San Leo | Visto dall'alto | Borghi d'Italia
L'antichissimo borgo è situato su un enorme masso roccioso tutt'intorno invalicabile, alle spalle della Repubblica di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini, nella Val Marecchia.
San Leo, meravigliosa capitale d’arte, citata da Dante Alighieri nella Divina Commedia, è il fulcro della regione storica del Montefeltro ed è la città che gli ha dato il nome.
La straordinaria conformazione del luogo, un imponente masso roccioso con pareti a strapiombo ne ha determinato, fin dall’epoca preistorica, la doppia valenza militare e religiosa, testimoniate da manufatti di grandissimo pregio.
Tutto il possente apparato difensivo, a cui si accede per un'unica strada tagliata nella roccia, sembra essere un prolungamento del masso che lo sostiene, fino alla punta più alta dello sperone dove svetta la Fortezza di Francesco di Giorgio Martini (XV sec).
La città un tempo si chiamava Monte Feltro, da Mons Feretrus, nome legato all’importante insediamento romano sorto intorno al tempio consacrato a Giove Feretrio. Fu oggetto costante di contesa, finchè venne definitivamente conquistata nel 1441 dal giovane Federico da Montefeltro, che duramente contrastò i Malatesta nel dominio della Valle del Marecchia.
Ospitò personaggi come Dante e San Francesco d’Assisi, che qui ricevette in dono il Monte della Verna. Devoluta allo Stato Pontificio nel 1631, divenne aspro carcere dove, tra gli altri, finirono i propri giorni il Conte di Cagliostro (1795) e Felice Orsini (1844).
Annoverato tra “I Borghi più Belli d`Italia”, il mirabile centro storico sprigiona il suo fascino in ogni periodo dell'anno. Oltre alla suggestiva fortezza, si offrono immediatamente allo sguardo gli antichi edifici romanici: Pieve, Cattedrale e Torre.
A essi si affiancano numerosi palazzi rinascimentali, come il Palazzo Mediceo, con l’elegante Museo di Arte Sacra, la residenza dei Conti Severini-Nardini, il Palazzo Della Rovere, sede del Municipio.
Da San Leo si gode una magnifica vista sui monti circostanti, lungo la vallata del Marecchia, giù fino al mare.

Ep.2 Oggi andiamo sulle colline che sovrastano la Valmarecchia, non lontano da Cattolica, dove arroccato su una alta collina, siede da più di 1000 anni un bellissimo castello. La località si chiama Montebello di Torriana, in provincia di Rimini e la sua storia è così interessante che ve ne voglio parlare, soprattutto perchè il castello è conosciuto in tutta Italia per le sue vicende soprannaturali. E' qui che nasce la leggenda di Azzurrina... pare corresse l’anno 1375, nella notte del solstizio d’estate la figlia del feudatario scomparve misteriosamente proprio scendendo quelle scale. Dicono che il suo fantasma sia ancora tra queste spesse mura ...
