innisfail is a small town in Far North Queensland which was once known as Geraldton until about 1910. Whilst it only has a population of around 7,500, the town center was quite busy, making for a lively 4K walking tour.

The CBD's main streets are Edith Street and Rankin Street, and the town has the Johnstone Rivers running through it, all of which are seen in this 4K walking tour.

There is some old architecture and a few interesting sites. It's quite a unique old town which I feel will remain like it is for many years to come.

MULGRAVE GARDENS: TROPICAL GARDEN OF FNQ. AUSTRALIA / PERFECT EVENT VENUE // Cheche Lañojan //

Mulgrave Gardens is a privately-owned tropical garden in FNQ., Australia. It was open to the public on the 18 and 19th of September 2021. Mulgrave Gardens is available for half and full day hire. I must say this place is a perfect venue for weddings, parties, corporate events or any special occasions.
What I love the most about MULGRAVE GARDENS? I love their aquarium in the reception area. For me, that's their best feature! Well, you have to watch this vlog to see for yourself what I'm talking about. I love their day bed area. It took me to Bali! There are heaps of tropical plants and I'm struggling to identify most of them. This garden is well looked after.
I've been wanting to visit this garden for a long time. Finally it was open to the public on the weekend. I came prepared with a hat and dress to match.

Thank you Mulgrave Gardens! This hidden tropical paradise deserves a spot in my YT channel.

Gordonvale in Queensland is a sweet combination of country and city.

Gordonvale in Queensland, Australia is a once sleepy sugar town, that has a bright future. It has schools, shops, events, markets and more.

Gordonvale is located 23 kilometres south of Cairns CBD. This once proud sugar milling town is fast becoming a suburb of greater Cairns.

The town’s most prominent geographical feature is Walsh’s Pyramid or Djarragun. Hence, this cone-shaped peak rises 922m on the outskirts of the town, surrounded by cane-fields.

The Great Pyramid Race and Country Fair is held on the 2nd weekend every August. Markets are also held on the first Saturday of every month at Norman Park.

The town of Gordonvale was founded on the Mulgrave River south of Cairns in tropical Far North Queensland. Originally a small sugar town, the town is now part of the south Cairns urban growth corridor.

Queensland | Australia Tourist Attractions | Full Itinerary

Explore Queensland (Australia) in 5 days | Australia Tourist Attractions | Top places to see in Queensland | Barron Falls | Kuranda Rainforest | Kuranda Scenic Railway | Kuranda Skyrail | Great Barrier Reef | Coral Reef | Coral Sea | Green Island | Cairns City | Port Douglas | Four Mile Beach | Trinity Inlet | Mulhrave River | Saltwater Crocodile | Travel Vlog

Queensland Australia - a slice of paradise, and we are fortunate enough to witness the beauty of this place. In our 5 days tour to Queensland we explored the places like Kuranda Rainforest (Kuranda Scenic Railway, Skyrail - Rainforest Cableway), Trinity Inlet (Mangrove Forest, Mulgrave River, Saltwater Crocodiles), Port Douglas (Four Mile Beach, Sunday Market, Daintree Rainforest Mouth), The Great Barrier Reef (Coral Sea, Green Island, Underwater Coral Observation) and of course, the calm city Cairns (Esplanade, Cairns Central Museum). Our itinerary had 5 days in total and we had planned ahead to visit the best possible locations in each of these days and enjoy the tour.

In this vlog I tried to cover each of the 5 days from tour to show the things that we did and places that we visited. The brief itinerary can be glanced through below:

Day 1- Kuranda Rainforest: From Cairns City station we took the Kuranda Scenic Railway to enjoy the scenic beauty touching the rainforest, Barron Falls, Stoney Creek and finally reaching at Kuranda. Then we visited the Kuranda village and local market to witness the traditions of almost 10,000 years old aboriginals. After that we had a walking tour inside the rainforest and beside the Barron river to see the beauty of the nature. Finally we took the one of the longest and highest cableway (Skyrail) which crosses the entire Kuranda Rainforest.

Day 2 - Trinity Inlet: On our Day 2 we had taken the cruise from Cairns to Trinity Inlet; the entire journey was just amazing. The first part had the coral sea crossover and then the cruise ship entered into the Mulgrave river where the beauty of mangrove forest was seen miles after miles. The river and the mouth hosts of the endangered species of saltwater crocodiles. At later part of the day we visited saltwater crocodile firm before embarking on a shuttle bus to return to Cairns in the evening.

Day 3 - Port Douglas: We intentionally kept Port Douglas in our Day 3 itinerary as one among the many beautiful attractions in Port Douglas is Sunday Market. We hired shuttle cab from Cairns City to reach Port Douglas. The places we visited in Port Douglas are 4 mile beach, Daintree rainforest mouth, Port Douglas city and Sunday market.

Day 4 - The Great Barrier Reef: Our Day 4 had some more energies stored as we wanted to witness the world's largest coral reef - The Great Barrier Reef in Coral Sea. We took the morning cruise ship from Cairns City for Green Island and reach Green Island just before the noon. Had our lunch at ship, and then explored the Green Island national part, crocodile firms, and the enchanting beaches. Later we took the underwater observatory ship to go down the Coral sea to see the beauty of the reef. While returning from Green Island we found the weather and surrounding natural beauty of Coral sea cutting across the mountains astonishing.

