Overall, the cheapest cities to live in Kentucky are small towns with affordable housing and limited job opportunities. Many of these cities are located near major metropolitan areas, such as Cincinnati, Ohio and Nashville, Tennessee, which can provide residents with access to more job opportunities and amenities. However, these cities also tend to have higher crime rates.

When choosing a place to live in Kentucky, it is important to consider your individual needs and preferences. If you are looking for a low cost of living, a small-town atmosphere, and proximity to a major metropolitan area, then one of the cities on this list may be a good option for you. However, it is important to be aware of the potential drawbacks of living in a small town, such as limited job opportunities and higher crime rates.

Amtrak map USA: Understand America's train routes

Amtrak Track a Train tool:

So where exactly do Amtrak trains go in the United States? This video is an in-depth look at where Amtrak can take you, and how you can use Amtrak and its connecting services to get around America.

To get around America and travel between the cities on this map, sometimes it’s a single ride on one train and sometimes it isn’t. Most importantly, there’s no coast-to-coast service. So if you want to travel from, say, New York to Los Angeles, you’ll have to transfer. Most transfers between the east and the west part of the country are done in Chicago, which is a major Amtrak hub. You can also transfer in New Orleans.

The best way to figure out exactly how to get from place to place on Amtrak is to let them decide. When you buy tickets on the Amtrak website, you just put in your starting and ending points and it will give you whatever options there are. Often there aren’t really as many options as you’d think, assuming you want as few transfers as possible. For example, despite all the Amtrak lines in the northeast, there’s only one direct route between Boston and Chicago, and only two between New York and Chicago.

Speaking of the northeast, this is arguably the best-served area of the United States. Compared to other parts of the country, quite a few shorter and more specialized routes exist here. So you can take the Keystone Service between New York and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; or the Pennsylvanian between New York and Pittsburgh. The Downeaster goes between Boston and Brunswick, Maine. From New York, the Adirondack and Maple Leaf take you to Montreal and Toronto, respectively. So, if you’re traveling around the northeast on Amtrak, you’re fairly well covered.

What if you want to go from Washington DC to Denver? In this case you’ll need two trains, either the Cardinal or the Capitol Limited to Chicago, and then the California Zephyr to Denver.

Now, while there are a lot of major and some not-so-major cities on this map, and thus ways to travel between them on Amtrak, there are obviously some gaps. We already saw how Amtrak doesn’t even enter Wyoming or South Dakota at all, and other states like New Hampshire, Tennessee, and Delaware just barely. And what about major destinations Amtrak *does* go, like Atlanta? Only one route passes through Atlanta, the Crescent. That means there’s no easy way to get between Atlanta and… Chicago, or Florida, or Nashville. New Orleans and Washington DC, those are pretty much your only options from Atlanta. In fact Amtrak doesn’t go anywhere near Nashville. Nor does it go to Phoenix, or Las Vegas, or Boise or Twin Falls, or Augusta Maine. And on and on.

The good news is that Amtrak partners with various transportation services, usually buses, around the country to provide access to many more destinations. This map, which is on the Amtrak website, shows these connecting routes in green. Amtrak calls them Thruway services. This is how you can fill in a lot of the gaps in Amtrak’s main train routes, and get to Las Vegas, or to Phoenix, or Montgomery Alabama, or Sarasota, or Nashville, or way up through Wisconsin and Michigan. This is how you explore more of Oregon and Colorado, and Kentucky and Ohio… and yes, how you can use Amtrak to move around the great state of Wyoming.

See you on the rails!

Famous Graves - Rosemary Clooney and Family's Final Resting Places in Maysville, Kentucky.

Rosemary Clooney was born in Maysville, Kentucky, the daughter of Marie Frances (née Guilfoyle) and Andrew Joseph Clooney. Today, we visit not only the burial place of Rosemary, but also that of her parents, uncle and grandparents, as well as the cenotaph for her sister and former singer partner, Betty Clooney Campo. Later, we locate the Ohio resting place of their father, Andrew Joseph Clooney.

The Clooney family lived in Cincinnati in the early 1940s, where the Rosemary and her sister Betty won a spot on Cincinnati's WLW Radio Station as singers.

Rosemary Clooney went on to become a famous singer, actress and dancer. She had a big hit in the 1950s with the song Come On-a My House, followed by Botch-a-Me, Mambo Italiano, Tenderly, Half as Much, Hey There and This Ole House.

Once Rosemary left for New York, her sister, Betty returned Cincinnati and became a television pioneer in her own right on the city's first station, WLWT.

Rosemary is most famous for starring, along with Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, and Vera-Ellen, in the movie White Christmas. She went on to star in her own television variety show called, The Rosemary Clooney Show and later in life was a successful jazz vocalist. In 1995, Clooney guest-starred on the TV show, ER (starring her nephew, George Clooney) and was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series. She continued recording until her death in 2002.

Betty Clooney died of an aneurism in 1976. Her family formed the Betty Clooney Foundation for Persons with Brain Injury in her honor.

Simon Kenton Festival, Old Washington, Maysville, Kentucky

Always the third weekend of September.

This annual festival was started in Old Washington to honor Simon Kenton, who through historical accounts has been named the Father of Mason County.

Nearly everything about this quality event creates the illusion of time travel to the late 1700’s, early 1800’s. Our two-day historical adventure will begin with the Kenton Kin, Simon Kenton, Daniel Boone and other heroes of the frontier marching into the center of Old Washington where they are formally welcomed at the Opening Ceremonies. After the American flag is raised, and the last echo of the gun salute has finished, visitors are enticed to explore over 180 different booths. Antiques and unique crafts from all over the country are nestled along the vast main street of this historic village.
Visitors to the Simon Kenton Festival will have a hard time deciding what to do first. A wagon ride through the festival is the perfect way to get a quick overview of the wide variety of attractions!
Explore the unique shops that Old Washington has to offer. You are sure to find special treasures. Pottery, herbs, dried flowers, handmade soaps, lace, linen, jewelry, books, lanterns, antiques and much more!
Entertainment can be found throughout the festival. The beautiful voice of Jennifer Rose Escobar and her family have captivated visitors over the years. Royal Blue Entertainment brings light comedy as they fill the streets with their Bluegrass music. Old Time musicians will be set up in various locations throughout the event.
There is even a bigger variety of food available this year - so do come hungry to the festival! We are sure there is something to delight even the pickiest eaters.
At various times during the day, Daniel Boone, Simon Kenton, and the Chief of the Shawnee Tribe will meet at the Old Church Museum, located in the middle of the festival, to tell about the life and times of our beloved pioneer heroes. Professional actors will portray each of the visiting frontier heroes. Simon Kenton will be portrayed by Mel Hankla, and Daniel Boone will be portrayed by Mark Sage. Both men have been recognized across the country for the accuracy of their performance. Bob Anderson, as descendant member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition will portray his ancestor Private Shannon. Having a photo taken with at least one of these frontier heroes will be a must!
But the fun doesn’t stop there! Take your children to the lawn behind the Harriet Beecher Stowe Museum and witness first hand pioneer life in a primitive encampment. Want to test your skills with a bow or tomahawk? Now’s your chance, it’s all right here at the Simon Kenton Festival.
You’re not done yet! Sneak into any one of our wonderful museums. For a more personal experience, have one of our costumed tour guides escort you through your historical adventure. See where Harriet Beecher Stowe stayed, or where Albert Sidney Johnston was born, explore the Paxton house and Inn plus much more!
You are guaranteed to walk away with historical knowledge, a treasured keepsake and memories that will last a lifetime.
