I am especially excited about this weeks video because we are going to Miyazaki, Japan! We’ve actually been to Miyazaki before but never made it all the way out to the coast. I had plans to go earlier in the summer but the week we had planned to go we saw torrential downpours and decided to reschedule. This trip has been on my list of places to go because of the beautiful dog friendly Airbnb that we found. A friend actually stayed in the Airbnb last spring and also recommended it so I knew I wanted to go.

I wasn’t sure about the city the Airbnb was in (Hyuga, Miyazaki) but we ended up loving the small surf town vibes that it gave off. It wasn’t touristy at all and honestly felt like a local hang out. We let Olive swim on the beach in a huge tide pool and then when all the surfers left for the workweek we let her let loose on the beach and run to her hearts content. It wasn’t crowded at all, but I would say that is more likely due to the time of year. I’m sure during the height of summer Hyuga is a VERY popular place to be.
Hyuga was about a 4.5hr drive from Sasebo and we took the route through Oita on the way there. We stopped at a coffee shop AND a brewery and I definitely recommend both of them! There is something really great about finding these random places out in the middle of nowhere! It made the drive much more enjoyable to have fun stops along the way.

Solo Travel in Miyazaki Japan | Kyushu Trip
I traveled to Miyazaki Prefecture in Kyushu, southwestern Japan. This is where you will find Japan's Easter Island. Miyazaki has tropical atmosphere and it's a relaxing place to visit. Also, you'll find a delicious chicken nanban!
Kyushu trip started from Osaka. I took a cool overnight ferry to Kagoshima.

Aomori is the capital city of Aomori Prefecture, in the Tōhoku region of Japan. 高千穂峡・宮崎県・Takachiho Gorge and Udo Shrine, Miyazaki in Kyushu islands
Takachiho Gorge follows the Gokase River, Takachiho Shrine dates back over 1,000 years, Amano Iwato Shrine faces the mythical cave of the sun goddess Amaterasu.
The Udo shrine is the mythical birthplace of Emperor Jimmu's father Ugayafukiaezu. The shrine is located on the side of a cliff in a cave facing the ocean. Site seeing in Myazaki and the Kyushu area has many temples and waterfalls to visit especially the waterfalls where monks do their mediation. There are many more shrines in Miyazaki to visit if you have a few days on your Japan trip.
Miyazaki is kinda a remote location and a good place to pencil in on your Japan trip budget. Food is amazing and cheap, hotels also are very reasonably priced. Plan on getting a rental car though as public transportation is not like Tokyo in this rural area. Another good fact is that Miyazaki surfing is top location for the Japanese locals.
