Route Description
The Ljubljanica River is one of the most special bodies of water in Slovenia, which is supplied with many karst influent streams. It vanishes into the ground and comes to the surface many times along its long and varied course, each time with a different name. It springs up in the foothills of Mount Snežnik as the Trbuhovca Stream, then later as the Obrh Stream, the Stržen Stream, the Rak Stream, the Pivka and Unica rivers, until it rises to the surface for the final time near Vrhnika as the Ljubljanica River. Its springs are divided into three major groups known as Močilnik, Retovje and Bistra. In addition, there are many other smaller springs, wells and affluents in this area.

Močilnik is a limestone steephead valley, out of which waters from the Big Močilnik Spring (Veliki Močilnik) and the Little Močilnik Spring (Mali Močilnik) flow into the Little Ljubljanica River (Mala Ljubljanica). The Big Močilnik Spring is located at the foot of the Devil’s Cliffs (Hudičeve skale), which are 40 meters (131.2 feet) high. According to Greek mythology, Greek heroes – Jason and the Argonauts – ended their sail along Ljubljanica right here. They disassembled their ship and carried it on their shoulders to the Adriatic Sea. As a memorial to their journey, Vrhnika’s emblem is an image of the ship Argo, and locals and visitors remember them every year during the Argonaut Days Festival.
In the Retovje Valley, slightly hidden in the wooded foothills of Raskovec Hill and the Ljubljana Peak, lies the spring of Big Ljubljanica Stream (Velika Ljubljanica), which joins the Little Ljubljanica Stream (Mala Ljubljanica) from Močilnik after about 1 km (0.10 miles) in the village of Verd. From here on, the river is called Ljubljanica. There are many little springs in the valley: ‘Pod skalco’, ‘Pod orehom’, ‘Malo okence’ and ‘Veliko okence’. The springs of the Big Ljubljanica Stream produce the greatest volume of water of all the Ljubljanica springs and in the 19th century more than 10 water powered sawmills were located here.
Bistra Springs can be found at the foot of a steep, tectonically shaped karst hillside halfway between the towns of Vrhnika and Borovnica. Their streams form the Bistra River about 400 meters (437 yards) away. Their defensive position played a key role for the protection of the Bistra Monastery. Springs’ waters come from the Cerknica Karst Field, the Rakov Škocjan Park and the Planina Karst Field. In the past, the water powered mills and other equipment at the monastery and the Bistra Castle. The flow of water was controlled by sluice gates close to the mills and sawmills.
Another natural wonder among the Ljubljanica Springs is the Lintvern Spring, the source of the Bela Stream. Lintvern is a natural monument and a karst phenomenon. Its water flow is not constant; sometimes the water gushes out with great force but at times the spring completely dries up. The Slovenian polymath Johann Weikhard von Valvasor wrote (1689) that the Lintvern Spring occasionally spews out baby dragons. These ‘dragons’, off course, were probably human fish offspring.

DONIT TESNIT, d.o.o является одним из ведущих производителей уплотнительных пластин, уплотнений и поставщиком решений в области уплотнения в Европе. Река Сава в Медводе также является местом расположения Медводской гидроэлектростанции. Гидроэлектростанция была построена частично с использованием принудительного труда католических священников, удерживаемых в качестве политических заключенных после Второй мировой войны.
Достопримечательности рядом: Збильско озеро и остатки замка Смледник с великолепным обзором на многие километры и видом в хорошую погоду на Альпы и Шмарно горо.

