Japan Travel Guide: Ashikaga, Tochigi has more temples than Kamakura! And I visited some that should not be missed!
00:55 Gyodosan Joinji Temple
The temple is called the ‘Koyasan of Kanto’ and is built in the mountains surrounded by steep cliffs. It is said to have been founded by Gyoki Shonin in 714 and flourished as a place of mountain temple worship. The view from the Seishin-tei tea house on top of the cliff walls has been depicted in Hokusai’s ‘Hanging-cloud Bridge’. Designated as the prefecture’s first scenic spot in 1975.

This friendly temple has a coffee shop that operates twice a week at no set schedule between 10-12am.
It is famous for its autumn leaves. Momijigari is the Japanese tradition of visiting areas where leaves have turned red in the autumn. The word comes from the two Japanese words momiji (紅葉) meaning red leaves or maple tree and kari (狩り), hunting. It is also called kōy

Komyoji Temple has a long history. Beautiful with its landscaped garden. This temple is very active and offers many activities.
About 1km northwest from Ashikaga IC (about 5 minutes)
Train: Approximately 5 km north of Ashikagashi Station on the Tobu Isesaki Line (20 minutes by taxi)
About 4km north from JR Ryomo Line Ashikaga Station (15 minutes by taxi)

This temple was founded by Gyoki and built by Emperor Shomu. The current Chief Priest is the 94th in the line.
In the 8th century, this area was close to the northern border of Japan, and the Tohoku region was settled by the Emishi, a people who did not belong to the central government in Nara or Kyoto.
Therefore, Bishamonten, the god of war who protected the north, was enshrined here.
Later, this temple became a sacred place where warlords prayed for victory in battle, many monks have been praying for the peace and security of the nation, and people make prayers.

This itinerary to Ashikaga is easy to follow and shouldn't be missed. Ashikaga makes for a great day trip or overnight stay from Tokyo. Ashikaga is easy to get to from Tokyo too! This Guide will take you to some great locations close to Ashikaga train station, they are accessible by foot too!

1) Change into Samurai armor at the Ashikaga Machinaka Yugakukan and stroll along the nearby streets!
2) Ashikaga Gakkō is a Historic, picturesque site & known as Japan's oldest school, also houses temples & shops.
3) Bannaji Temple's area is surrounded by earthen walls and a moat. You can still see today the remains of the samurai residence from the Kamakura period and in March, 1922 the ‘Ashikaga Former Residence’ was designated as a national historic site.
There are many cultural properties on the grounds, as well as the large ginkgo tree known as a ‘marriage tree’.
4) Hatoya (restaurant) is where I had a delicious snack! and worth a visit too!
5) Orihime Shrine is definitely worth a visit. This might be the jewel of Ashikaga city. You will get some great views of the area too.
6) Kyuyuen Soba noodles making was something I will always remember.

桜名所 元荒川の桜並木 熊谷桜堤(埼玉県/Saitama Japan)/I shot a video of the Kumagaya Sakura Tsutsumi in Kumagaya City, Saitama Prefecture, and the Motoara River Cherry Blossom Trees in Konosu City, which I wanted to visit once among the many cherry blossom viewing spots in Saitama Prefecture Japan.
Motoara River Cherry Blossom Trees (Kounosu City, Saitama Prefecture Japan)
This is a cherry blossom viewing spot with about 500 cherry blossom trees lined up on both banks of the Motoara River, which runs through the residential area near JR Fukiage Station, for about 2.5km.
There are plenty of places to see the cherry blossoms on the bank or on the promenade along the river, and there are 17 bridges of various sizes in the Fukiage area alone.
You can enjoy various landscapes depending on the season, such as a water mirror where flowers are reflected on the river surface when it is in full bloom, and a flower raft where the water surface is dyed pink.
Kumagaya Sakura Tsutsumi (Kumagaya City, Saitama Prefecture)
Kumagaya Sakura Tsutsumi, which has been certified as one of Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots, has an amazing collaboration of about 500 Yoshino cherry trees that bloom over 2km on the bank of Arakawa and yellow canola blossoms that bloom close to each other.
This area was known as a famous place for cherry blossoms in the Edo period, but it overcame hardships such as death in the Meiji period and burning in the Taisho period.
When the Arakawa River was renovated in 1952, cherry trees were planted as part of the Kumagaya City 20th Anniversary Project, and it became the current Kumagaya Sakura Tsutsumi.

JR吹上駅付近の住宅街を流れる元荒川の両岸約2.5km区間に約500本の桜並木が続いているお花見スポットです。
土手の上や、または川沿いの遊歩道などの桜のビュースポットも豊富にあり、吹上地域だけでも大小様々な17本の橋も架けられています。
満開を迎えた時期に川面に花が映り込む水鏡の他、花びらが散ってから見ることができる花筏など、時期によって様々な風景を観賞できます。

日本さくら名所100選の地にも認定されている熊谷桜堤は、荒川の土手2kmにわたって咲く約500本のソメイヨシノと、寄り添うように咲く黄色い菜の花のコラボレーションが圧巻です。
江戸時代には桜の名所として知られておりましたが、明治期の枯死や大正期の焼失などの苦難を乗り越えて、昭和27年の荒川改修時に熊谷市・市制施行20周年事業の一環で桜の木が植樹され、現在の熊谷桜堤になりました。

