Barisal, officially known as Barishal. Bengali: বরিশাল Bengali Pron: [boɾiʃal]) is a major city that lies on the bank of Kirtankhola river in south-central Bangladesh. It is the largest city and the administrative headquarter of both Barisal district and Barisal Division. It is one of the oldest municipalities and river ports of the country. Barisal municipality was established in the year 1876 during the British Raj and upgraded to City Corporation on 25 July 2002. The city consists of 30 wards and 50 mahallas with a population of 328,278 according to the 2011 national census. The area of the city is 58 km².

এখানে ইতিহাসের সাক্ষী হয়ে দাড়িয়ে আছে এক ঐতিহ্যবাহী জমিদার বাড়ি । যা আনুমানিক ১৭০০ শতাব্দীতে প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়েছিল। এই জমিদার বাড়ির বংশের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা ছিলেন সুবেদা হানিফ। ইনি ভারতীয় বংশধর ছিলেন না। ইনার পূর্ব পুরুষরা ছিলেন পারস্যের। সুবেদার হানিফ সৈনিক পদে চাকরি করতেন। এই মেহেন্দিগঞ্জ উপজেলায় তখন ওলন্দাজ দস্যু দল, মগ ও ফিরিঙ্গিদের অত্যাচারে জর্জরিত ছিল। যা সাধারণ মানুষকে অতিষ্ঠ করে তোলে। তখন সুবেদার হানিফের উপর দ্বায়িত্ব আসে এদেরকে প্রতিহিত করার। তখন তিনি শক্ত হাতে তাদেরকে দমন করেন এবং এখানে বসতি স্থাপন করেন। পরবর্তীতে তার বংশধররা এখানকার জমিদার হন। এইভাবেই এই জমিদার বাড়িটি প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়।

Ulania Zamindar Bari A chowdhury house is located in Ulania village of Mehendiganj upazila under Barisal district of Barisal division of Bangladesh which is known as zamindar bari. Ulania Zamindar House Chowdhury house General information type residence location Mehendiganj Upazila address Ulania village the city Mehendiganj Upazila, Barisal District the country Bangladesh has been opened In the 1700s Proprietor Subeda Hanif Technical details substance Bricks, bricks and rods Edit history One of the few villages in Mehendiganj upazila is Ulania village. A traditional zamindar house stands here as a witness of history. Which was established around 1700 century. Subeda Hanif was the founder of this zamindar family. He was not of Indian descent. Her ancestors were from Persia. Subedar Hanif served as a soldier. This Mehendiganj upazila was plagued by Dutch bandits, Mogs and Firingis. Which makes common people hungry. Then it is the responsibility of Subedar Hanif to represent them. Then he suppressed them with a strong hand and settled here. Later his descendants became the zamindars here. This is how this zamindar house was established. (Ulania Zaminder Bari_0 Ulania village of Mehendiganj upazila of Barisal district has dilapidated Chowdhury house which is known as zamindar house. Subadar Hanif, the founder of the Ulania zamindar dynasty, was not an Indian Muslim. His fifth eldest son Sheikh Mohammad Asad Ali came to India from distant Persia in search of fortune. He settled first in Ayodhya and later in Murshidabad. Mohammad Hanif worked in the military department. Later he completely eradicated the Dutch bandits, Mog and Firingi from the sea coast of Bakerganj district. The place which was turned into an empty forest by the evil bandits of demonic nature, slowly became populated again under the supervision of Mohammad Hanif. As a result of this heroic act of Subadar Hanif, his next descendant became the zamindar of this land.