Day 5 - Cairns City: A much needed light packed day, and exactly it matched with our itinerary. We explored the Cairns city by walk, finally reaching upto the point which is known as Esplanade. We went to Cairns Central, Museum, Cairns Post, and the night market before bidding bye to the lovely Queensland. Another perfect week-long gateway to avoid the hustle bustle city life and enjoy the slice of paradise.

Cairns:
Cairns is a regional city in the far north of Queensland, Australia, founded 1876. The city was named after William Wellington Cairns, then-current Governor of Queensland. It was formed to serve miners heading for the Hodgkinson River goldfield, but experienced a decline when an easier route was discovered from Port Douglas. It later developed into a railhead and major port for exporting sugar cane, gold and other metals, minerals and agricultural products from surrounding coastal areas and the Atherton Tableland region. As of June 2012, the population is approximately 153,075.
Cairns is located about 1,700 km (1,056 mi) from Brisbane, and about 2,700 km (1,678 mi) from Sydney by road. It is a popular travel destination for foreign tourists because of its tropical climate. It serves as a starting point for people wanting to visit the Great Barrier Reef and Far North Queensland. Cairns is located on the east coast of Cape York Peninsula on a coastal strip between the Coral Sea and the Great Dividing Range. The northern part of the city is located on Trinity Bay and the city centre is located on Trinity Inlet. Some of the city's suburbs are located on flood plains. The Mulgrave River and Barron River flow within the greater Cairns area but not through the CBD. The city centre's foreshore is located on a mud flat.
Tourism plays a major part in the Cairns economy. According to Tourism Australia, the Cairns region is the fourth-most popular destination for international tourists in Australia after Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. While the city does not rank amongst Australia's top 10 destinations for domestic tourism, it attracts a significant number of Australian holiday makers despite its distance from major capitals. There is also a growing interest in Cairns from the Chinese leisure market with direct flights from Shanghai and Hong Kong. During the 2013 Chinese Lunar New Year period alone, Cairns saw 20,000 Chinese holidaymakers flying in on chartered flights. The city is near the Great Barrier Reef, the Wet Tropics of Queensland, and the Atherton Tableland.
Cairns esplanade includes a swimming lagoon with adjoining barbecue areas. In May 2003, the then Cairns Mayor Kevin Byrne declared that topless sunbathing is permitted here, as the area is a gathering point for people from around the world who may wish to do so.

The Cairns Regional Council Area: A History

Cairns Regional Council area is a municipality in Far North Queensland. It was established in 1885 and merged with the Mulgrave Shire Council in 1995.

The Council was actually founded as the Cairns Divisional Board. As a result of the passage of the Local Authorities Act of 1902, Cairns Municipal Council became Cairns Town Council on 31 March 1903. Cairns grew strongly. As a result the name was changed to City Council on 12 October 1923.

Camping at Wilsons Promontory Melbourne, Victoria - Sealers Cove Campground

My friends and I had a great time camping out at Wilsons Promontory in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The campsite we choose is the Sealers Cove Campground which requires a 9.5KM hiking through the Jungle. The Wilsons promontory is about 2.5 hrs to 3 hrs drive from Melbourne CBD. On the way, we made a stop at Squeaky Beach to see how the beach got its name. There is another campsite which is even further from the Sealers Cove, the Refuge Cove. It's a long hike of about 17KM and we weren't ready for that. You can also plan for a visit to the Mount Oberon, a short hike from the Visitors Center for a picturesque view.

If you are planning to visit the Wilsons Promontory first, you must book your campsite in advance. Then you must be report at the Visitors Centre at the Tidal River and get a parking permit. Then you will be taken to Saddle river carpark via a shuttle bus and from there the hiking starts.

Pack perfectly for an overnight stay as there is not even electricity or telephone signal at the campground. Telstra has a very little network and no other carrier has the network. There is open eco-friendly toilets, water stream for washing and that's it. You have to carry your rubbish back to the place where you started your hike. The campsite is pretty safe except for some incidents where possum jumped on to the top of our tent. The trail can be hard for the first-timers.

In this video, you can check out how we planned our trip to Wilsons Promontory and set up our camp at the Sealers Cove Campground.

When you are planning a trip to Cairns, the first activity that comes on every Google search is scuba diving at Great Barrier Reef but not a lot of people know about this amazing water sport at Palm Cove which takes you on a turtle spotting tour by kayaks.

If you want to a day trip from Cairns that doesn't cut your pocket as well as gives you a refreshing start to the day, this Double Island Turtle Sea Kayak Tour is the best choice. In today's Cairns vlog, I will take you along with me on this tour and show you why this Kayak tour should be on your Australia bucket list and is a part of my Cairns Travel Guide.

Cairns, Australia is home to Great Barrier Reef and some beautiful marine animals, like turtles, sharks, rays, and so much more. This kayak tour takes you from Palm Cove, over to Haycock island's fringing reef and all the way around the abandoned Double Island.

The kayak tour starts at sunrise and ends around mid-day after which you can grab brunch at Palm Cove at one of the many cute little cafes fringing the beach.

If you are planning your Australia 2022 trip and have an Australia bucket list, make sure to add this Australia kayak tour in your list because you will not regret it!
