Taking a day trip from Milano to lake Como Italy

click to subscribe: youtube.com/@teepsk8?sub_confirmation=1

As a traveling vlogger family, we embarked on a journey through the picturesque landscapes of Northern Italy. Our trip began with a scenic train ride from the bustling city of Milan to the stunning Lake Como. The train journey itself was a feast for the eyes, as we were treated to breathtaking views of the Italian countryside. We passed by rolling hills, quaint villages, and vineyards dotting the landscape.

Once we arrived at Lake Como, we couldn't wait to explore the area further. We boarded a ferry and set off to visit the charming towns of Bellagio and Menaggio. Despite the chilly January weather, the lake was a sight to behold. The water was crystal clear and the surrounding mountains provided a stunning backdrop. We were in awe of the elegant architecture and the historic old buildings lining the streets. Although we were not able to take a dip in the lake this time, we couldn't wait to come back in the summer and experience the water firsthand.

One of the highlights of our trip was the delicious Italian pizza we had for lunch at a restaurant with an incredible view of the lake. The restaurant was located on a hilltop, and we were able to enjoy our meal while taking in the panoramic views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. The pizza was made with fresh, local ingredients and cooked to perfection. It was truly a culinary experience to remember.

The rest of our visit was spent exploring and taking in all the beauty that Lake Como had to offer. We walked along the waterfront, admiring the colorful houses and boats dotting the shoreline. We explored the charming streets of Bellagio and Menaggio, taking in the local culture and architecture. We even took a trip up to the top of a mountain to catch a glimpse of the famous Villa del Balbianello, which was used as a filming location for the James Bond film Casino Royale.

Overall, our visit to Lake Como was a trip of a lifetime. The stunning natural beauty, delicious food, and rich culture made for an unforgettable experience. As a traveling vlogger family, we highly recommend visiting Lake Como and the surrounding towns of Bellagio and Menaggio to anyone looking for a unique and beautiful travel destination. Whether you're a nature lover, an architecture enthusiast, or just looking for a relaxing getaway, Lake Como is the perfect place to visit. So, If you're planning a trip to Northern Italy, be sure to add Lake Como to your itinerary and experience the beauty of this Italian gem. With its crystal-clear water, charming towns, and delicious local cuisine, it's no wonder Lake Como is a popular destination for travelers from around the world.

Exploring Milan City Centre - VIDEO TOUR (Milan, Italy)

We flew into Milan Bergamo Airport, so it would be rude not to visit the city centre! We actually parked for free at Gessate subway station and took the M2 Green Line in (As we were nea that area anyway)... You can do this a lot closer, the price difference changes after Cascina Gobba on the M2 for instance, so parking by Cascina Gobba would be the best option if coming from the North East for the lowest fare vs the best free parking option!

You can access the city centre and pretty much everything you need to see in Milan from the Duomo stop on the M1 and M3 subway lines. The city bicycle rental is CRAZY cheap, around 25-50 cents for an hour! So getting around is no problem!

Milan (English /mᵻˈlæn/ or US /mᵻˈlɑːn/; Italian: Milano [miˈlaːno]; German: Mailand, Lombard, German: Mailand, Milanese variant: Milan [miˈlã]) is a city in Italy, capital of the Lombardy region, and the most populous metropolitan area and the second most populous comune in Italy. The population of the city proper is 1,346,000, and that of the Metropolitan City of Milan is 3,209,000. According to Eurostat, the commuting area has 4,252,000 inhabitants but its built-up-urban area (that stretches beyond the boundaries of the Metropolitan City of Milan), has a population estimated to be about 5,270,000 in 1,891 square kilometres (730 square miles), ranking 4th in the European Union. The wider Milan metropolitan area, known as Greater Milan, is a polycentric metropolitan region that comprehends almost all the provinces of Lombardy and the Piedmont province of Novara and has a population of about 8,500,000 people. Milan is the main industrial and financial centre of Italy and one of global significance. In terms of GDP, it has the largest economy among European non-capital cities. Milan is considered part of the Blue Banana and lies at the heart of one of the Four Motors for Europe.

Milan is an Alpha leading global city, with strengths in the arts, commerce, design, education, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare, media, services, research, and tourism. Its business district hosts Italy's Stock Exchange and the headquarters of the largest national and international banks and companies. The city is a major world fashion and design capital, well known for several international events and fairs, including Milan Fashion Week and the Milan Furniture Fair. The city hosts numerous cultural institutions, academies and universities, with 11% of the national total enrolled students.

