The Sintra Mountains, a granite massif ten kilometres long emerge abruptly between a vast plain to the north and the northern margin of the Tagus River estuary, winding in a serpentine cordillera towards the Atlantic Ocean and Cabo da Roca, the most westerly point of continental Europe. Since 1966, the Sintra Mountains have been affected by fires that have destroyed a major part of the original forest, which has been substituted by acacia and other fast-growing exotic species. The forested area of the Sintra mountains is about 5,000 hectares (50 km2).

Relaxing walking tour of Estoril, Portugal, with detailed historical information and context. Estoril is a cosmopolitan town with palm-lined streets, aristocratic mansions, world-class golf, and beaches attracting locals and tourists throughout the year.
Estoril is part of the Cascais municipality, and together they make up the “Portuguese Riviera.” Just over 25 kilometers (16 miles) from Lisbon, it’s where the rich, famous, and even royal Europeans and spies escaped to during World War II, when Portugal remained a safe, neutral country. Grand hotels and Europe's biggest casino were built to welcome them.
Known as a haunt of international spies, and wartime adventurers, Estoril Casino was famous for spying and secret negotiations. That's where author Ian Fleming was inspired to create the James Bond character, in his first book Casino Royale.

Known as a haunt of international spies, and wartime adventurers, Estoril Casino was famous for spying and secret negotiations. That's where author Ian Fleming was inspired to create the James Bond character, in his first book Casino Royale.

This is a walking tour of Estoril to Cascais, Portugal, walking along the Beach Promenade. The full walk on the promenade is a very enjoyable 3km walk from the two towns. It is all along the coastline and is mainly flat so it is suitable for all ages. It is also a good spot if you are a surfer as you can see from the video there are a few surfers.
