2 day trip! Mt. Mitake, Tokyo - day 1

A 2 day trip to Mt Mitake in Tokyo! Watch day 2 here:

Can you believe that all of this is still within the boundaries of the city? This is a past video that was taken on the dates noted within the video (last July). It was originally meant to come out before my previous video (the Kawaguchiko trip from October), however I had so much footage from this trip that I decided to bulk edit this later on and split it into two parts. :)

We initially decided to go to Mt Mitake as we didn’t want to leave Tokyo due to covid (the state of emergency had lifted at the time and citizens were free to go out), but it remains one of my most memorable trips and the very first one with Caro on her birthday! So it is very special to me. The video is much longer and slow-paced compared to usual since the motive in its creation is leaned more towards looking back and logging our memories this time around. If you don’t mind that, then please do sit back and enjoy the trip with us. :)

I also highly recommend the inn we stayed at, Kura-ya! Service was impeccable, food was mind-blowing, and the innkeeper lady took care of us really well despite us being drenched from the rain half the time (she dried our shoes!). If you have a chance to visit Mt. Mitake overnight like how we did, the place is definitely one of your options!

Places we visited:
- Mt Mitake and its routes + shopping district
- Musashi Mitake Shrine
- Momiji-ya (lunch)
- Kura-ya (inn)

Mount Mitake | Hike | Japan

Mount Mitake

Access:
Train

Tourist brochures promoting visits to Mount Mitake point out that the mountain is only a 90 minute train trip away from central Tokyo - Central Tokyo meaning Shinjuku Station and the 90 minutes presumes a well-planned itinerary. But, from Ome Station, where you have to change trains on the way to Mitake Station, trains for Mitake / Okutama run only about once an hour.

From Tokyo Station or Shinjuku Station, take the Chuo Line to Ome Station and change there to the Ome Line. Alternatively, take the Chuo Line to Tachikawa and change there to the Ome Line.
From Ome Station, only about one train per hour goes to Mitake / Okutama.

From Mitake Station, take bus number 10 to Cable Shita (280 yen).

Walk from the Cable Shita bus stop to Takimoto Station and take the cable car. The cable car return trip fare is: adults 1,110 yen, children 560 yen. One-way trip: adults 590 yen, children 300 yen.

The cable car operates from 7.30am to 6.30pm.

Top 10 Things To Do in Tokyo, Japan for locals and tourists!

✅Best-Selling travel gear
????Booking.com Deals

Would a trip to Japan be complete if you don’t visit its capital city? Where else can travelers visit the world’s most famous fish auction, pray at a 1,000-year-old temple and eat down the charmingly named Piss Alley all in one day?

Welcome to Things To Do channel, today we’re going to list the top 10 places to do in Japan.

#10 Explore historic Asakusa and ancient temple Sensō-Ji.

Asakusa's well-worn neighborhood and its main draw, the holy Sensō-ji temple, is a must-visit – in Tokyo, nothing else is quite like them. In addition to the Nakamise shopping street set up along the road, the classical temple and its famous red lantern can take you back to old Japan.

#9 Pick up anime movies and collectibles at Akihabara.

The Electric Town of Tokyo wows tourists with its sheer amount of available anime, manga and gaming paraphernalia. You will find everything you need to complete your collection – comics, DVDs, informative figurines, trading cards, costumes, magazines and an endless supply of knick-knacks. It's also the spot to take a peek at the quirky maid cafés in Tokyo.

#8 Gaze out from Tokyo Skytree.

Spend an evening visiting the world's highest tower, the Tokyo Skytree, 634 meters high (2.080 feet). Check out the boutiques on your way up to the observation decks, where you'll get an unrivaled 360-degree view of the city; you might even be able to see Mount Fuji on clear days. At the base of the tower is Skytree Town (also known as Solamachi) where you can find plenty of shopping and dining options.

#7 Take a stroll down Piss Alley.

Piss Alley is a bustling, atmospheric nook that is a local favorite for eating and drinking despite that off-putting moniker. Yakitori-skewered meats that go well with Japanese beer and sake-is the main dish you'll come across.

#6 Walk around the imperial palace and gardens.

The royal family of Japan – the world's longest-running hereditary monarchy – makes its home at this magnificent castle complex in central Tokyo. Reservations must be made for visits to the Imperial Palace grounds but the Imperial Palace East Garden is open to tourists throughout the year. On the other side of the moat is a famous cherry-blossom spot.

#5 Go along the busy streets of Shibuya Crossing.

Shibuya Crossing, also known as the Shibuya Scramble, is the world's busiest foot traffic junction. A popular meeting spot is the nearby Hachikō statue, which immortalizes the dog that was waiting for its owner at Shibuya station every day even after his master's death.

#4 Have drinks around Golden Gai.

A pre-war maze of narrow alleys lined with two-story bars, Golden Gai is quite a contrast to its surroundings. For most bars so small they can only fit a handful of customers, there are high seating costs, but soaking up the local charm makes all this worthwhile. Note that, in recent years, Golden Gai has become popular with tourists and sometimes you'll encounter signs that may say Locals only.