Medvode so mesto in središče občine Medvode. Kraj je nastal na sotočju Sore in Save. Po tem, da je »med vodama«, je tudi dobil svoje ime. Skoznje poteka tudi pomembna prometna cesta, ki povezuje Gorenjsko in Ljubljano. Po njej so Medvode vsakodnevno povezane z Ljubljano z mestnimi avtobusnimi linijami. Območje sedanjega naselja je bili poseljeno že v prazgodovini, kar dokazuje najdba bronaste sekire pri gradnji hidroelektrarne.
Današnje Medvode so se pričele razvijati, ko je cesar Friderik III. dovolil leta 1491 zgraditi most ob sotočju Save in Sore. Leta 1750 je imel kraj 14 hiš in 82 prebivalcev. Zaradi pomembnega cestnega križišča je bila v prvi polovici 19. stoletja tu mitnica. Mitnica je bila v Medvodah od izgradnje mostu, ki so ga zgradili meščani Kranja in tudi pobirali mostnino. Sredi 19. stoletja so mitnico ukinili.
Merija (občina) Medvode je začela voditi civilne matične knjige med prvimi, saj se tekoči vpisi pojavijo že septembra 1812. Leta 1862 so dobile Medvode pošto, železniško postajo pa leta 1870, ko se je decembra 1870 odprla proga Ljubljana-Trbiž.
Dvorec Goričane (nemško Gortschach) je baročni dvorec, ki se nahaja v Goričanah (občina Medvode). Po propadu gradu Goričane, ki je bil v lasti ljubljanskih škofov, se je tedanji škof Oton Buckheimski odločil za gradnjo nove zgradbe. Gradnja se je pričela leta 1631 in končala leta 1634; pri gradnji so uporabili razvaline starega gradu. V lasti ljubljanske škofije je ostal do konca druge svetovne vojne, ko so dvorec nacionalizirali. Sprva so bila v dvorcu stanovanja, nakar pa so ga leta 1962 pričeli obnavljati za muzejske namene.
Smlednik je naselje v Občini Medvode. Nahaja se ob regionalni cesti Škofja Loka - Kamnik, v bližini Zbiljskega jezera. Nad Smlednikom stojijo od daleč vidne razvaline gradu, imenovanega Stari grad. Naselje je ob delavnikih z Ljubljano preko Medvod povezano z rednimi avtobusnimi linijami.
Zbilje (v starejših virih tudi Svilje, nemščina: Swile) je naselje v občini Medvode na Gorenjskem. Naselje leži na akumulacijskem jezeru Zbilje, ki je nastalo leta 1954 z izgradnjo hidroelektrarne Medvode. Jezero je priljubljena turistična destinacija.
Zbilje so v pisnih virih potrdili leta 1311 kot Villach. Izvor imena ni jasen. V preteklosti je bilo nemško ime Swile. Naselje je prvotno stalo 1 km severno od sedanjega mesta, na desni strani ceste proti Podreči. V nekem trenutku je staro naselje zgorelo in vaščani so se preselili na sedanjo lokacijo, kjer so zgradili svoje hiše.

Danilo is a restaurant with tradition run today by the third generation of the Čarman family. It is located in Reteče between Medvode and Škofja Loka.
The culinary story began with the grandparents of Nina and Gašper Čarman, the brother and sister who currently run the restaurant. The grandparents were succeeded by Vesna and Dušan who further built the restaurant’s reputation and good name.

The lake of Zbiljsko jezero is an artificial lake created in 1953, when the Sava river was dammed to provide water for the hydroelectric power station in the town of Medvode. Apart from being a tourist attraction, the lake provides an important habitat for numerous bird species.
Next to Lake Zbilje there is a boat hire outlet. On the lake shore there are several cafés and a children's playground.
The village of Zbilje was first mentioned in 1311. Its Church of St. John the Baptist (Cerkev sv. Janeza Krstnika) has since it was built (1883-1884) been visited by pilgrims. Its main altar, made in 1665, originates from the church which previously stood on the site of the present church.
By the bridge over the Lake of Zbiljsko jezero – Na Brodu (on a Ford) – stands the sign of Šimenčkovo znamenje.
The Way of the Cross (Kalvarija) from 1772 leads to the nearby hill (515 m), where the ruins of the old castle of Smlednik lie. 14 chapels are set along the Way.