Milan's museums, theatres and landmarks (including the Milan Cathedral, Sforza Castle and Leonardo da Vinci paintings such as The Last Supper, a UNESCO World Heritage Site) attract over 9 million visitors annually. Milan – after Naples – is the second Italian city with the highest number of accredited stars from the Michelin Guide. The city hosted the Universal Exposition in 1906 and 2015. Milan is home to two of Europe's major football teams, A.C. Milan and F.C. Internazionale, and one of the major basketball team, Olimpia Milano.

NOTE: There are a lot of African men giving you free african bracelets and selling selfy-sticks for 10EUR+ all around the tourist attractions. They will try and lure you in for handouts and acting really friendly. Might want to avoid from the start!

Naviglio Martesana e fiume Adda Parte prima ( Milano-Gorgonzola)

The Naviglio della Martesana is a canal in the Lombardy region, Northern Italy. Running from the Adda river, in the vicinity of Trezzo sull'Adda, to Milan, it was also known as Naviglio Piccolo It is part of the system of navigli of the Milan area.Approximately 38 kilometres long, with a substantial section covered over or infilled, its width varies between 9 and 18 metres, while the depth is between one and three metres.Originally named Naviglio Piccolo, it subsequently changed to Martesana from the name of the county across which it runs. The history of the canal begins on June 3, 1443, date of a document by Filippo Maria Visconti, Duke of Milan, approving an ambitious project put forward by a group of illustrious Milanese citizens led by Catellano Cotta, the duke's administrator for the salt monopoly. The project aims to deviate the River Adda and thus build a canal for irrigation and to feed up to 16 mill wheels. The design included a water intake positioned just below the castle of Trezzo sull'Adda, where the natural course of the river narrows, therefore producing a current sufficient to guarantee a constant flow of water. The canal was to run alongside the river until Cassano d'Adda, where it would curve away in a south-westerly direction towards Milan, then hug the town walls of Inzago, turn towards Trecella and Melzo, and finally end up in the River Molgora.Because of the political situation of the time, nothing happened until 1457, when Francesco Sforza's edict, underwritten by Cicco Simonetta, marked the start of design work. The project was seen as being of great public benefit: since the war between Milan and Venice, Sforza had realised the military and economic potential of a navigable canal in an area that, at the time, was considered to be of strategic importance to the dukedom. So he modified the original project, to put it into a wider context giving the city of Milan a water connection to the Rivers Adda and Ticino. It was constructed by the engineer Bertola de Nova (1410–75) and inaugurated in 1465 by Bianca Maria Sforza.Today it is a popular recreational area, known for its tranquil and traffic free cycling paths. In this first stage you leave Milan and reach Gongorzola covering just under 15 KM

China takes another step closer to Italy

A new Silk Road route is now connecting the Chinese city of Chonqing with Melzo (Milan), in Italy. The service is powered by Italian shipping company Contship Italia and German rail freight company Bahnoperator GmbH.

The train trips are currently scheduled to leave China every Saturday and, in the next months, there will be trips on Wednesdays as well. This new project, with its reduced transit time, represents a valid alternative to sea shipping.

The first train is underway

The first train departed on 9 July. After stopping at various Chinese terminals, the train will reach the hub in Melzo (Milan) and then will head towards Verona. The journey will take 22 days to complete.

The train is carrying over 10 million euro worth of goods, which include clothing, household appliances, and daily necessities, according to Qi Dan, general manager of Yuxinou Logistics Co.

It is still unclear which services the route will use. RailFreight.com is still waiting on further information from the companies involved.

The expertise of Contship Italia

Contship Italia will provide its intermodal network and its services in the Melzo hub. More specifically the custom service RHM (Rail Hub Milan), ensures that customs are always present in Melzo. The company’s subsidiary Hannibal will provide flexible intermodal solutions for freight transport to and from China.

Moreover, with the implementation of the service driveMyBox, Contship Italia can now take care of the last mile pickups and deliveries. Contship Italia is also planning to strengthen rail connections between Italy and China through its rail traction subsidiary Oceanogate.

Matthieu Gasselin, CEO of Sogemar, the Contiship Italia holding company, claimed that this project will mark significant improvements in operativity, shorter transit times, and better sustainability. Marcel Stein, general manager of Bahnoperator GmbH considers the new route a significant expansion of rail freight services between China and Italy.
