国道253号は、新潟県上越市と同県南魚沼市を結ぶ一般国道です。本チャンネルでは何度も登場している路線ですが、今回は改めて全区間を収録しました。長時間の動画となるため2回に分けてアップしております。
その①の続きで、十日町市松代から南魚沼市六日町までの区間となります。信濃川が流れる十日町盆地を挟んで2つの山越区間があり、いずれも長大トンネルで駆け抜けていきます。
現在、本路線のバイパス道路となる地域高規格道路「上越魚沼地域振興快速道路（上沼道）」の整備が進められていますが、本路線最大の難関である魚沼丘陵の八箇峠区間は優先的に整備が進められ、八箇～余川間8.5kmの「八箇峠道路」区間のうち、延長2,840mの八箇峠トンネルを含む八箇～野田間6.6km区間は2017年11月に先行開通しています。残り野田～余川間1.9mは現在建設中です。
この八箇峠道路の部分開通により十日町・南魚沼両市間の所要時間が短縮されたとともに、災害に強い道路として利便性が大幅に向上しました。なお、八箇トンネルを含む旧ルートは市道（一部県道560号）に格下げとなりましたが、現在も通行は可能で、工事等により八箇峠道路が閉鎖される場合は迂回路として機能しています。

1923年開業

上越線：1738人（2014年は5647人）
＊北陸新幹線開業により一気に利用客が激減してしまった。豪雪地帯という事もあり駅構内やそうの周辺はかなりの積雪でした。
日時：2021年3月7日（日）
1923年（大正12年）11月18日：上越北線（現：上越線）浦佐 - 塩沢間の開通時に一般駅として開業する。
1984年（昭和59年）1月20日：車扱貨物の取扱を廃止し、旅客駅となる。
1985年（昭和60年）3月14日：チッキの取扱を廃止する。
1987年（昭和62年）4月1日：国鉄分割民営化に伴い、JR東日本の駅となる。
1996年（平成8年）
12月6日：駅前のショッピングセンター内に「びゅうプラザ六日町」開業。
12月18日：現駅舎が竣工する。
1997年（平成9年）3月22日：北越急行ほくほく線が開業する。
2009年（平成21年）
3月14日：上越線CTC化により、運転要員の配置を廃止する。
3月31日：業務委託化に伴い、この日をもって駅長職を廃止する。
4月1日：JNBジェイアール新潟ビジネスがこの日より駅業務を受諾する。（業務委託化）
2015年（平成27年）3月14日：北陸新幹線の長野駅 - 金沢駅間開業に伴うダイヤ改正で特急「はくたか」が廃止され、当駅に停車する定期の特急列車が無くなる。
2016年（平成28年）3月26日：超快速「スノーラビット」の一部列車が停車を開始する。

新潟県道560号は、十日町市田沢倉下の十二峠付近から南魚沼市余川の八箇峠付近に至る、延長約20kmの路線で、魚沼丘陵の尾根筋を走ることから「魚沼スカイライン」愛称が付けられています。
観光ドライブコースとして整備されており、途中五ヶ所にある展望台からは越後三山や谷川連峰などの名峰を眺めることができます。
一部狭隘箇所もありますが、全線にわたってほぼ1.5～2車線の幅員が確保されており、普通車であれば通行に特段の支障はありません。なお、例年11月から5月までの間は冬期閉鎖となり、道路敷の一部は上越国際スキー場などのゲレンデとなります。
八箇峠から終点に向けて少し下ると旧国道253号に突き当たります。もともとはここが本路線の終点でしたが、2017年11月のバイパス道路「八箇峠道路」開通により旧ルートは国道指定から外れたため、その一部区間が本路線に編入されました（八箇峠直下を走る八箇トンネル区間は十日町、南魚沼両市の市道となっています）。
麓の平石地籍にある県道478号交点が560号の新たな終点で、この先旧国道ルートは市道となっています。やや中途半端な編入ですが、無理やり既存の県道と接続することによって”県道網”としての体裁を保ったのでしょうか。
続く478号平石西ノ裏線は筋金入りの”険道”で、核心部には心霊スポットとして知られる「柳沢トンネル」があります。
今回は、十二峠の国道353号交点から六日町駅前まで、この両県道を走ってみました。景色を眺めながらの快適ドライブでしたが、例の「柳沢トンネル」通過中、なぜかGoProとスマホアプリの接続が切断されてしまうアクシデントが発生、やや背筋がゾッとするハプニングがありました。

This time, I cycling from Muikamachi station to Shiozawa-juku through the rice field road.

Our destination in this trip are a place called Mikuni Kaido Shiozawa-juku (Reverend Street). Known as one of the heaviest snowfall areas in Japan, this townscape was newly created with the aim of creating a town that takes advantage of the history and culture of the snow country.

この都市の名前を最も大きく報じたのはまさに小説雪国である。ダッカた温泉旅館は雪国の産室である。なんと800年以上の間、37代目続いている歴史的な旅館である。小説家が泊まった当時木造3階だった旅館は流行に合わせて近代的なホテルに改造された。 2階に小説家の資料展示室が別に用意されていた。 1935年から10年余りの雑誌に連載された「雪国」は川端康成のノーベル賞作家の仲間入りを上げた。小説は、東京出身の主人公が、ここの温泉街を見いだし二人の女に感じる恋心と美しい自然を繊細な手書きで描かれた。アーカイブ一方ロビー円好奇心を呼び起こす女性の写真があった。小説の中の女主人公コマコの実際のモデルになったとマスコミに知られている温泉芸者の写真である。

The tradition of skiing continues to thrive here at one of Japan’s leading ski areas that has been operating since 1949.
Ishiuchi Maruyama is easily accessible by Shinkansen bullet train in around 80 minutes from Tokyo, with a shuttle bus departing from the nearest station and arriving in 10 minutes.
It features some of Japan’s best natural snow and visitors can enjoy a variety of wide, open slopes.
The views from the resort are spectacular, particularly Uonuma Plain and the three great mountains of Echigo.
Riding on the world’s most advanced combi-lift “Sunrise Express” for about 7 mins to the snow garden.
Besides skiing and snowboarding, “Snow Garden” is located next door so that the whole family, kids and all, can have fun in the snow.
