In this video we are heading directly to Miyagi Prefecture from Narita Airport by overnight bus. On the first day we'll explore the Shiogama area, known for it's fish market and shrine. Then take a pleasant cruise through Matsushima Bay past the many pine covered islands that dot the bay. Lastly we'll explore the quaint port town of Matsushima.
On day two we head to the big city of Sendai where we ride the Loople Sendai bus to many famous spots including Zuihoden and Aoba Castle. We end the day and trip walking through the large shopping arcade which leads back to Sendai Station.

Beautiful MATSUSHIMA BAY: One of Japan's Top 3 Scenic Views
Matsushima is one of the top 3 3 scenic views in Japan, with over 260 tiny islands. Take a look around Matsushima with me, and a boat trip around the bay.
Matsushima is a small seaside town in Japan, only half an hour on the train from Sendai. Sendai is about 1 hour 45 minutes from Tokyo on the shinkansen (bullet train), so it's quite easy to get to. It's known for seafood, and there are beautiful Japanese temples and shrines. In Matsushima bay there are hundreds of tiny islands. It's really picturesque! We took a cruise around the bay, and then went across the bridge to Godaido Temple. Next time we'll be exploring Fukuurijima Island and Entsuin Temple.

1 Day Sendai Guide | Travel Tips from a Local! | What to Do in Sendai in One Day?
Sendai... the City of Trees, Date Masamune, Gyutan and Zunda! Sendai is located in Miyagi Prefecture and it is the biggest city in the Tohoku Region (Northeast Japan) with roughly 1 million citizens. I spent one year in Sendai as an exchange student at Tohoku University and let me guide you to my favorite places in Sendai!

Matsushima is famous for its bay and it is one of the three most scenic views of Japan. The beauty of the bay changes according to the season. So you can visit this place at any time of the year.
The best way to enjoy this incredible natural beauty is from the water. So we are taking the sightseeing cruise. The mystical landscape is said to resemble paradise.

You can see the spectacular view of Ko-mon-e-jima.
Kanejima
Due to the oval shaped holes this island is called Kane-jima. When the waves hit the cave, a sound similar to a bell echoes. That’s why it’s known as Bell island.
Niōjima
Look at this natural rock formation. Nio-ji-ma is a masterpiece created by erosion of sea waves. its shape represents a strange appearance on the sea like Nio.

Naruko Gorge is one of the most renowned autumn colors typically peaking mid-October through early November. A bouquet of color envelops the hillsides of the winding gorge. Unfortunately, due to damage caused by the 2011 earthquake, the full length of the gorge walking trail is no longer open. Visitors can still enjoy the iconic view of the bridge and gorge
from the rest house and walk a shortened section of the gorge walking trail though. After appreciating the scenery, head to one of the nearby communities such as Naruko Onsen, Higashi-Naruko , or Onikobe to enjoy their distinctive onsen hot springs.
Naruko Gorge is easily one of the top autumn spots for one to enjoy viewing autumn leaves in Tohoku, and it's surrounded with plenty of natural hot springs in the Naruko Onsen Village. The gorge is located in the mountainous region of Osaki City in Miyagi Prefecture, slightly further up north from Sendai City.
= Katanuma is a Caldera lake that was formed by a volcanic eruption 1,200 years ago. The water of the lake is very strongly acidic from a worldwide perspective. Its hydrogen ion concentration (ph) even reaches 2.4. As a result, you will not find even a single fish lurking in Katanuma. The surface of the lake changes colors depending on the weather at that time -sky blue, deep blue and emerald green. This produces a fantastic atmosphere.

Travelling to Matsushima on the Tohoku shinkansen (bullet train), plus a room tour of the fanciest Japanese hotel I've stayed in: the Matsushima Ichinobo Hotel.
Join me on a travelling day, from Sapporo in Hokkaido on the Super Hokuto Limited Express to Hakodate, then the Tohoku shinkansen to Sendai and finally a local train to Matsushima. It's a 6 hour journey! The Hayabusa is the fastest bullet train in Japan, going through Tohoku in north Japan. Then a room tour of the Matsushima Ichinobo Hotel, a Japanese hotel with an onsen (hot spring bath) in a beautiful coastal town.