#3 Take a day out of town.

Head out of town for the day to embark on a hike to the Mitake-san summit, stop for shopping and dining in the nearby village and pay your respects on the way to the ancient Shinto shrine.

#2 Slow down at Meiji Shrine.

This shrine was built to honor Emperor Meiji and his wife, Empress Shōken. It is easy to see why it remains one of the most prominent Shinto shrines in the city with its thickly wooded grounds, skyscraping torii gates and proximity to tourist spots such as Shibuya.

#1 Eat the freshest sushi in town at Toyosu Fish Market.

Tokyo is renowned for its excellent sushi, and the Toyosu Fish Market is one of the best places to get your hands on some. In 2018, Toyosu was moved to the world-famous Tsukiji Fish Market and the latter is now the location to enjoy the renowned daily tuna Auction.

Hiking Mount Mitake & Koganegadake, Hyogo Japan (Kansai’s best 100 mountains, #32)

Mount Mitake & Koganegadake (Elevation:793m)

Location: Hyogo Prefecture, Sasayama city (Day trip from Kobe, Osaka, Kyoto).
(Google Map: )

Walking time: 4hrs 10mins
Distance: 7.9kms total
Hiking Elevation: 841m up, 854m down
Difficulty: Intermediate level
Climbing season: early-April ~ end-November

Notes: A lovely hike summiting the main peaks of the Taki Alps; Mt. Mitake and Koganegatake, with gorgeous panoramic views. Starts and ends in a quaint village of traditional roofed houses.

Music: “Gateway”, from the Album “Hidden Dancers”, by Richard Goldsworthy

ROUTE DIRECTIONS:
Disclaimer: The directions only represent my personal experience. I accept no responsibility for any losses or injuries resulting from following these directions. Hike safe!

Starting point:
The trail begins between 2 beautiful traditional Japanese houses. Follow the signs, through the gate (keeping the wild boar out of the village), and up the stairs. It’s quite a steep rise up to the summit of Mitake(三岳), with some beautiful views on the way.

From the small hut at the top, turn right and follow the trail along the ridge, gradually down until you cross the road and find the “Forest Adventure” park. Walk straight ahead through the park and a cedar forest, then the trail climbs steeply up over some rocks with great panoramic views.

From the top of Koganegatake (小金ヶ岳), make sure you follow the signs down to 小金口 as it’s easy to get lost. There’s a lovely little stream which forms towards the end of the trail.
End point:

Autumn leaves of Mt. Mitake and Mitake Valley (Tokyo, Japan)

Late November. I went to Mt. Mitake to see the autumn leaves.

This time's hiking course is here.

Cable car (Takimoto Station → Mt. Mitake Station)
Mountain Llift (Mitakedaira Station → Daiobendai Station)
Mitake Visitor Center
Jindai Zelkova
Momijiya (lunch)
Musashi Mitake Shrine
Nagaodaira

Mitake Valley is right next to Mitake Station.
From the top of the bridge, we were able to enjoy the autumn leaves of Mitake Valley.

Exploring Mount Mitake in Tokyo and seeing the start of Autumn/Fall in Japan.

Today Moe and I travelled to Western Tokyo to the quiet town of Okutama. Okutama is very popular with residents of Tokyo as it provides escapism from the crowds with many one day hiking trips that range from simple to challenging.

We chose Mount Mitake also known as MitakeSan which is one well known mountain because it is convenient to hike with it's many rest stops but it does not suffer from over crowding like Mount Takao does. If you love nature there are a good number of things to do at Mount Mitake, visiting shrines, trekking, seeing the local wildlife, enjoying quaint cafes and more. We show some of that in this video and if you look closely you can see the beginnings of autumn as some of the tree leaves have already started to yellow.

Mount Mitake and Odake Mystic Hike

Last time with Tomo of @Trip On we went hiking in Mitake.
With cloudy and rainy weather we’ve been surrounded by a mystical atmosphere at Mount Mitake.

Mount Mitake is a popular spot to discover nature while being relatively close to Tokyo (2 hours by train). After arriving at Mitake station, you can either take the bus or walk (30 min) to get to the cable car which lifts you up at Mitake. There you’ll easily get to the town and to Musashi Mitake Shrine. If you feel adventurous you can extend your path by going to Mont Odake.

Most AMAZINGLY Beautiful Places In Tokyo - Japan

Mount Mitake is one of the many highlights of the Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park, which covers more than 1250 square kilometers of forested mountains, hills, gorges and some rural towns in the prefectures of Yamanashi, Saitama, Nagano and Tokyo.

Besides a popular shrine, Mount Mitake offers various walking and hiking opportunities in virtually unspoiled nature. Located in the Okutama region, the westernmost part of Tokyo, the mountain can be reached in less than two hours from central Tokyo, making it a popular escape from the city.
