Places to see in ( Kinross - UK )
Kinross is a burgh in Perth and Kinross, Scotland. It was originally the county town of Kinross-shire. The site of the original parish church and churchyard are located down a small wynd overlooking Loch Leven, a little away from the town.
Kinross was originally linked by railway to Perthshire, Fife and Clackmannanshire until the rail links gradually disappeared. At one time three independent railway companies had their termini at the town. The Fife and Kinross Railway came from the east, the Kinross-shire Railway came from the south and The Devon Valley Railway came from the west. Recently Kinross has expanded considerably, especially since the construction of the M90 motorway - the main north-south artery which bypasses the town. Many people working within a commuting radius of Kinross have settled in the town owing to its convenient central location and excellent local amenities. Loch Leven is also a popular holiday base for tourists, who especially appreciate its proximity to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling, Perth and St Andrews (all lying within an hour's drive of Kinross).
The burgh is attractively located on the shores of Loch Leven, and there are boat trips around the loch and to Loch Leven Castle, where Mary, Queen of Scots was famously held prisoner in 1567. There are roughly 4000-5000 people living in Kinross. The vast majority of children living in Kinross will attend Kinross High School, with the others also possibly attending local private schools such as Dollar Academy.
Kinross was also the home of Flight Sergeant George Thompson whose posthumous Victoria Cross in 1945 is often cited as the best merited of the entire air war. He was the wireless operator in a Lancaster of No. 9 Squadron on a dawn raid against the Dortmund-Ems Canal when the plane was struck by a salvo of two 88mm shells.
Kinross offers many opportunities for getting out and being active, with countless options for walking and cycling in the local area. A recently developed path called the Loch Leven Trails has been developed which offers 12.5 km of walking and cycling heritage trail around the shoreline of Loch Leven. It begins at RSPB Vane Farm Nature Reserve via Findatie to Kinross Pier/Kirkgate Park. The local leisure centre in Kinross - Loch Leven Leisure also opportunities for all ages and abilities to stay active all year round. Kinross also has 3 amateur football teams. Kinross AFC who currently play in the Fife Kingdom Caledonian Football League. Fossoway AFC who play in the Fife 1st division and Portmoak AFC who play in the Perthshire 3rd division.

North West England is one of the best and most popular of nine official regions of England and consists of the administrative counties of #1 ranked Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside. The North West had a population of 7,052,000 in 2011. It is the third-most-populated region in the United Kingdom, after the South East and Greater London. The largest settlements are Manchester and Liverpool. North West England is bounded to the east by the Pennines and to the west by the Irish Sea. The region extends from the Scottish Borders in the north to the West Midlands region in the south. To its southwest is North Wales. Amongst the better known of the North West's physiographical features are the Lake District and the Cheshire Plain. The highest point in North West England (and the highest peak in England) is Scafell Pike, Cumbria, at a height of 3,209 feet (978 m).
Windermere is the largest natural lake in England, while Broad Crag Tarn on Broad Crag is England's highest lake. Wast Water is England's deepest lake, being 74 metres deep.
A mix of rural and urban landscape, two large conurbations, centred on Liverpool and Manchester, occupy much of the south of the region. The north of the region, comprising Cumbria and northern Lancashire, is largely rural, as is the far south which encompasses parts of the Cheshire Plain and Peak District.
The region includes parts of three National parks (all of the Lake District, and small parts of the Peak District and the Yorkshire Dales) and three areas of Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (all of Arnside and Silverdale and the Solway Coast, and almost all of the Forest of Bowland The North West is generally regarded as having the most average weather in the UK. Temperatures are generally close to the national average. Cumbria usually experiences the most severe weather, with high precipitation in the mountainous regions of the Lake District and Pennines. In winter, the most severe weather occurs in the more exposed and elevated areas of the North West, once again mainly the Lake District and Pennine areas.
Parts of the North West experienced a White Christmas in 2009, and again in 2010, where sleet and snow fell on December 25.
The A635 was closed for almost a month in January 2010 due to high amounts of snowfall.

