5 Best Things About Father Hennepin State Park
Father Hennepin State Park is located in central Minnesota within the city limits of Isle, Minnesota. You have the small-town charm of Isle, Minnesota, and Mille Lacs Lake for fishing, boating, and fun water sports.
Father Hennepin State Park has one of the few public sandy beaches on Lake Mille Lacs. The beach picnic area includes a volleyball court, horseshoe pits, playground equipment, and an open picnic shelter that can be rented.
With a quarter mile of sandy beach, there is plenty of room outside the designated beach area to tie up your boat and relax.
The area just east of the swimming beach offers a quiet setting to enjoy the beach, as well as a great view of the lake and Pope's Point to the west.
One of two boat accesses in Father Hennepin State Park, this access is available for use by the general public and can accommodate larger boats and pontoons. There is a large parking lot for vehicles and trailers.
One of two fishing piers in the park, this pier is within walking distance of the public boat landing parking lot. It is located along an asphalt path and is wheelchair accessible.
The boat ramp and docks located in the Lakeview Campground are used primarily by campers, as there is no parking lot for vehicles. Two docks provide overnight mooring for boats.
The Lakeview picnic area at Father Hennepin State Park has a nice open grassy area with tables and grills. If you're looking for a quiet spot for a picnic, this is the place for you!
The Lakeview shelter can be rented for family get-togethers and weddings. It has a large stone fireplace, picnic tables, and electricity—and from the deck, you'll have an excellent view of the lake!
The seven sites located in the Lakeview Campground rank among the most popular at Father Hennepin State Park, due to their view of the lake and easy access to the boat landing.
The Lakeview Campground hosts 62 campsites, 41 of which have electric hookups. This campground also has a modern restroom with showers, playground equipment, and a fish-cleaning house.
If you are looking for a more secluded camping experience, the Maple Grove Campground might be for you! This campground features 42 non-electric campsites and a modern restroom with showers.
The non-electric Maple Grove Campground features longer parking spurs, so it can accommodate motorhomes and RV trailers for those who would like a quieter experience and don't mind running their units from battery power.
Hiking is a popular pastime at Father Hennepin State Park. The park offers 4.5 miles of hiking trails and is located within four blocks of the Soo Line State Trail.
Father Hennepin State Park's six rustic group campsites are wonderful if you have a large group that wants to camp and enjoy nature together!
Located at the end of one of our most popular hiking trails, the Pope Point overlook is a wonderful place to watch the sunset over the lake.