YUZAWA TRAVEL GUIDE ???? | Things to do in Yuzawa + KIYOTSU GORGE and the Tunnel of Light ????✨
Today, we're taking you to Yuzawa, a town in the mountainous region of Niigata Prefecture, mainly known for its heavy snowfall and hot springs where we'll cover all of the top things to do in this travel guide. However, we visited in late summer, so there was no skiing for us!
Instead, we rode the ropeway up the mountain to visit an alpine botanical garden, hiked to the nearby Fudo Falls, and sampled sake at the Ponshukan Sake Museum inside Echigo Yuzawa Train Station.
We also visited lots of baths across town - hand baths, foot baths, and even a sake bath! Plus, we went on a day trip to Kiyotsu Gorge to visit the famous Tunnel of Light.

Yuzawa, nestled in the mountainous Niigata Prefecture, is renowned for its heavy snowfall and hot springs, but our late-summer visit unveiled a different charm. As skiing wasn't an option, we embarked on a diverse exploration, starting with the Yuzawa Kogen Ropeway. This scenic journey whisked us to an alpine botanical garden, a lush oasis showcasing the region's diverse flora.
Our adventure continued with a hike to the serene Fudo Falls. The cascade's natural beauty was a refreshing sight, distinct from Yuzawa's winter persona. Gastronomy was also a key part of our experience. We indulged in local delicacies like Chicken Katsudon and Ginger Pork, adding a flavorful twist to our journey. Not to be missed was the Nakanoya Soba Yuzawa Shop, where the soba noodles offered an authentic taste of Japanese culinary traditions.
The Ponshukan Sake Museum inside Echigo Yuzawa Train Station was a highlight, allowing us to sample various sakes and learn about their intricate brewing processes. Additionally, we discovered the unique pleasure of hand and foot baths across town, including a distinctive sake bath experience.
Our day trip to Kiyotsu Gorge was a journey into natural grandeur. The Tunnel of Light, a renowned attraction, presented a mesmerizing blend of art and nature. Finally, our visit to Suwa Shrine added a spiritual dimension, rounding off a trip that beautifully encapsulated Yuzawa's multifaceted allure. “Musashi Kyuryo Forest Park” is a large public park that straddles Kumagaya City and Namerikawa Town in Saitama Prefecture.
In 1974, it opened as the first National Government Park. The park covers a vast area of forest and offers opportunities for various outdoor activities.
The park's flowers are especially popular and draw crowds of visitors during the spring season.
The colorful flowers come in a variety of shades, including pink, red, and white.
The park's beautiful blooms and natural scenery make it a great place to spend a day enjoying the beauty of nature.
埼玉県比企郡滑川町と熊谷市にまたがる比企北丘陵にある国営公園「国営武蔵丘陵森林公園」は、304haと広大な丘陵地に整備され、東京ドームの約65倍の広さがあります。国の明治百年記念事業の一環として開設され、全国で初めての国営公園。園内には雑木林を中心に、池沼、湿地、草地など多様な環境を有しており、貴重な動植物が生育、生息する場所となっています。春から初夏にかけて咲くアイスランドポピーは、約70万本の広大な花畑を見せて新緑を背景に美し咲き誇ります。また、この時期には約4万本の「ルピナス」の花畑が見頃を迎えており色彩豊かな風景をつくり出している。さらに10万本が見せる一面ブルーに染まるネモフィラの花畑も見られる。また、公園内には遊歩道や自然散策路が整備されており、自然を身近に感じながら散策することができます。

Ashikaga Flower Park features lots of blue, white and pink wisteria, as well as yellow laburnum that look like yellow colored wisteria.
The wisteria in Ashikaga Flower Park are usually in full bloom in the beginning of May, one to two weeks later than the wisteria of Tokyo. Because Ashikaga Flower Park is considered one of the best spots to view wisteria flowers in Japan.

ここに無料で観賞できるアグリパークバラ園が併設されており、ドライブで疲れた人たちを和ませています。
道の駅にバラ園というアイデアはとても素晴らしいと思います。
花の季節になると多くの人が訪れるので、敷地内にある農産物直売所などお店でたくさん物が売れますし、その利益でさらにバラ園を整備していくという好循環が生まれるからです。
またバラ園があることで知名度が上がり、花期以外でもつい立ち寄る人が多いかもしれませんね。

Seikeien garden 星溪園 is located in Kumagaya 熊谷. Seikeien is a walking around style Japanese garden built by Tanjo Takei who was a member of the Saitama Prefecture council. He built this garden as his second house about a hundred years ago. Seikeien is a Nationally designated scenic spot in Japan.
This garden is known for its autumn foliage. From the middle of November until the middle of December visitors can enjoy the beautiful colours created by various trees such as Japanese maple trees.
In Japanese culture momijigari 紅葉狩 , literally “deep red leaf hunting”, has been popular since the Heian period (794-1195). Momijigari has had a profound influence on Japanese culture. For Buddhists, it is a moment which is important both spiritually and symbolically as it reminds us that life is ephemeral. Momijigari features heavily in poetry and classical novels. It is typical to find screens, dishes, kimonos, and other fabrics bearing the symbol of the maple leaf.
