Rocca di Meldola Forli - Cesena????????/Emilia-Romagna/Italy/HD/4K/Maluphotography16/Drone/DJI/Cinematic

The Rocca di Meldola is a fortress above the historic center of Meldola in the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna, about 12 km from Forlì. The exact construction period of the old fortress is not known, but it is assumed that it was built in the 10th or 11th century. It belonged to the most important noble families that alternated in power in Romagna, such as the Montefeltros, the Ordelaffis and the Malatestas. The first written mention of the fortress dates from 1158. Bonifacio, son of Lamberto di Castrocaro, left the fortress to the archbishop of Ravenna, Anselmo. It thus became the property of the church, although this was long disputed by the local noble families. In 1283 it became the property of the Church of Rome, which lost it several times and regained it every few years. In 1350 the Ordelaffis managed to take possession of the fortress, but they lost it again nine years later in 1359 through the machinations of Cardinal Albornoz. In 1379 the Rocca di Meldola was conquered by the Malatestas, who kept it until the 16th century, when the territory of Romagna fell definitively under the control of the Papal States.

Meldola is an Italian municipality (comune) with approximately 10,000 inhabitants. The municipality is located about 10.5 kilometers south of Forlì and about 13.5 kilometers west of Cesena on the north-eastern foothills of the Tosco-Emilian Apennines. The Bidente and the Rungo flow through the municipality. Neighboring municipalities are Bertinoro, Cesena, Civitella di Romagna, Forlì and Predappio.
But now have fun with the excursion to the Rocca di Meldola.

Forli-Cesena-Italy????????/Emilia-Romagna/4K/HD/Drone/DJI/Maluphotograohy16/Cinematic/Aerial-Shots/

Forlì is the capital of the Italian province of Forlì-Cesena in the Emilia-Romagna region in northern Italy with around 118,000 inhabitants. Forlì is located on the eastern foothills of the Apennines on the right bank of the Montone river. About 30 km north-west is the famous Italian racetrack of Imola. Ravenna is around 25 km north-east. In the city center, medieval architecture mixes with buildings of Italian rationalism. In the city, which is still partially walled, there are still a few historical buildings around the arcaded Piazza Aurelio Saffi. Forlì was founded in the 2nd century BC. Founded by the Romans under the name Forum Livii at the crossing of the consular road with the road to Tuscany. In the historic center you can see the two main axes of Roman origin, which split into four main streets (Corso Mazzini, Corso Garibaldi, Corso Diaz and Corso della Repubblica) that converge in Piazza A. Saffi.
This is lined with some of the most representative buildings from the different eras of the city:

the Romanesque Basilica of San Mercuriale with its imposing original 12th-century campanile
the Palazzo Comunale, the 14th-century town hall that has been remodeled several times, with the Torre Civica (clock tower)

Sights include:
the abbey church of San Mercuriale with the 75 m high campanile from 1180
the Palazzo del Podestà, built in 1459

Bologna (source Wikipedia):

Bologna is a city in and the capital of the Emilia-Romagna region in Northern Italy, of which it is also its largest. It is the seventh most populous city in Italy with about 400’000 inhabitants and 150 different nationalities. Its metropolitan area is home to more than 1’000’000 people. It is known as the Fat City for its rich cuisine, and the Red City for its Spanish-style red tiled rooftops and, more recently, its leftist politics. It is also called the Learned City because it is home to the oldest university in the world.

Originally Etruscan, the city has been an important urban center for centuries, first under the Etruscans (who called it Felsina), then under the Celts as Bona, later under the Romans (Bonōnia), then again in the Middle Ages, as a free municipality and later signoria, when it was among the largest European cities by population. Famous for its towers, churches and lengthy porticoes, Bologna has a well-preserved historical center, thanks to a careful restoration and conservation policy which began at the end of the 1970s. Home to the oldest university in continuous operation, the University of Bologna, established in AD 1088, the city has a large student population that gives it a cosmopolitan character. In 2000 it was declared European capital of culture and in 2006, a UNESCO City of Music and became part of the Creative Cities Network. In 2021 UNESCO recognized the lengthy porticoes of the city as a World Heritage Site.

Bologna is an important agricultural, industrial, financial and transport hub, where many large mechanical, electronic and food companies have their headquarters as well as one of the largest permanent trade fairs in Europe. According to the most recent data gathered by the European Regional Economic Growth Index (E-REGI) of 2009, Bologna is the first Italian city and the 47th European city in terms of its economic growth rate.

The cityscape is further enriched by its elegant and extensive porticoes, for which the city is famous. In total, there are some 38 kilometers (24 miles) of porticoes in the city's historical center (over 45 km (28 mi) in the city proper), which make it possible to walk for long distances sheltered from the elements.

A walk in the Northern Italian countryside

On a rainy day (19th May) I had at last the chance to take a stroll in the hills and dales of Romagna Toscana, in Northern Italy, the first trip after lockdown. This was shot in Castagnolo, a rural area near the medieval town of Cusercoli in the valley of the Bidente river (province of Forlì-Cesena).
This is a mountainous area, south of the hills of Bertinoro and Meldola, on a beautiful road that leads into the Foreste Casentinesi, the sombre forests that separate Romagna from Tuscany.
The area is known as Romagna Toscana because, although culturally and geographically Romagnol, it has been ruled for a long time by Florence during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
I was so happy to be able to go on a trip to these places at last. It's lovely to see the forests and mountains, the vineyards and valleys, the cypresses and the ancient rural buildings, the songbirds and the running hares.

Bertinoro | Italy Without Comment #06

A perfectly preserved medieval village tied to its generous land with its wine (among which “Albana” stands out) and good food culture, Bertinoro is also the capital of hospitality for its century-old tradition of welcoming tourists; on weekends, many italians with their families come here to eat. Bertinoro is located in a panoramic position on the slopes of the hill of Monte Maggio, dominating the Via Emilia road between Cesena and Forlì.