Millom is a town and civil parish on the north shore of the estuary of the River Duddon around 7 miles north of Barrow-in-Furness in southwest Cumbria, England. Millom was constructed as a new town, beginning in 1866 and subsumed the village of Holborn Hill. Built around ironworks, the town grew to a size of over 10,000 people by the 1960s, but has struggled since the works were closed in 1968. Culturally, Millom is notable as the birthplace of poet Norman Nicholson, and as a major centre of amateur rugby league.
The name is Cumbrian dialect for At the mills. The town is accessible both by rail and an A class road. Historically in Cumberland, the parish had a population of 7,829 in 2011 and is divided into four wards, Holborn Hill, Newtown North, Newtown South and Haverigg.
Millom is mentioned in the Domesday Book as one of the townships forming the Manor of Hougun which was held by Tostig Godwinson, Earl of Northumbria. Millom Castle is a grade I listed building and scheduled ancient monument which by 1739 was in dilapidated condition. In 1251 a market charter was granted by King Henry III of England to John de Huddleston, Lord of Millom. A charter for an Easter fair at Holy Trinity Church was also granted at the same time.
Millom is the most southerly town in the historic county of Cumberland. The Whitehaven & Furness Junction Railway opened a station here in 1850 known as 'Holborn Hill Halt', until Millom newtown was built in 1866. It was taken over by the Furness Railway in 1866.
Millom's economy is now mainly based around retail, services and tourism. It is a relatively low wage area, with a lot of people employed in skilled trades such as building, painting and decorating. Many also work in the service sector in hotels, pubs and shops within the nearby Lake District national park. Higher wage centres are Barrow-in-Furness to the south and Sellafield to the north-west with commuting each way on the road or via the railway. There is also some commuting as far as Kendal.
Millom Palladium (a theatre, bar and full multi-functional venue) is a historic part of the town. Completed in 1911, it has stood on the site for over 100 years. The Beggar's Theatre is a multi-function arts base with several activities, performing-arts based, for local talent and provides a venue for touring theatres, stand-up comedians etc. Millom Network Centre, based in the grounds of Millom School, offers adult education, business and public meeting space and other business services.
St. George's Church stands proud within the town on a small hill and with its steeple is the biggest landmark of the town being visible from quite a distance. The area's bigger landmark is the significant hill of Black Combe standing 1,970 ft (600 m) above sea level. It forms a grand panoramic viewing platform of the south west Lake District area and offers view of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales – but only on a clear day.
Millom Discovery Centre (previously known as 'Millom Folk Museum' and 'Millom Heritage Museum And Visitor Centre') presents a snapshot of past times in Millom, paying particular attention to the historical development of the area brought about by the significant iron ore mining and iron works. Millom Rock Park is situated high on the north rim of the nearby Ghyll Scaur Quarry in the parish of Millom Without. A viewpoint in the Rock Park permits views into the working quarry and overlooks the processing machinery. There is an avenue of 15 large rock specimens with detailed interpretation panels.

We visit Ambleside in the Lake District, Cumbria in North West England for a look around this little town nestled in the hills near the lakes in this amazing national park.
Amongst the tourist attractions here is Bridge House, a 17th century house on a bridge over the river that's now a National Trust protected building.
Shopping in Ambleside is great with all kinds of gift shops, shops that sell walking and hiking gear, as well as cafes, pubs and bars, restaurants and hotels and guesthouses if you fancy a stay in the Lake District.

Beauty of Cumbria, Whitehaven Beach | 4K Virtual Tour
In Georgian times the settlement of Whitehaven was a bustling hub of mining and shipping. Salt and coal were exported from the town’s harbour and rum and tobacco came into the country here. These industries are now long gone, but there is much in the area to remind visitors of the town’s past.
The small sand and pebble beach curves around the bay. The area is quite popular with sea-anglers and fossils are sometimes found amongst the shingle on the shore line. Just behind the beach lies the town, with its Georgian buildings, shops, places to eat and parking.
At the southern end of the beach there is a breakwater and the historic harbour of Whitehaven, which dates back to 1633. The chimney of Wellington Pits towers majestically over the harbour. There are also some interesting museums in the area, telling the story of Whitehaven’s industrial past. The Beacon Museum is dedicated to telling visitors about local history. The Rum Story visitor centre is set in an original 18th century building and brings the history of rum vividly to life.
From the beach it is possible to take an exhilarating cliff-top walk along the coast to St Bees Head and beyond to the RSPB Reserve. Look out for terns, guillemots and even puffins along the way. From the cliffs, on a clear day there are views over to the hills of Dumfries and Galloway to the north and over to the Isle of Man.

Corney is a small settlement in Cumbria, England, and located in the west of the Lake District. It is near the A595 road, in the civil parish of Waberthwaite and it is located north east of Bootle and is 10 miles north of Millom. The name is well known to travellers who take the fell road from Duddon Bridge to Ravenglass, as this route is known as the Corney Fell Road. It is possible to see the Isle of Man, North Wales and parts of Scotland from Corney on a clear day.
Corney is home to a predominantly agricultural community. Corney is also close to the ruins of a 12th-century Benedictine nunnery (no public access). St John's Church dates back to as early as the 12th century.
